VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "MultiVersus is by no means irredeemable; there’s potential here for a competent Smash-like fighter and real effort to be found in elements like the characters and stages, but this is its second shot at living up to that potential and it seems to have actually taken more steps backward than forward. If you feel a great need to try out the cross-over madness for yourself then there’s some fun to be had dicking around for a few hours, but it’s hard to recommend it as a title for anyone to invest actual amounts of time in, much less money."

Warner Bros.' crossover platform fighter might be dead in the water come this summer, but that doesn't mean the game deserves to be lost forever.
It does seem strange to me for a predominately online mp game.. WB are essentially acting like a sulking kid and taking their ball home. Even if the game is essentially in maintenance mode, I don't see why they can't keep it online still. If I was someone who invested heavily in the game and spent a ton all that MT junk, I'd be furious at what they are doing.

Multiversus director Tony Huynh has responded to threats made over the weekend after news of the game being shut down saying they are "crossing the line."
The thing about death threats is that it's something which is so awful but at the same time is never fully proven in the open. Like if I had a bunch of horrible trolls sending me death threats I'd name and shame them but no one ever does.
I'm not saying for this specific situation but it's getting to the point where it's starting to feel like when a studio, publisher or industry person is under fire they just have to causally mention death threats and everyone just slows down. The attention is taken away from the main issue and the fanbase turns against one another trying to find the bad eggs amongst themselves while gaming journalists have a field day s****ing on gamers telling people how how toxic they are. In the end it just comes off as a PR tactic to help them divert attention away from the main controversy.
Death threats are sad to see but take that away from his statement and you see how awful response actually is.
At the end of the day people just highlight what a small amount of people are doing to dodge any accountability.

Free-to-play Smash Bros.-style brawler MultiVersus has significantly underperformed, Warner Bros. Discovery has admitted, contributing to a further $100 million writedown for the company’s games business in 2024.
Suicide squad took $200 million hit plus this took $100 million hit. I am sure the amount it took to make both of these failures they could have easily made a very nice Batman game and instead of taking a $300 million hit they could have made a nice return on the Batman game. Hell they could have also made a new Middle earth game as well with the combined budget of the above two games.
I feel MultiVersus would have been better as a full on game over live service and maybe be more focused on old school Cartoon Network rather than mostly newer content like Steven Universe or Adventure Time. Those kinds of shows are still relevant today in other media while older characters have that nostalgic factor adult fans would have appreciated more.
" focus onHogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC in particular Batman. "
~ did they forget there's an active game development going on at Monolith for another DC character?
Wonder Woman?
This game had like Smash Brothers like hype on a lot of YouTube channels I followed when it first dropped before its removal. Not sure how they fumbled the ball this badly. Who but WB games.
The characters in rotation at any time is so small that you just end up fighting the same ones over and over.
It's whack that they shut down the game for a year, and the pool of characters is still so small, they slowed down the gameplay so much that everything feels so clunky and unresponsive, rank is locked for some reason, costumes can't be grinded to be purchased for free, there are infact 4 different forms of currency which make up most of what can be earned for playing the game, arenas are unimaginative and bland STILL, music sounds like calm overworld music you'd hear in a KH game, rifts take forever to complete, the mini games in rifts are taken from straight Smash Bros but somehow they're worse, and the season pass which is free for everyone has some horrible rewards. Smash Bros still king, and i don't even own or play Smash Bros.
Worst Smash clone I've ever played. The only reason they shut it down was because they needed to make enough content to sell as a live service game.
Messed the game up so bad. It's so slow inputs feel laggy m. Bunch of mat hes so far where either people just soft quit or the game becomes desyncd. Thinking the latter due to how often
