According to Jason Shreier. Wtf happened to Bungie in the past 10+ years.

Fell from Grace.

Good to hear!!
So much for abandoning SP games!!

Them leaving MS to go form a partnership with Activision really did a number on them

BeHunted611d ago (Edited 611d ago )

Sony should've offered Bungie another $1 billion dollar cheque to keep their employers.

Rude-ro611d ago

They did.
Before the first round of layoffs

No, Bungie CEO has a spending problem especially on expensive rare exotic car collection.

-Foxtrot611d ago

Why? Sony gave them extra money to keep people on hoping Bungie would sort their shit out

Bungie lied to Sony about what they could do and now they paying the price because of poor management

Most of the money probably went to the CEO buying all those nice cars

What else can Sony do at this point? The fact they gave them an extra billion or so after buying them to keep people on is more than any other big company would do.

ThinkThink609d ago (Edited 609d ago )

They did. It was 1.2 billion dollars though and I believe it was only for 18 months of guaranteed retention.

Not the same Bungie that worked on Halo's 1 through Reach, for starters. Most of the core team left for studios like Certain Affinity, V-1 Interactive, and Highwire Games (Six Days in Fallujah).

I'll never for the life of me understand why Jim Ryan glossed over purchasing a studio like Quantic Dream, in favor of a troubled, past their prime one like Bungie.

Lightning77611d ago

I'm also confused. Bungie said they didn't want to make Halo all their lives so they departed from MS. Makes sense to Mr why subject yourself to one game and IP? Challenge yourself and make something new ip. Destiny being the kind of game that it is, isn't the issue, it's the fact they decided to make that game for 10 years. Hypocrite much? Now Sony won't allow them to make anymore big expansions.

Which is not good at all.

I still consider they should have rebooted Marathon the 90s style i.e mysterious single player style .... not as an extraction shooter or whatever they're aiming now with totally different art style.
The original Marathon trilogy still has one of the deepest storylines in gaming ... Bungie should've revisited that narrative style.

Noskypeno611d ago

When they revealed it, I got excited thinking they would do a Doom style reboot, and then got confused why people got angry it had a live service me and then saw that's all they are making, ditching the SP that the IP is known for. Expand the levels and lore with modern graphics and add a simple arena shooter, that's all they had to do.

CrimsonIdol611d ago

No-one who has any attachment to Marathon wants an extraction shooter. So dumb. Would have been the easiest money they could make to make a modern Marathon game not jump on the oversaturated extraction shooter bandwagon

Its neat especially since not everyone might have two friends playing it. Makes it more personal to go at in duos.

It's 2026 and basic match making features in MP games are still being drip fed to an audience that still gets excited over said basic feature being implemented.
