Flintlock Locks Achievements From Being Earned on Easy Difficulty

A44 Games' Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn locks players from earning achievements/trophies if they play on the easiest difficulty.

It did not fix the bug where SBI's Kiss of Death is already unlocked.

Im sure the targeted Modern Audience will play the game at the required difficulty right?

coolbeans687d ago

If its easy difficulty makes the campaign a cakewalk then what have you *actually* achieved?

HollowIchigo25687d ago

you achieved playing this mediocre game, the minimum they do is let you earn trophies.

@coolbeans, your normal is my easy, should you now also not get any trophies?

That depends on what "my normal" is supposed to entail. Does that difficulty demand I at least convey *some* fundamental understanding of its mechanics in order to succeed? Then I'd say getting some trophies sounds reasonable; HOWEVER, I don't see an issue in locking some or many achievements behind your hypothetical higher difficulty either. Some of the biggest franchises, like Call of Duty, have done that for ages. But it's up to the developer at the end of the day. And if they're upfront about it, the onus is on you to determine if that's worth financially supporting.

It's kinda surprising to see such a split reaction to a non-controversial gaming take too.

I think you're putting too much stock into the achievements system.

Look at it this way:

If someone who really plays casually can't do anything above easy... They're not allowed to earn achievements, even though they did the same things in game? 50 headshots, 30 enemies using some special attack, etc? Buddy, someone playing on hard can do everything the person on any difficult below that can do. That's the entire point to games unlocking cleared trophies for every difficulty below that: if you beat Uncharted 4 on Crushing for example, you earn the cleared trophy for everything below that. That's great in my opinion. You've beaten the game on a difficulty that throws everything at you. Of course you can do everything below that.

But why would you prevent someone from earning ANY achievements? Cleared trophies are fair to restrict, but not the whole game.

coolbeans687d ago

This isn't new for games. If you're basically able to *walk* through the game at ease I don't see the issue with it. It's a fair tradeoff, all told.

What do games from the Walking Simulator genre do?

coolbeans686d ago

You just walk and *maybe* do a few light activities or puzzle-solving, but you're talking about a different genre now. There's a clear disparity between that and a "Souls-lite" Action RPG with a difficulty option that requires virtually no investment of its mechanics to succeed.

A lot of games require you to play on normal or higher for trophies. Personally I prefer it that way but whatever the devs decide is fine with me it’s their game they set the rules.

victorMaje687d ago

This is the right idea. It’s up to the devs.
Let’s not forget games used to not have achievements/trophies or any incentive outside of just playing it…you either played a game because you liked it, or you didn’t.

Notellin686d ago (Edited 686d ago )

No this isn't true. They don't restrict you from earning trophies by playing on easy, instead you earn extra trophies on the harder difficulties.

Do you people even play games or are you just bots?

Elda686d ago

True. There are many games that can be played on easy & one can earn trophies.

Elda687d ago

I played it on that mode & beat the game in 6hrs. It was fun & I didn't care about getting any achievements.
