Dailygame: Killzone 2 is one of my most anticipated games of 2009. I didn't need the beta to come to that conclusion; I've known that since I got my hands on the game at E3 2008. Killzone 2 is the best-looking game I have ever played. It's got intense scripted moments a la Infinity Ward's Call of Duty games, its gunplay and AI are a sheer joy, and its multiplayer action is as deep and robust as any you've played to date. So why did the Killzone 2 beta leave me with a sour taste?
It wasn't the beta itself; that was fantastic (although I did get my a$$ handed to me by all the "vets" since I joined the party a few days late). Instead, it was the experience reinforcing the flaws inherent in having a public multiplayer beta in the first place. The Killzone 2 beta wasn't a disappointment at all; it was the realization that it suffered from the problem inherent in all public betas.

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.
1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland
I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.
Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.
Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!
The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer
Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱
The Amsterdam-based studio reflects on its humble beginnings, beloved franchises, and growth through the years.
Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.
32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III
Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.
I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.
Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.
The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.
It has nothing to do with Killzone per say... Did he just add Killzone just to get hits?
its an old argument...and its not really public betas...its competitive multiplayer shooters...someone is ALWAYS better than you...just live with it...some people get turned off by getting destroyed all the time in a competitive game...which is hard for me to figure out why...we have all sucked at one point...just get better...or don't play it...either way, whining about it accomplishes nothing...
the good news is that Killzone 2 'feels' different enough that pretty much everyone is will be starting from zero on day 1...its a clean slate...nothing else plays or feels like the multiplayer of killzone 2...its not CoD 4, despite the comparisons (anyone in the beta knows exactly what i am saying)...and it definitely isn't halo...its killzone...after this game releases, there will be a third faction for the 'what does this shooter play like' question...CoD, Halo, or killzone?...
the final build has enough control tweaks and weapon changes to keep even beta testers on their toes...of which there were only a few thousand anyway...the chances of you getting trashed constantly by a beta tester are slim to none, as its very likely millions will have this game in the first few weeks...
but you better believe that this game will garner a massive hardcore audience and fan base...the clan stuff is extremely deep...with in game sanctioned tournaments and 'bets'...there will definitely be a crowd that takes this game very seriously for a few years...thats how all the big shooters end up...if you get tired of people talking trash, mute them...if you enjoy the game, but think you are a little under experienced, play against bots a lot at first...that helps you learn the objectives and the maps...and will make you A LOT better when playing other humans...
but if anything i think GG has done an excellent job of keeping the better players playing each other...and keeping the newer players playing each other...the most dedicated guys will be invovled in constant clan fights...and the lobby system supports rank filters...so you can matchmake a game with players only at your rank or lower (as well as a lot of other options)...while there is the 'fake account' problem, you'll still be facing off against mostly similar experienced players...everyone will be fine...
Seems like he just posted Killzone 2 in his title to get some notoriety on his article.
4 months prior to the game's release date, thus allowing them to make some Major alterations to the gameplay. Insomniac screwed up this process by holding their beta extremely close to Resistance 2's release date. I felt no difference between the Beta and Final versions.
Developers need to give themselves enough time to learn from their public betas and process/incorporate the huge amount of feedback.
