Microsoft thinks you're disposable

Microsoft has worked very hard to make gamers who use Live feel like people instead of numbers by providing so many customization options to allow users to create a real identity. But there is a problem, one which Destructoid discovered today, which threatens to destroy all of that identity and reduce users to a second-class status permanently.

I think their products are disposable

EDIT: this reminds me of "The day that microsoft makes something that doesn't suck, is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners."

rroded6320d ago (Edited 6320d ago )

Seems pretty shady 2 me i mean its obviously a cash grab from ms. At least Im safe after having rroded a few times its not like ill ever spend money on anything ms again...

That is what I felt like after buying two Xbox 360s after the first one died, the unfortunate side-affects of a collector. Don't send it in to get it repaired, keep it as a desktop weight, proof that I played my systems to the max!

barom6320d ago

lol I normally wouldn't agree with such comments. But that vacuum one was too funny not to laugh.

ZootHornRollo6320d ago

this is why you never buy a microsoft product or try to get help from them

and i feel for the dude cuz he spent money on dlc and its stolen from him.

sadly this is why he should of bought a ps3. not trolling here but he could of had this fixed just buy owning a ps3

Tempist6320d ago

I wonder if Sony / PSN has the same or similar policy. I wonder who we can ask.

Godmars2906320d ago

Considering that PSN accounts are free, I doubt there's any way that can happen. Anything you buy, any trophies you acquire, are forever linked it.

On the other hand, video DL is a one time thing weather you rent or buy, so if you lose the latter you're screwed. Also game stuff you buy off PSN can only be DL five times then has to be bought again if needed again past that limit.

ZootHornRollo6320d ago

you can make a psn id and let it sit idle forever with out them deleting it.

this is the first xbox owner i feel sorry for and dont make fun of.

only cuz he stressed dlc and lost all of it. and i would go ape sh!t and break my xbox if that happend to me

CBaoth6320d ago (Edited 6320d ago )

You are also wrong. Once you buy something (PSN games), you always have it and can download it 20 times if you wanted to from the PSN. You can have up to 5 different PS3s associated w/ your account download any content you've purchased. Everytime I buy/DL a PSN game, I download it to both my son's PS3 and a friend's. I've had both a bad PS3 and a HDD, and have DLed the same content like the COD4 map pack like 6-7 times, so there's no limit. Now the video service is a different beast.

I didn't use my 360 for months last year, easily more than 3 months. I hadn't bought a 360 game since Halo 3 until Gears 2 and Fable 2 came out and there was nothing wrong with my XBL silver account. My charge and play kits, that was another story. All of my controllers were working fine last I used them but when I started playing Fable 2, not one of them would hold a charge anymore. I had to replace all my battery packs. Irritating as hell.

Same as hotmail if you don't use it it goes inactive. but in this case you lose all your info and your a noob again. who i hope ms changes this. that's the good think about psn that your "gamertag" psn id is portable so you can use it on any ps3. and you can even put all the games you bought on 4 other ps3's other then the one you own.

LaloB6320d ago

Completely agree with this article.
Now I can't change any aspects of my live account from my computer or Xbox. Hoping that this article will reach someone's attention at Microsoft so this problem can be fixed.
Btw, hilarious vacuum cleaner joke, carbide.

Just wondering, how is the customer service for the 360 like?I mean for the hardware issues. I know about the 3 year warranty. But yea, I wouldn't know, I don't have a 360, I'm lucky I haven't had to call sony yet, my 60gb still works like a charm.

edwineverready6320d ago

My launch 60gb broke down after warranty had to pay 200 euro for a refurbished 60gb. it only took two weeks to get it back and there customer service is really polity and they don't make you feel as a number.

chzimmerman6320d ago

Where the hardware issues are concerned, I've never had a problem with their customer support. Out-of-warranty repairs may be a different story, but my experience with them repairing a faulty disc drive went very smoothly.

Carbide76320d ago

Thank you for the responses.

crck6320d ago

They don't require you to keep a receipt like Sony does. However Sony foots the bill for faster shipping.

Taco_Waffle6320d ago

Let's just say that if my current 360 dies there will be a whole bunch of used games on eBay. Never again.

Digital Downloads are the future! *chicken dances*

EDIT BELOW: That's why people always say they use their 360 more than their PS3, it's because they can't afford not to use it. Sneaky move by MS but kinda smart nonetheless.

Microsoft should keep server full of abandoned live and hotmail accounts and pay money to maintain this information in the event that the people who once owned these accounts would come back and want to used them again, they should also hire a fortune teller so that only keep the account that the fortune teller says are definitely coming back some day, maybe 1 year from now, maybe in 5 uears will be maintained.

I mean, it's the same everywhere right, when you don't pay your electric bill, and they turn off your lights they just turn them back on for free once you pay your bill, no need to charge for a connection fee.

If you don't pay your cell phone bill and it gets disconnected, after have it disconnected for a year, when you go back to the phone company, your old phone number will be right there waiting for you.

And don't worry about the agreement that you read before setting up such accounts, those rules don't apply to stupid people.

dragunrising6320d ago

You know as well as I do that a LIVE gamertag is nothing more than a few MB. There is no reason this information cannot be retained for at least a year.

ZootHornRollo6320d ago

M$ builds and runs servers they have an endless server mainframe.

you acting like a bunch of 0's and 1's take up a TB of space.

they have enough servers to store almost every persons data living in the usa.

just like the NSA stores your online convo's. they have the space to store data

KingME6320d ago

Dudes, it's not about how much space Microsoft has on their servers or how much money they have. I have plenty of space in my garage, that doesn't mean I want to keep a bunch of junk that I'm not using anymore.

The problem with some people (obviously the two above) is that they accept zero responsibility for their actions and or lack there of and expect society to throw them a bone.

Let me explain how it works (straight from the mouth of XBL support.)
If a person has an xbl gold account and they allow it to expire, it automatically reverts to silver. The only way a silver account expires is if it remains inactive for 30 days, that mean zero contact with the silver account for 30 days.

So lets say you are deployed or on vacation. You have a couple of options, you can either buy a 90 day gold subscription to cover you while are out of pocket or you can let it revert to silver and then once every 29 days log into xbox.com to keep your silver account active at no charge to you. When you return, pay for your gold subscription and you will not loose any gamertag/score information.

Why do people think that they should be able to set things aside for an extended period of time and return to it whenever they like and everything is suppose to be fine and dandy. How delusional.

Although Sony's policy for this is much better than Microsofts, Sony will delete your account if it is inactive for 18 months. And they will not refund you any money left in your wallet or refund you any purchased items.

I must say I like sony's policy better than Microsofts, but at the same time people need to be responsible for safeguarding things that are important to them instead of expecting the rest of the world to do it for them.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
