Monster Hunter Wilds Allegedly Lacks Performance Mode on PS5, Devs Testing PS5 Pro Support

Monster Hunter Wilds is shaping up to be a demanding title based on its system requirements for PC, and it seems even consoles like the PS5 might face challenges running the game smoothly.

Well, the "equivalent" GPU for the base PS5 is comparable to something between the minimum and recommended PC requirements—more toward the "recommended." It targets 720p/30fps and 1080p/60fps with Frame Generation, respectively. And, yes, the Series S "equivalent" GPU is technically below the minimum requirements.

Obviously, this is not a 1:1 comparison, but it does illustrate how demanding this game is.

I wanna see if the PS5 Pro will make a difference with PSSR

Vits573d ago

Of course it will make a difference. PSSR just like any tech of that nature is a cheat, it will likely hurt the latency but console gamers don't care about that, but the displaying resolution will be bumped up.

LucasRuinedChildhood573d ago (Edited 573d ago )

@Vits

The PS5 Pro is more powerful than the PS5 - you can use PSSR without increasing latency compared to the base PS5. Do you not use DLSS or FSR on PC?

Giga_Gaia573d ago (Edited 573d ago )

No performance mode = no buy, Capcom have become seriously incompetent with their last few releases. With how bad this and Dragon Dogma 2 look, there is no reason why there isn't a 60fps mode, especially when more visually intensive games do it (and open world ones as well).

TOTSUKO573d ago (Edited 573d ago )

Capcom is just either rigid or lazy sticking with the RE engine. The engine has a very low gpu utilization it’s baffling even on PC. Their games are like all CPU lmao

Flewid638572d ago

Why are games that look worse than games from the past requiring more resources?

deadfrag572d ago (Edited 572d ago )

We have a big problem ...developers like Capcom are using upscalers like DLSS.,FSR ...the wrong way they use them to brute force the performance and with that they are lacking on optimizations for the systems. When we see a developer like Capcom using frame generation to achieve 1080P@60fps some thing is wrong.Capcom is putting the minimum work on the game and using tricks like upscalers to release the game the Faster they can.

Tested: PS5 Pro's Upgraded PSSR Put Through Its Paces On Four Top-Tier Games

DF: "We had the chance to check out five games at Sony's London HQ several weeks ago. Today, we're going to talk about Silent Hill f, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, Alan Wake 2 is a game we've tested most intensely in the past, and we'll report back on that one soon in a standalone piece."

"Cyberpunk 2077 will also receive a patch in the coming weeks to support the new PSSR"
This is great news I cant wait

The_Hooligan39d ago

I am curious to see how the toggle will make older games run/look.

For example: Black Myth Wukong is pro enhanced but if the developer doesn't tweak the game themselves, would the PSSR 2 make the game better or not?

Muigi39d ago

Yeah Jedi Survivor is the first game I’m testing when I get home.

Neonridr39d ago

they did mention "if there are unexpected results then you can turn it off". So my guess is some games might look better but it might also introduce some visual issues with other titles. YMMV.

#Muigi

I want EA to patch the heck out of Jedi Survivor! I can’t even finish beating the game. I got a bug where I can’t even go into the cantina area, because the door won’t even open. I was playing this on the PS5 Pro and I can’t even make any more progress. I spend so much time completing quests, getting powers, upgrades, and I can’t even finish the game. This game needs more than PSSR 2.0 it needs to be fix.

fr0sty38d ago

Don't forget that "Pro Enhanced" does not automatically mean that the game uses PSSR. There are several games that run at higher resolutions, have better lighting, etc. on Pro, but they stick with checkerboard rendering like PS5 base does, or use other upscaling techniques. Only games that used the original PSSR get the boost by setting that toggle to on.

What a heck of a update and it would appear that Sony just announced FSR 4 coming to RDNA 3 with the latest model. (The last model is coming to FDR 4 but it does sound like an RDNA 3 announce could be imminent.)

I'm intrigued to buy the Pro but the recent news about Sony not delaying the PS6 has me thinking about that one too. I was more than happy if the PS6 got delayed to several more years and thenI will buy the PS5 Pro for now but IF it a still come next year, it's better just waiting for that. If only there are confirmed info about the PS6 already

Zeke6838d ago

PS6 will come 2028 (earliest). Next year we might see that rumoured handheld but that will be it.

S2Killinit38d ago

I think you still got plenty left before next gen.

Smellsforfree39d ago

Good to finally see. PSSR and the Pro has been a mixed bag since launch.

jznrpg39d ago

Some of the games in my backlog are getting updates which is really nice. When I bought the Pro I was sure that it would improve over time like DLSS and FSR and here we are.

Aloymetal39d ago

I don't have any of those games which are getting the PSSR2 treatment as of right now but yea, this is great news nonetheless especially for those of us with the PRO. Can't wait!

MrNinosan38d ago

You should get at least FFVII Rebirth then

Rebirth was already one of the best implementations this should be great
