Remember alot of games were overhyped Mortal Kombat = "Mortal Mondays" Halo3 = "Finish the fight" and so on. It is traditonal for games to be overhyped but it is the consumers to either "believe the hype or let the hype go".

I know almost nothing about KZ2 beside knowing that it's shooter. I refrained from reading the articles as I don't do it for God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 either. I find it just ruining the gaming experience for myself. Part of the charm of Uncharted and God of War series for me was that it was a word-of-mouth thing for me and it was all the surprises that made the game that much more memorable.

I don't think the fanboy collective of the Internet comprehends that the majority of people who buy games don't experience most of the "overhyping" a high-profile game experiences. They'll see a commercial, read a review or two, and then buy it.

When a product is quality, it really doesn't matter...

Journalists who've gotten their hands on the final review code have nothing but praise for the game, stating that it's the best FPS they've ever played.

Only FOOLS and blind sheep buy into Net over hyping something, what ever it may be game or product.
Just because some company may promote something dont force anyone to become blind sheep.

Hype is only bad if the game turns out to be turd, like Haze, or Too Human, but as we know *ahem, 10/10, 9/10* Killzone 2 is AAA

considering ...

1. The game sells millions of copies the first day (unlike certian platformers that were hyped to be the second coming of christ and sold like crap)

and

2. The First game was actually good and the sequal was as good if not better.

3.Its halo , not in a million years will killzone be a face of gaming

I had to learn the hardway that WE are the ones who overhype the games for ourselves.

Resistance 2 is the perfect example of this personally. I hyped that game so much in my mind that it turned out to be underwhelming and average.

The media can hype the hell out of any game, but if we just take the game for what it is, we might enjoy it more than we think.

It is inevitable to suppress the hype that this game is getting because its carrying a lot of burden, plus the wait and its next months release will bring more hype. But i dont think that this game is a hype cause people have played it and was awestruck by it. Hyping is advertising without showing the goods. Killzone has been showing the goods for weeks and gave more than just a taste to the lucky few who tried it. Its not a hype anymore as even most of the biased cannot find any fault but to nitpick small details just to save a small portion of their dignity. I have never been this excited for a PS3 game (except for MGS4). Its been a long time since a PS3 game was this well received. And i hope that it lives up to the hype cause when it does then greater games on the PS3 will push through.

Bad hype is the game's character on every mountain dew can and cardboard cutouts in front of every ebgames. This hype is by word of mouth, which is the best hype there is.

Damage the game? No. The only thing that seems to get "damaged" from over hype are feelings when expectations aren't met. GTA IV being one example.

I think 90% of games are overhyped these days. I mean, sometimes people just hype them up because it's exclusive to their console of choice, without really knowing anything about the game (Too Human is a good example, as is White Knight Chronicles). It's sad because they don't realise that they're doing more harm than good, when a game gets hype up too much and doesn't live up to expectations, it gets much harsher criticism than it normally would. Fable isn't a bad example of this, I missed out on the "hype" for it because I never owned an Xbox, but coming up to the release of Fable 2, I bought the original and really enjoyed it. I then read all the previews and hype that I could find and can see why it was such a disappointment, but on it's own legs, it's not bad.
I hope the same thing doesn't happen to KZ2, just from the sheer effort the devs have put into the game, they deserve some great sales and the PS3 deserves another good exclusive.

I have yet to see one advert on Killzone 2. Hype? About the only thing that is 'over' are the comments to articles/video's relating to KZ2, and bear in mind, that's the general media spitting and gamers. And I wouldn't call it hype, more excitement/anticipation for a game. Remember:

Keywords are exaggerated, often, and misleading. Need all 3 to consider it 'hype'.

There are going to be elements to the game I wish were different. It happens with every game and always will. But one thing that will never change is how great it looks and that my friend is worth learning a new way to play for.

killzone 2 average score will be a 94 or more and if its lower, the gaming industry is doomed. killzone 2 is the best shooter ive ever played on any console, it does a lot of things that were in previous shooters but it does them way better and look the best in graphics while doing it so it should definitely score better than the rest. if you were in the beta which i was also, you would agree with me. this game isnt hyped enough and deserves all the praising it gets because we are all gamers and want to play the best games in the genre of gaming we like. killzone 2 equals best shooter game ever in history.

