Microsoft Releases MED-V Beta

PCEverything writes: Microsoft has released another beta that runs a legacy program which essentially allows you to run Windows XP and 2000 apps on Vista without the need of migration or testing. The beta, called MED-V, creates a virtual PC of the legacy version of Windows that you would like inside Vista. The whole project is said to be completed by at least second quarter.

Yeah, I only wish they had come out with this sooner.

Speed-Racer6323d ago

I wish they could allow it to do other progs, like Linux...but thats not gonna happen

TaylorFlatt6323d ago

I know your pain, however they should probably work on something to port stuff from Vista/XP to Windows 7 in the future. Maybe, if it is going to be possible, much sooner than years after it is released.

I know Linux can do win32 applications via WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator) but as far as Windows running Linux apps...yah through that out the window. Good thing throw is that if a Linux app gets really popular it gets ported over to Windows, or there is a viable alternative.

TaylorFlatt6323d ago

Oh wow, that is interesting, I had no idea. I will have to have a look at that.

Nater6323d ago

Pretty cool. Let's hope it works well.

Good it's about time. I hate that they try to get me to buy a new OS every few years when the one I have is working just fine. Line the way their new .docx extension doesn't integrate with legacy MS Word!

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing14d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit14d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing14d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9213d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
