Should we still hate the PS3?

Figboy of Select/Start writes in a recent informative article about just this topic

"Over the past three years, we've seen what used to be a rather amicable ritual known as the "Console War", degenerate into a series of arguments fueled by review scores, sales data, back-biting, spite, sour grapes, and pretty much everything but a little thing called common sense and reasoning. You expect the fanboys to behave this way; it's in their nature, they're fanboys. Thing is, even the gaming media themselves have gotten swept up in this vitriol spewing debacle that is the current state of the "Console War."

One console over all others has been on the receiving end of so much of that media and gamer hate and bias, that it's no wonder when its sales numbers fail to match up to its nearest competition, let alone its predecessor! That console is, of course, the Playstation 3."

Follow the link to read on for quality, pertinent & factual information for a different insight that describes how things are & have been over the past couple of years since the launch of the PS3.

While there, check out some of the other gaming topics & perspectives as well as his gaming reviews & thoughts for the Wii, Xbox 360 & PS3!

...everyone should read this article. Well written with a lot of truths.

Danja6251d ago

yeh ppl who still can't afford one will hate the PS3...

LoVeRSaMa6251d ago

Who is this "We" they are talking about?

Wii?
Wee?

joydestroy6251d ago

yup very very good article spitting out the truth.
i didn't even realize how far the PS3 had actually come until reading that. basically everytime someone complained about something on the PS3, Sony did something about it and gave the people what they asked for. some things may have taken longer than others, and people may even still be waiting on things, but it came or is coming.

KingME6251d ago

When I first started to read this article I thought it was going to have some objective content. Instead, it would up being a simple plea by some desperate fanboy to get people to like his console of choice.

No surprise there.

Hate what they can't conquer...guess it's just the fury of man"

UnSelf6251d ago

What else is new?

its whats "in" right now

Secret MS Employee6251d ago

I was actually talking to a janitor in the building and he said there were plans for microsoft to actually buy the entire internet so we as employees could expect a nice bonus, but anyway, they are buying the internet to create a "We Hate Sony" cult starting at sites such as Gametrailers, Gamespot, Kotaku. That way no one discusses our lack of exclusives, hardware failure, or made up sales numbers

phosphor1126251d ago

But I don't see why you'd need to hate the PS3 in the first place. I mean..though it had "lack of games" there were great games (that were certainly underrated).

Oh, also, Sony was never the arrogant ones, it was Ken, he got in way over his head. Yes, Krazy Ken, that's why Sony was unanimous when they decided to boot him from the company, even though he was the "father of the Playstation". He was hurting Sony, they knew it was going to take time to get things started, but Ken's comments is the reason why Sony undelivered in the beginning.

I think PS3 is a worthy console, it won't die as a console, and certainly won't DIE on me.

Great article, I don't think I found a single point I can disagree with.

hits the nail on the head,360 has had so many passes from faulty hardware to broken games gettin ridicously high scores when will it end and people just be true honest gamers?

ChampIDC6251d ago

Exactly why everyone should just stop caring about sales, reviews, etc., and just enjoy the games they love.

CaseyRyback_CPO6251d ago (Edited 6251d ago )

This site will get 50 people from N4G to visit it. Half of you aren't even reading it, but its saying the reality. There is no spin here. But as with newspapers, fabrications & truth stretching sells more papers than reporting that "well, there was really no news today"

Every point is true. People are still mad at sony for lying about kz2, in the face of KILLZONE2: The worlds most advanced gaming engine known to man, people would rather ignore that. And complain about the crouch button. And GG still has to mention the CGI trailer when interviewing.

Its too bad that more blogs dont dive into the history of the PS3 over its lifetime, and directly compared to the 360, its done well all-things-considered.
But yeah, enjoy this one guys.. but this is probably where it ends. The media has a hardon for the PS3 failing. Nothing you say or do is going to change this until SONY themselves actually decide to step up and speak for themselves, and start pointing these things out themselves. The Media is definitely not working in Sony's favor folks. But who's fault is that?

CaseyRyback_CPO6251d ago (Edited 6251d ago )

'YOU LIED ABOUT 4D'
'YOU LIED ABOUT KZ2!!!'
etc

GG cleared up KZ2 in 2005. Said it was their target render many many many times. I know it was never advertised as running ingame by sony. What does truth have to do with any of this ;) heh.

Definitely a well thought out article. The ps3 has been a laughing stock even before it saw it's release and the hate is still strong despite the fact that Sony and the ps3 have achieved alot since it's launch day. The 360 has gotten a ridiculous amount of passes when it come to hardware failure etc..etc but despite this fact the 360 has seen nothing but praise.

What sales whores refuse to take in is that in the same time frame the ps3 has sold more than the 360 in it's two years on the market. This of cause is not seen by the many American FUD filled articles. The days of Sony not having any games and 2007 arguments are long gone. The ps3 2009 line up is astonishing and PSN and HOME will continue to grow as will the PSN community.

Third party support is stronger than ever and will eventual stay that way the rest of this gen. Honestly i'm expecting to get another 8 years of unprecedented gaming entertainment from Sony and my ps3. Anyone who still doubts that the future is bright for the ps3 is in serious denial. I welcome all consoles and gaming platforms in general be cause without the competition, god knows what type of scummery these corporations will be dealing in.