Over hyped games die quickly. Lair, HS, HAze, too human,afrika, R2 and among other things like home, failed to garner much attention shown before thier launch. Kz2 is the most overhyped property on ps3, we'll just have to wait another month to see what it really is. Deja vu, last year 360's doom stories were popping up left right and center around this time, leading all the way for MGS4. A month after MGS4 was found in bargain bin.

i was on n4g on my blackberry yesterday and reading through comments on some other KZ2 article and someone called it "the second coming of jesus". as long as you dont say things like that, i think we can still preserve KZ2 dignity and awsomeness.

Sony really does need another mainline shooter franchise. They pretty much gave up after the PS3 generation, and I'm really surprised they haven't tried at another high-profile, singleplayer-centric shooter; even if it weren't Killzone or Resistance.

I miss Killzone while I can see why they still do Horizon has some really good things but I do think that Horizon is overrated imo.

Or how about studios focus on projects that they feel passionate about, and not be forced to make something they have little interest in. It shows in the final product.

It’s still got potential for the modern era. The DNA is all there. The install base is there. The interest is there. The time is now.

I’m beating a dead horse here… but Resisitance FOM gun lay out was so fun, multiplayer was one of my top favorite experiences. Insomniac nailed it and I would love a remaster and maybe a redo with Reisistance 2. They listens to players who were wanting a Halo killer and it kind of lost its character from the first.

Warhawk, if they had just remade the first one not Starhawk which offered nice things like the build and battle.. but Warhawk was the best arcade shooter I ever played. Back when you didn’t have battle passes and you actually had to get certain amount of kills or ribbons to unlock different paint skins on the Warhawks and armor for your player.. Look at the success of Helldivers 2, it’s a fun game and it reminds me of Warhawk in a way. I’ve been wanting a remake or sequel since the beginning of the ps4 gen.. it’s hurts to have hope nowadays. Even with the demise of the studios Sony has a steady fan base.

Sorry bud, but the PS3 generation was amazing and featured the greatest console comeback in history.

That said, I'd love it if Warhawk returned or Metal Gear Solid 4. It needs to not be shackled to the PS3 generation anymore. A Killzone 2 remake would be insane with modern graphics and that art direction.

I really miss this gen of gaming. It felt like the last truly "great" era for videogames before the modern approach really took hold.

The PS3 was such a glorious console. The UI, the games, the free online...just incredible.

I would pay good money for a Warhawk remake. Socom too. The last Socom game just didn’t do it justice. Folklore could use a remaster or remake as well.
Several other titles I would like to remade with the amount of visual fidelity the current gen has over the past consoles it could help articulate the games that we’ve loved growing up. I would love even some ps2 titles to remade.. Dark Cloud from ps2, Legacy of Kain series but don’t know what will come of it sense it was bought by Embracer group and all there layoffs.

This strategy is exactly what helped ruin Xbox. Sony more than Microsoft know when to let a franchise go and that is important to keep things fresh. The old games are there if you want to play them.

FF13 is top of this list for me. No matter your opinion on it, it being the only numbered offline FF out of all 16 not to be on new consoles is odd. GTA IV would be great too

The only reason my PS3 is still connected is because of the Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm games that I still love to play. I am for remaking or remastering them.

I was never a huge fan of Killzone, but thoroughly enjoy Horizon. Guerrilla are superb developer and easily up there with the best of the best.

Need a killzone 2 remake from the ground up.

Great studio, loved the Killzone series, I wish they would do a remake of the first three games. Horizon is a real step up and truly put Guerrilla Games on the map.

Too bad I never got a chance to play Shellshock: Nam’67 would have loved to try that game out back in the days to see what were their beginnings.

It would fantastic to see what they could do in Killzone after the lessons learned through Horizon.

Or heck, give us even a short linear FPS from the people who designed Cauldron THETA in the Burning Shores expansion. Even just flying into it (after gliding around and finding its opening amongst the lava and Sunwings perched around it, with other bigger machines just along the path toward it) was an incredible experience.

Forbidden West is awesome, It’s pretty damn big compared to Zero Dawn and it takes a little while to get your skills up and get the equipment you need to fully explore the game (not going to spoil it) but once you do those things and start fighting the big ass machines it really is amazing. Some cool side quests to where you hold the fate of peoples lives by your choice and the cauldrons look amazing. Lots of skills , combos, special moves and add ons for your weapons so you can approach fights many ways. Looking forward to the name game but I wonder how/if Silas will be a part of it or not ? Sad he’s gone.
