In the past few months, I've written extensively about Windows 7, often focusing on a specific set of features or technologies. Inevitably, someone in the Talkback section says I'm dodging the most important question: Is there a single killer feature in Windows 7 that justifies an upgrade, especially for someone who is happy with Windows XP and has chosen to avoid Windows Vista?
The obvious, if oversimplified answer, is "No." For most mainstream business and home uses, there's no killer feature in Windows 7. You can rip an MP3 file, edit a Word document, browse the web, read a PDF file, and probably do just about any other common , especially common business tasks, with any hardware and any OS from the 21st Century.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.

Spiders: "We're going to cut straight to the chase so you're not left wondering: After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated.
What does it mean? This means the company as a whole no longer exists. We'll cease our functions immediately. The planned DLC will release via Nacon, and then-- well, that's it.
We're sorry that it's come to this and would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.
If you have any questions or run into issues with your games, please contact Nacon directly as we'll no longer be able to reply."
There wasn't a reason to update to XP when it first came out, either. Windows 98 didn't suddenly stop running the same programs you used to run and there was quite a large and vocal number of people who hated it, but now look at it.
I don't think Windows 7 was intended to be anything revolutionary, it's simply evolutionary. It'll do the same things Vista and XP does, except it does them a bit better, in many cases it'll even do them faster if you have a modern machine (As opposed to Vista, which mainly did them about the same as XP if you had a modern machine - and note, I was using Vista for months before I switched to the W7 beta).
Unless you have a dire need to be on the forefront of technology, I don't think you have any REAL need to upgrade at all, but when you go out and build or buy a new machine, it'll be a very welcome addition.
Sorry don't mean to be a pessimist.
Its always newer is always better. That is exactly what microsoft wants you think because then they make money, but can I blame them? No. They are in the business of doing just that, making money.
I have been a linux user for 10 years and though I would not give the average user linux as their desktop, it gets closer and closer to being to that point. One day OS features will become stagnant to a degree and Linux or some other free os will take a huge chuck out of MS.
why dont they just release a new service pack for xp and charge for it! this is a brilliant scam since people will assume its there lovable xp and spend there money on it!
for the other post, i think your wrong, if newer is better how come they didn't just fix vista? why did they move on to windows 7
Even MS realized how badly Vista was received and how poor it's image is. So they roll out winOs 7 so they can say it's an all new singing and dancing winOs.
It's easier for them to put out what Vista should have been as winOs 7 now, than trying to rescue the Vista name...
Most of the innovations have come from Mac and Linux side. They focus too much on the looks instead of usability and yet no windows looks even nearly as good as linux small tweaking.
Windows 7 however seems to improve a lot from vista(performance vice) which is good. But the damage is already done. They really should learn from the sentence "Do not Fix whats not broke" (oslt)
I have been using ubuntu for a while now, and have seen so many neat features that really should be in every system.
But as for now, the ppl who dont want to learn new OS the windows 7 might be the most "familiar" os out there.