Kleptic6251d ago (Edited 6251d ago )

I agree...the Xbox 360 will go down as one of the most unreliable piles in electronics history..even if this jasper savior fixes it...yet at the same time it will also be the most babied and protected video game console of all time...

had Sony or the PS3 done what MS and the 360 has done...they wouldn't be around this gen anymore...no question about it...

keep hating the Ps3...I don't care...its funny that most of these media sites and fanboys trash Sony for being innovative...there is not a single argument to counter the fact that the 360 was absolutely a step backwards over all...less of a feature set on board than that of the standard Xbox (not talking about how XBL has grown, only about the value of the 360 sku's compared to the original console)...

Sony generation after generation brings innovative hardware and features (every system has had a new state of the art optical format come with it...every single one, even the PSP...and the PSP was the only format to fail...as it arguably should have)...the PSP 'remote play' connectivity is a strangly under used addition to this with the PS3..although I don't even own a PSP as I don't care for handhelds...

MS has received arguably little criticism about their shortcomings...people made a stink about the RROD issue, but it was largely met with 'oh well' after a few months...the fact that XBL is still charging users to play online never gets any momentum, as the ignorant still say 'there are massive amounts of features missing from the PSN still'...wrong...there are two...cross game chat and unified invites/parties...that is it...the free PSN offers 50x more dedicated servers than the pay for XBL also, something that is inexcusable in my book...

and the entire Home thing...its treated as a flop (which is entirely untrue, as the service is PACKED with people on a daily basis)...yet because it didn't launch right when it should of, and lacked some features at its release...the media rights it off like MS has nothing to worry about...on the other hand the mii like NXE is treated as the second coming of gaming goodness...

in the end...none of it matters...day by day the PS3 is beginning to illustrate its value over competition...its starting with games (mgs 4 gives visual fidelity still unmatched by competition, only the internal Killzone 2 tops it)...its already 98% their with online features, as once those final two functions are added...the PSN is hands down better due to the already mentioned mountains of dedicated high speed servers for games...and it still doesn't cost you a dime...the video store gets hundreds of peices of content a week also...while that may not rival that of netflix so far, the system still offers BD playback, which trashes any compressed HD format that Netflix attempts to offer streamed in...and this is all assuming the rumors of a blockbuster partnership are untrue...Home is also growing considerably, with multiple new game spaces coming over Q1 2009...EA has a massive space set to explode with free games and leaderboards for existing titles...of which players can gather around the leaderboards, and chat with other gamers around the world about the games they like to play...and shut up about 'that sounds ghey', as the fact that you are reading this post immediately illustrates that you enjoy discussing gaming with others...you wouldn't be on N4G reading posts from others if you felt that way...also Killzone 2's space is rumored to be the first to introduce game launching, with built in tournament support...two clans can filter out the space so that they are the only ones visible...the two clans can butt heads for a few minutes, then all directly launch from home into a tournament against each other...and the game and Home both will track all 'betting' that goes on in the game, and report feedback in real time to tournament leaderboards visible in the game space...other clans and players can watch the outcome of a tournament in real time in Home...if that isn't awesome for gaming...I don't know what is...

3 years from now this battle between the 2 systems will be more of a joke than anything...Sony always starts a generation soft...then ends it in a way that clearly illustrates just how powerful they are in this industry...most of the PS3 hate is still surrounded by arguments of 2007...while its still arguably too expensive, it offers a hell of a lot more than it once did...and its only getting better on a monthly basis from here on out...

At first I was like, No Code Veronica on the list!? But then I seen Mainline. The list checks out, but I would personally put 2 over 4.

KwietStorm_BLM1d 14h ago

I'll take 2 over 4 also. And even without a number, I don't see how Code Veronica, my other favorite in the franchise, isn't mainline when it's the actual sequel to RE2.

Rebel_Scum1d 17h ago

The original RE was the best. Its not on the list which makes no sense.

The remake of it was alright but should be higher on this list.

-Foxtrot1d 14h ago

The original RE smokes VII and Village, come on.

I would be interested in a Saints Row 2 Remake.

I would agree... if the old Volition was still around to do it.

Abnor_Mal2d ago

I just started this game last night, just the player creation had me upset. You choose male but they stand like a female. Eyebrows are all effeminate, face, and verything seems to be modeled after a female with a thin male overlay.

I only played the opening and didn’t even complete that before I turned the game off. I will likely go back and try it again, but a very weird first impression.

Huey_My_D_Long2d ago

You sound super weak to be upset by a character creator ngl

ChunkyMonk2d ago

welcome to your average n4g daily user lol

chicken_in_the_corn2d ago

I'm not surprised after the backlash and hatred the last one got.

1nsomniac2d ago

The franchise has been complete utter garbage for almost 20 years. The first one was the only decent game of the lot of them.

Huey_My_D_Long2d ago

OMG Thank you! Never understood how people raved about Saints Row like it was GOATED.
Honestly Janky Generic feeling titles with Humor that tried to way too hard. People criticize Borderlands for its humor, but holy hell, still leagues better than any SR.

Grand Theft Auto Relied on "Illusions" Over Simulation, According to Obbe Vermeij

The second part of GTA BOOM's interview with Obbe Vermeij where they turn from origin stories to craft. Specifically, how early GTA games created the illusion of life, and why that illusion still matters more than brute-force simulation.
