Krafton Acquisition of Tango Gameworks Doesn't Include The Evil Within or Other IPs

Krafton has confirmed that the acquisition of Tango Gameworks only includes the Hi-Fi Rush IP and not The Evil Within or Ghostwire Tokyo.

Crazy they kind of botched the Callisto Protocol and when they have a chance to take an already established survival horror franchise that could replace the one they did they don’t take it

It’s such a shame, The Evil Within is a great series and the sequel really went above and beyond to fix the issues with the first game. It’s a open levels is how I imagined a RE3 being like in Raccoon City.

excaliburps662d ago

Exactly. Like, what about a remake? I gather, the franchise isn't even that big? Or maybe they are thinking of new IPs for the studio? Crazy since I assumed The Evil Within was part of it.

Tacoboto661d ago

You don't know if they even had the option to get The Evil Within IP...

Even if they did and declined, I don't know what Business 101 would say about "Hey, our horror IP failed, let's go after another horror IP that didn't sell well!"

CrimsonWing69661d ago

What the sh*t!? I was all stoked to possibly get an Evil Within 3…

dveio661d ago

If I was an exec at Xbox, I would have given them every IP.

Because I would know the chances are high we'd do nothing with those IPs soon.

But if they would, which would have been likely, we could then sign a timed-exclusive deal for Evil Within 3, them returning the favor of us having allowed a complete transition.

It can only be benificial to have 3rd parties out there sharing favors with.

But that's just stupid non-Xbox exec me speaking here. They know better.

🤷🏼‍♂️

If you're an xbox exec with that mindset, you'd be fired

PassNextquestion660d ago

Xbox could always allow Tango to make a game using xboxs iP under the condition Tango makes the game exclusive for the xbox platform.

There's another studio called Toys For Bob Microsoft let free recently who is doing exactly this

badz149660d ago

Xbox exclusive? Yeah... Because THAT worked great for them ladt time with HFR!

/S

ReelBigMike660d ago

Bummer because, although I definitely enjoyed Hi-Fi Rush, I think Evil Within and Ghostwire are both much better. But hopefully MS will give those IP to another internal studio that will do them justice.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio36d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing36d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9236d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit36d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing36d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9236d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
