Five reasons why Killzone 2 will kick major backside

MyPS3 Writes:
Killzone 2 has infected the minds of most PS3 gamers for well over a year now and with the game so close to release, questions about its quality are starting to rise. Debate and discussion is filling most PS3 forums on teh interwebz and it seems like there is more negativity towards the game - mainly because of the lackluster original - than positivity.

That's where we come in. Even if Killzone 2 isn't as good as some of the previews are trying to lead us to believe, it's still going to kick us to the curb in some areas. Most of us have seen, some of us on-hand (at eGames) but few have actually played it. We haven't either, but we're just going to go ahead and assume why we think Killzone 2 is going to rock our jocks off. We've ignored the advice from out mum that "when you assume you make an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'", so here's five reasons why we're excited for the upcoming FPS!

WANNA GET HIGH6263d ago (Edited 6263d ago )

This is one game u have to play for ur self.I am encouraging every gamer/fan boy to forget about review scores do not worry about what the game will sell and dont get sucked into the hole "oh it did not sell a million copies day1 so it is a flop blablabla argument!!!".Just buy the game and play it for ur self and enjoy it mostly the graphics and dont follow the flame bait reviews that will pick out the smallest thing to bash, dont let any one play with ur mind.Reviews are just another person opinion and like the old saying goes "one mans food is another mans poision".I think i have made my point.

FEB 25TH I shall c u online.

Sarcasm6262d ago

Killzone 2 will have media support when it becomes an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Both aint happening.

:)

rCrysis6263d ago

i need this game now. man, can't February come any faster?

*Gets in hyperbolic time chamber, sets date to 2/27/09*

Done and done ;)

EDIT: Automated Message: I'm sorry but the requested user "Sk8boyP" is using the Time Chamber currently, if the message below is true then the requested user is screwed harder than Paris Hilton at a dance club.

Liquid Snake6263d ago (Edited 6263d ago )

hyperbolic time chamber? Don't you have to stay in it for 2 months while 2min passes in the real world? LOL

Don't you mean you hop in the Delorean and set the date to 2/27/09?

:)

PikkonX6263d ago (Edited 6263d ago )

Yes, I can assure you, the hyperbolic time chamber is the last place you want to go during this wait. One day of real time is one year in the chamber.

Ouch, a 44 year wait lol. At least you'll come out a Super Saiyan.

Sarcasm6262d ago

Sk8Boy, you didn't hear? Killzone 2 was cancelled and then picked up by MS.

UnSelf6262d ago

to all, its actually called the Room of Spirit and Time

Pikkon im ashamed of u as u shouldve known this but then again u have never been in there which is why u lost to my best friend Goku at the Other World tounament.

Oh and Pikkon.......dont ever try to fight Janemba again please

OH AND PIKKON.....ur name is actually Pikuhan

PikkonX6262d ago

Lol, no need to get so technical. Those are the English names used. And actually my name is パイクーハン which is Pa-i-ku-ha-n. Paikuhan.

For the few that got the play the beta we know that the game can talk the talk and walk the walk, so knowing that it will live up to all the hype make it a good enough reason to buy it

Luke41236263d ago

One of the best written articles on Killzone 2! Nice work guys!

tplarkin76263d ago

The article says that the AI will be a "new standard for the industry". It then says, "The AI will take cover, take advantage of your disadvantages and move around the environment so as to get out of your line of fire, even if they're in cover."

Halo 1 did all of that.

Bathyj6263d ago

I guess Killzone does it better.

tplarkin76263d ago

I guess Sony fans don't need evidence. There is no evidence of amazing AI. The article gave none, either.

Snow6263d ago

lol i love stealth trolls like Tplarkin. It makes it more fun to spot them rather then the obvious rabid mouth-foaming trolls like POG/MART or bladestar

tplarkin76263d ago

I only own a 360 and will never buy a PS3. I guess there's some "bias" there. But, from this perspective, I see PS3 owners missing out on amazing games like Halo or Gears, and then make crazy claims about Killzone 2. (Before they have actually played it.)

So, they haven't played any 360 shooters, and then they say that a future game they haven't played is going to be better. On top of that, KZ2 is a sequel to a mediocre FPS.

Bathyj6263d ago (Edited 6263d ago )

Wheres your evidence to doubt them. You have none, they've played it, you haven't, they aren't jerks, you are.

Sorry, but I'll take their word and IGN's word and the word of 100's of beta testers before yours. Your obviously just looking for something not to like about it and thats the best you can come up with. Sad.

And I own all the consoles. Its just so typical of a fanboy to assume that whoever likes PS3 best doesn't have an X360.

