New browser can make big difference

Many PC buyers assume there is one way to get onto the Internet -- Internet Explorer. It's already on the desktop, it seems to work, so why mess with a good thing?

But these days there are many choices when it comes to browsers, and even casual Internet users should be aware of the alternatives.

Beyond Microsoft's Explorer, the roster of major players now includes Safari (from Apple but usable on PCs), Firefox (from Mozilla), Chrome (a new entrant from Google) and Opera (from Opera Software). And there are relatively obscure choices such as Camino, Epiphany and the cute-sounding SeaMonkey. The list goes on. Here's a fairly complete roster: http://tinyurl.com/eed8b.

Im using chrome i used to use firefox then whent to safari but chrome fast and i love the tabs ... the biggest problem i have with chrome is i cant watch fancast shows on it or other sites :(.. but hey they might fix that soon..

Im sticking with firefox mainly because chrome doesn't have adblock plus (but once it gets it, I will probably use that more often)

i have pretty much eliminated 90% of the ads on my whole pc :) IE, firefox (adblock plus), chrome and w/e else :) you can do that by changing your hosts file to make ad sites link back to your pc.. this is my hosts file: http://pastebin.com/f22240e... just so you know.. pastebin can be edited by anyone.. i highly recommend you get the hosts file from the original website where i got it: http://everythingisnt.com/h...

Only a few things keep it from pure greatness but I hope in time Google will fix things like:
Can't send e-mail
Can't upload a video

as soon as those are fixed I won't be needing another browser =D

I use Opera because...well try it, you'll see. I had actually entirely forgotten about pop-ups (not lying, I literally forgot sites did it). I haven't seen one since I started using it.

used to use firefox, but when chrome came, switched to it quickly coz of the speed difference.. tho, as soon as fx3.1 is out of beta.. ill be using firefox again :)

What do you guys recommend? I've been using Firefox for a while, but I really don't like it much.

So out of Opera and Chrome, which one is better (in your experiences?)

ChickeyCantor6333d ago

Chrome is still in development, it might be fast now but in later builds it can get slower.

Opera is nice though, but i don't see much difference between that and firefox. You can always Try it =P uninstalling it isn't hard.

poindat6333d ago

Haha, true. Well I'm using Chrome now (it did only take a few seconds to install!) and its pretty ugly.

Karum6333d ago

Given the choice between Opera and Chrome I would choose Opera. I like the look and feel of it better.

I've tried Chrome but really didn't like it so I've stuck with firefox.

In my opinion, Firefox is the best. There's just been so much though put into how the tabs work and how you navigate the tabs, open new ones etc. Plus AdBlock is pretty handy.

drewdrakes6333d ago

Ive used them all and on any fresh install I put Opera. The mouse gestures are awesome and voice commands are easy to program. Its just a good fast experience in general. Ive put it on everything, Windows Vista, 7, Server 2008, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, it works with everything and its the same experience no matter what OS.

The firefox users will say how you can put mouse gestures in their browser, but thats too much work and the implementation in Opera is fantastic.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing22d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9222d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit22d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing22d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9222d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
