CONSCRIPT (XS) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "It goes without saying that CONSCRIPT is – first and foremost – a prodigious project by Jordan Mochi. Shouldering level design, narrative, puzzles, and more to this extent is an incredible rarity in today's age. And that singular vision is felt throughout each and every element. That also comes with potential drawbacks when inspired ideas that seem thematically consistent of this era partly vitiate its grander survival-horror aspirations. The otherwise-robust mechanical foundation gets snagged on barbed wire in the form of mismanaged level design, some cheap enemy encounters, and other miscellaneous detractions. But through it all, the journey remains a harrowing one that's easily worth volunteering your time and money to experience."

I have wishlisted this as I love WW1 trench warfare horror (even though the horror game "Trenches" ended up being terrible). Here's hoping this one delivers.

I really like the art style

coolbeans576d ago

Yeah, Trenches left a bad taste in my mouth too. If you're down for a classic RE survival-horror in the trenches I'm incredibly confident you'll at least enjoy this, *perhaps* even love it. The mechanics are all there:

-slower, more deliberate combat pacing
-this game's equivalent of Crimson Heads, making you weigh between killing or avoiding
-consumable ink ribbons for saving
-constrained inventory tension

It's just a shame that certain design snags dampened my enthusiasm. Because it'd be neck and neck with Crow Country were it not for those lesser qualities.

Thanks for that. I forgot about Crow Country!

To be fair, i played Trenches on Switch and I could not see a thing 2 meters ahead whereas in the PC version the visibility is far better and gives you a fighting chance.

I will also check Ad Infinitum when its goes on sale, seems decent enough

coolbeans571d ago

Even with better visibility on Series X, it's just another "avoid monster" horror that are a dime a dozen - and ALL running on Unity Engine.

Yeah, I haven't gotten around to Ad Infinitum or Amensia: The Bunker, sadly. I've heard great things about The Bunker too.

Any recommendations on The Invincible? Story worth investing the 10 or so hours?

Kyizen194d ago

Been wondering the same, I enjoy a laid back story based walking game but if the Story isn't interesting I dunno.

Kassanova07195d ago

Weak, I'm keeping at my backlog :D

Andy_Dee195d ago

Don't understand the downvotes. Literally a ton of fluff-games.. No premium here whatsoever. Couldn't agree more.

Could at least put one of the God of Wars, Last of us, Ghost would be perfect for those who missed since the new is coming next month..

Missed opportunity for sure.

StoneTitan195d ago

Ghost of tsushima is already in the catalogue
same with God of war 3, GOW 2018 and GoW Ragnarök
And for the last of us, its just TLOU 2 that is not on there.
Happy gaming :) You have been heard :D

Andy_Dee194d ago

@StoneTitan.

Yes, All of them might've been. I'm saying time to put some of them on there again! I have friends who bought ps5 now. They have none of those games. I'd rather have something new mixed with 1st party strong titles again than these fluff-games.

Each to their own but I think that's a way smarter strategy.

All of the franchises I mentioned are still ongoing btw. So why not get more and more ppl into them? I might sound arrogant but from a business perspective I feel I'm smarter than what they are putting out in this month..

Kassanova07194d ago

The drought is here for sure. Publishers are running out of worthy games to license. All this time spent trying to do live service has set the creative senses back at least 5 years.

Hello_World195d ago (Edited 195d ago )

Awkward silence.

Get Game Pass and you can play Hollow Knight Silk Song.

Michiel1989194d ago

for 5 dollars more you can play it forever

Loktai194d ago

Imagine having to invest in a dying gaming ecosystem to play a 5 dollar game for "free"

CONSCRIPT review - Hoping Through Hell | TechStomper

"Conscript is brutal, bloody and unrepentantly grim - a unique take on its subject matter and its genre, but one you'll need the stomach for."