Well Gears2 was just boring for me, I couldn't play it for long when I had Fable to play as well. And Halo hasn't been good since the first one, and even that as great as it was only had 3 or 4 good levels, the outdoor ones. The inside ones were the same room copy and pasted over and over again.

Hey I loved the game but talk about lazy level design. One reviewer called it an engine without a game which has a certain element of truth to it. Thank God the good levels like Halo and Silent Cartographer saved it.

But how would I know. I only have a Playstation.

PS
Killzone 1 was a good solid shooter. Easily a 8.5. Not perfect, but at least its a series getting better, not worse.

gametheory6263d ago

Hey, how can you accuse PS3 fans of not knowing anything about FPS and at the same time compare a third generation PS3 game with a first generation Xbox 1 game (LMAO) without playing Killzone 2 or even owning a PS3, and still keep a straight face while at it? Calling on others' for what you're doing, classic.

Notice I didn't have to insult him, though everyone already knows what kind of insults he deserves; then again, I wouldn't call them insults, merely descriptions of his past, present and probable future behavior of himself and his offspring.

tplarkin76263d ago

How does Killzone 2 look any different than CoD4? Yet, many of you are saying that the graphics are the best ever created.

I want to play the game to see if the hype matches the actual game. I am curious, but not convinced to spend the money on a PS3.

SmokingMonkey6263d ago (Edited 6263d ago )

did any halo have these graphics?

did halo ever run 32 players online?

did you pay $50 a year to play it?

EDIT:

did CoD4 run 32 players and "equal" graphics?

tplarkin76263d ago

Lazy level design in Halo 1? The levels were on a scale never before realized in an FPS. Instead of dark corridors, you had bright sunny outdoors. The textures were all normal maps which were state of the art in 2001. The textures were hi-res and you could stand in front of a wall with a sniper, zoom in and not see any pixels.

On top of all that, you could "go anywhere" on the maps. No invisible walls.

Maybe you're thinking of Prince of Persia? That's lazy level design.

steck676263d ago (Edited 6263d ago )

"How does Killzone 2 look any different than CoD4?"

Sorry but, are you blind? Its pretty obvious. Both CoD4 and Killzone 2 plays differently and of course looks differently. Killzone 2 looks miles better than CoD4.

tplarkin76263d ago

For example, if you count trolls on screen, there are over 4000. These 4000 trolls fight independently. This is impressive AI on a large scale.

What, specifically, can you say that Killzone 2 does which demonstrates great AI? Taking cover, dodging bullets, and moving around in the environment are fundamental to any gun fight.

Bathyj6262d ago

Did you even read what I said, or do you just not know what level design is.

Didn't I just praise the outdoor levels, saying they're the games saving grace. The big open areas were awesome.

I'm talking about In the Belly of the beast, I'm talking about the Library. I'm talking about all the other levels that are not much more a small room repeated over and over again and every room you entered felt like the one you just left. Halo good as it is, was shocking for it. Thats what I mean by copy and paste level design.

And what are you talking to me about textures, and normal maps? Thats graphics. It has NOTHING to do with level design.

tplarkin76262d ago

My point about the textures was that they were the best of the best at the time. That was the reason for the repeat/backtracking of a few maps. If you create new geometry, you would want new textures.

Regarding the Library: it has become en vogue to criticize it. It wasn't that bad. Being led by 343 Guilty Spark through the varied corridors was very cool.

The only thing that matters right now is Killzone 2! My Falcon Elite is in Texas being repaired as we speak and my PS3 is holding me down! I came into the new year without my 360! Anyways, Killzone is right around the corner and then we have street fighter 4!!! I can't wait!!! Not to mention RE 5 and so-on!!!! Born date for my falcon XBOX 360 Elite is 1/13/08 and it died with 2 red lights quadrants 1 and 3 over heating on 12/27/08!!!!! LOL! They received it on 1/13/09! Back at M$ a year after it was born!!!

SDS Gamerfiend6263d ago

No 360 when the ball dropped for 2009?! I think that, that means 2009 is the year of PS3!!!

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX502d ago (Edited 502d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne502d ago (Edited 502d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro502d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken502d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown502d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72502d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken502d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya501d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast502d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood502d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro731d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72731d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_731d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga731d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos731d ago (Edited 731d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23731d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000731d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin731d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole731d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix731d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989731d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor731d ago (Edited 731d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

731d ago
Michiel1989731d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor1035d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar1035d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg1035d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz1491034d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance11381035d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim1035d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC1035d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance11381035d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle1035d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix761035d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware7301035d ago (Edited 1035d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger1034d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca1035d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy1035d ago (Edited 1035d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain1035d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright1035d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
