We're waiting until things settle down, and waiting until Blu-ray takes off before we burden our customers with the cost of licensing.' Apple's membership with the Blu-ray Disc Association (of which companies like Hitachi, Sony, Hewlett Packard and 20th Century Fox are members) still stands and Jobs' departure may have given the company all the impetus it needs to try something new."

It's a step forward for Stop Killing Games.
Apple is the second biggest content provider of HD films digitally (the first being Vudu), I don't think we will see a digital future anytime soon but companies are motivated by profits and if the number crunchers at Apple see it's better to push their digital downloads service then Blu Ray it's definitely something they would do.
Makes good business sense. Most people either do not have fast internet access or would rather have a disc in their hands to call their own. The continued rise in Blue-Ray sales will insure it will be demanded by consumers. Surprised Blu-Ray drives aren't at least an option yet.
Isn't the new Mac Mini supposed to have a Blu-ray player?
I had not heard of that until just reading the article. If he was holding things back for apple to move forward with blu then there is no question that his departure will open the doors again to do so.
Like the article said, if MS wants to continue pushing DD then apple should adopt the unified stance of doing both DD AND blu in their set top boxes.
Perhaps whoever takes the reigns of apple will make better decisions in moving forward unlike bahlmer has done with ms in bill's absence.
Do very well i think if apple put in a Blu ray player with the apple Tv and sell it for what it goes for 299 i think that can sell like Hotcakes
