How about you guys go on X and see some news for yourselfs. Aparently the game did not get much attention but its sold out by now in japan because people heard about it via reviews and word of mouth. So the initial shipment was kinda low but its going up now. So yeah these articles are really bad.

Astro Bot has legs. It’s a name no one is aware of, but games like this sell consistently for a long period of time because of word of mouth, instead of just 10mil in sales first week it’ll do it but in a larger span of time.

So #2 and only sony game on the list is bad now? And I think that PS5 numbers is understandable because people bought it before the price cut.

Funny thing to say when PlayStation sells mostly digital copies. Pushasquare has no clue what Sony's digital sales numbers are.

I would bet more than most who bought the game got it digitally.

Who's is buying physical media, that's like saying music sales are low cause CD sales are down or movies are in trouble cause dvd sales are lo. This is the digital age, get used to it, it's here to stay

They should do a holiday sale . Buy any PS5 sku and get a copy of Astro Bot for like 20 dollars . I am definitely going to buy a copy of Astro Bot when I finally upgrade from my PS4 in the future.

I gotta tell ya, I'm not mad that the PS5 sales have dropped in Japan after the price hike. Consumers have more power than they like to think. Supply and Demand rules are still in play. If the supply is there but demand drops off, prices tend to get cheaper in order to move more units.

I reckon it'll sell well but it'll be a bit of a slow burner, during the holidays with a bit of a price cut and even bundled in with consoles, I reckon it will sell more then than it does now.

This is disappointing to hear. Astro bot needs to be the best selling game of 2024. I am 16 hours in and almost near the end of the game. I plan on getting the platinum and have gold flags on all the stages I have beaten so far.

It is fun and there is nostalgia all around. It even made me remember franchises that are long forgotten. There is a part where one of the bots passed a toy to astro and a wave of nostalgia hit me so hard it nearly brought a grown man to tears. If you know you know.

People better put their money where their mouth is, when Japan Studio closed down. Support this game if you want to see more of these type of games. It's titles like this, is what defines PlayStation.

The reason the PS5 didn't sell as many consoles is because they're literally sold out in most stores. Looking at Amazon, they only have consoles being sold by individual, not Amazon themselves.

I did my part. I got the controller. I went out and got a physical copy and I had a blast playing this fantastic game.

It sold out physically on Japanese Amazon. They might have just not made that many to sell. That's kinda how it is over there. Hard to say for sure.

Not a day one for me. The price of games in the UK (£70 = $90), no wonder game sales are low this gen.

To the people who wonder why Astrobot sales badly:

Cause the industry killed the genre. Look around. Everything is in shitty infantile style, "cute and charming". While that works great for women and kids, it also pushes away male gamers who don't happen to like such things. And that's more than half. So we get Astrobot, a brilliant game that has very good design and design choice (notice no fancy lighting, but good res, AA and stable framerate!) so a thing every core gamer would really appreciate.

But.. 3/4 of those potential buyers are not even interested in platform games nowadays.
Industry tought them to stay away from those games as barely anything at 9/10 quality was released in past 15 years. And out of that, which was released, 99% is cringy infantile crap.
I loved platform games genre since the 1980s and it will forever remain my favorite.
But I just can't play Mario, Kirby, Yoshi. For the same reason I will probably need to disable sound when playing Astrobot. The sound when the character makes a jump is simply so bad, I literally cringe. Look how it looks. That robot. Like an infant. There are hearts and "cute" poses when collecting other bots.
While this is a plus for women and fathers, not everyone likes this crap, seriously.

Look at The Lost Vikings. Look at Earthworm Jim, MDK. Look at Crash Bandicoot evil scientists's design. Those things were cool and funny.

Modern industry wants to convince everyone that platform games are for women and kids only.
And that's a huge mistake.
It also has a lot to do with tragedy of getting into dark age of blurred image. After CRT were phased out, maybe like 0,1% of gamers own displays capable of displaying clear motion. This DESTROYS one of the main strong sides of platform games - exploration and enjoying searching for stuff, be it stars, bolts, whatever. I tested that multiple times and the same game has fun factor at like 4/10 on blurry LCD while 8/10 on CRT.

Astrobot would be a much bigger sales hit if it had alternative "not cuty/charmy" mode.
But because it's cute, it can only resonate with people who are mainstream target. And those people won't see anything spectacular in Astrobot, cause they already are getting a lot of great games for themselves, like Mario Oddysee.

Look how Ratchet & Clank from 2002 differs from the remake. ALL that was changed was a move to the wrong direction. From funny and cool, to crap for kids and women.
Platform genre needs to be brought back to its rightful place among the best genres.
Astrobot surprised a lot of people. I see tons of comments like "wow, I didn't think a game like this can bring me so much fun from playing. I only play SP games for story, but this is just fun".

Astrobot is so good because it was not made by mediocre studios (sorry Toys for Bob, sorry Vicarious Vision, but you guys are nowhere near the level of genius once typical for games of this genre (Shiny, Naughty Dog, Insomiac, Naughty Dog again - in 1996-2004).
This genre needs more people like this. But I'm afraid it won't repair the PR damage it received over past 15 year, until many years from now. We need more brave publishers and devs, who won't be scared of making a AAA platformer (in terms of quality, not budget) with a style that's not instantly screaming "for kids only!"

PS. I am still angry at Sony for not letting them do a PSVR2 Astrobot. Those people who rule at Sony since 2019, are complete morons driving Playstation into the ground because they're clueless as hell.
