$699 is such a stupid move by Sony. This isn’t going to sell, it’s only targeting core gamers because most casuals won’t be dropping $700 plus tax on this. $599 should have been the sweet spot. Sony is becoming obnoxious like they did after 2 successful generations (PS1-2) but sadly this time there is no competition from Xbox to bring them down and give us the effort they put into the PS3 generation

However is this really worth 700 usd (800 euros) when you still have the option to play on performance mode with PS5 albeit at lower quality?

In addition they did not show any new games, only already released ones that run better.

So this is clearly for those who do not have a PS5 and dont mind spending 700usd on a new console (still cant believe its 800 euros in Europe).

It also faces the same issue with Xbox One X which was released without exclusive games showcasing its techincal prowess.

Can we add disc drive? Price is not a big deal but having disc drive capability makes the difference of me buying one or not.

This console generation continues to cement itself as the most pointless, most boring, most overpriced and most unimaginative. A mid gen refresh for mostly a bunch of last gen games, and a handful of current only gen games that never did anything that impressive in the first place. Priced at 700 dollars and even more as you hafto buy the optional disc drive that is also over priced lolz. That's 700 dollars plus the 80 dollar disc drive plus tax. You're better off investing in a PC at this point.

Hard pass for me. First Sony console I haven’t bought. Not giving in to this mid cycle refresh crap again. I did a day 1 with PS4 pro and while I don’t regret it this cripppling of consoles in order to resell another to you half way through the generation I don’t agree with. Already decided this a couple of weeks ago and managed to buy a brand new ROG TUF 4070Ti Super for £570. My PC is designed to be upgraded… my console is not!

My goodness… just watched it and was super interested to come on here to see what the general vibes are on this.

I was watching it think about how I was a little disappointed they were really only aggressively selling the potential mitigation of graphics modes, something in all honesty I’ve not been particularly upset by so far.

And then thinking about how much of a step up it looked going from HD to whatever version of 4k my pro served up last gen. I don’t don’t think this is that tbh, it’s just not enough for me this time. If I had much much more disposable cash then maybe, but ultimately I just don’t feel like I’ll be missing out on anything substantial enough to warrant it.

on a serious note, i wasn't a big fan of how they presented it. It felt like:
ps5 have 60 fps with raytracting
ps5pro but now with 60 fps and raytracing for real for real
Interested to see what it's gonna be capable of.

Several of us called it. Considering that this gen prices have gone up instead of down-it was easy to see and not be optimistic.

I think for people who don't have a ps5 it's great but here where I live we already pay $700 for the base ps5. So it's going to be crazy.

So, same old CPU thats in the 4-year-old PS5 (yeah yeah it might get a small boost clock but barely relevant), 45% jump in rasterization performance and 2-3x better raytracing, 1 TB increase to storage, PSSR (similar tech to DLSS thats been available since 2018), NO DISC DRIVE, for 700??? Are they smoking crack? and on top of that they increase controller price too?

For me personally, I bought a PS4. but did not upgrade to PS4 pro . Because I still did not.buy a PS5 yet , I am going to wait and a buy PS5 Pro . If I was going to buy a digital PS5 with a extra buy for 1TB SSD it would cost me around 520 US dollars. So I might as well spend a extra 180 bucks for the PS5 Pro. But if I already bought a PS5 , I probably would have not bought a PS5 Pro .

Better start saving for the PS6 now, because I have a feeling it will be €1000 when it comes out.

For me it depends on what they have to show for it. I expect another 10 years of ps5 life line for that to be reasonable. If a long list of exclusives aren't coming then it is a pointless upgrade...much better to wait for ps6 as it'll be bottle necked by the ps5 base.

As a Playstation/Sony fanboy, this was a huge bummer!
In Sweden, the PS5 Pro with disc drive will cost 12.000SEK, almost 1200USD.
That is double the price of PS5 disc version here in Sweden.

I have already promised my son to buy the Pro so he can take my PS5, but this is just insane, and proves what happens when the competition is slowly disappearing.

Will buy it either way, but I am really not happy bout this bullshit.

Unless the performance in game is substantially improved I don't know why anybody who bought the OG ps5 would want this. I'm primarily a pc gamer, but wanted to jump in with this pro model. At that price point I'd rather plunk down for a new video card and just upgrade my pc.

Just to add, no console hate here. I've used my ps4 pro to death. I need new controllers because their battery's are shot lol. I'm just not seeing a real value in an upgraded console without a disk drive that cost the same as a card that was the 3rd best of it's previous generation... which I already bought used for 450 nearly 2 years ago.

All this could have been avoided if Sony made the console more powerful at the start back in 2020. It would have cost more but there would be no need for another stopgap console, it would be PS5 then PS6 and that's it. Dumb asses. lol

I upgraded to the PS5 slim this year at $1000 Canadian plus an extra $100 for the disc drive I am just going to save my money for the Switch 2. I just can't justify a PS5 pro I just bought a new car which I need more to go to work then a PS5 pro.

I guess the proof of the pudding is in the sales numbers here...but I am scratching my head thinking who the hell will actually be buying this? Personally, I do not feel as though the games being put out this gen are sufficiently 'dragged down' by the original console enough. The PS4 Pro comparatively came out when the PS4 was ABSOLUTELY hitting its upper ceiling in performance with several games simply hitting a ceiling.

$700 price is high but in a way fair. For $200-$300 you get a 2tb nvme vs 825gb ($100 difference) and you getting about a 7700xt vs 5700xt.($200 difference) Not personally buying one but playing PC this is norm for upgrades. Is the price right for a resolution bump and 30 frames probably not but there is a market for it like GPU’s every 2 years for pc that still sellout. But I get the console market is different than the PC market.

As a huge PlayStation fan and someone who's owned every one of their consoles since the PSone era, the pricing is a huge disappointment. There's no way I'm paying over 1.2k in Australian dollars for it..

Just watching the video reveal and it's very "Apple" and the marketing is unreal. They are pulling the blinds over peoples eyes, and it's somewhat misleading. It's setting a false expectation that they aren't selling and it's advertised to people who they believe they do not understand specs.

Wuchang is great. Nine Sols didn’t have a physical copy so I never played it but I’ve heard good things so I will check it out. I stopped playing sports games many years ago when before the card dlc’s or whatever they’re called.
