EA: BioWare Working Towards Mass Effect 2

BioWare is "working towards Mass Effect 2", publisher EA has told VideoGamer.com.

This morning, EA confirmed the game is in the works. A representative said: "They've (BioWare) talked about it being a trilogy. It's no surprise that they are working towards Mass Effect 2."

The news will delight fans of the original Mass Effect, a sci-fi RPG released at the end of 2007 for the Xbox 360 and PC.

Mass Effect will be a 6 month time exclusive for the 360 and then ported to the PC. There's your multiplatform.

And if by an offchance PS3ers do get ME2, well at least you won't have the complete trilogy as MS is the sole publisher of ME1. And this is a linear trilogy. Have fun playing 2/3s of how the game should be played.

JD_Shadow6336d ago (Edited 6336d ago )

Remember that EA published the PC version alone, so we're not really sure who actually HAS the rights there.

Plus, Bioware was really wanting to keep the word "exclusive" out of the mouths of people when it came to ME2. Plus, remember that this is EA now, who loves to do multiplats and right now has some sort of love for the PS3 as the lead developmental console (and them wanting to be worthy to lick PS3 fanboys' boots now).

Personally, I think with all of the lost exclusives the PS3 has had, it kind of deserves to be able to pick off one MS exclusive.

EDIT@1.3 BELOW: Good lord, barlog, you're just hoping it DOESN'T get onto the PS3 and using out there logic to hide your true colors.

Why do you CARE if it does or not that much?

EDIT@1.6: Seriously, dude, how much MORE do you want to dig that hole of yours? Because you got it pretty deep right now!

MORE EDITING@1.6: PC this, PC that! You STILL haven't answered why you care so much if the PS3 were to get this game in any way. It seems as though you're really scared about something. C'mon, man, give it the hell up already! If you want to get ME2, you're going to get it for whatever system of your choice it comes out on. It coming for the PS3 won't hurt you playing the game on your 360. Simple as that. Just means more people will play the game. Stop this PC crap and chess game of who owns what publishing rights, because it's not proving any of your points and it SURE as hell ain't working at all.

mass effect 2 will be PC/PS3 and X360

EA doesnt make exclusive and EA are facing bankruptcy so they cant make exclusives

Mass effect PC was mega flop since most people who wanted it played it on X360. Others werent willing to pay 60$ for a year old game

dude trilogy is not needed since anyone can play it on PC

also ME2 will be 100% PC, PS3 and X360 since many people would buy buy whether on PS3 or X360

It is EA who never makes exlcusives since they cant afford exclusives at times when the company is almost going bankrupt

also EA made most of their revenues from ps3 last 2 quarters

@barlog

ME 2 will be 100% PC/PS3 and X360. all 3 versions will launch at the same time and sell 5 million copies atleast.

EA making exlcusive at times when it is almost bankrupt is like GOD worshipping SATAN

apply common sense ..not fanboyism

lord_of_balrogs6336d ago (Edited 6336d ago )

The PC is a MS platform as well, they gain by letting it get published. You got Bioshock be happy with that.

EDIT: I may be a fanboy for MS but I will own a PS3 soon, 2 months from now to be exact, but ME was a defining exclusive game for the 360 and I hope it stays that way. I'm tired of all those lists that go GOW2, Heavy Rain, Team Ico Project, KZ2, GT5, etc. It's nice to have this exclusive for the other side.

POGfinder6336d ago

except WOW and 1/2 other games

PC gaming is almost gone

in order to make money EA has to bring it to PS3 since PS3 games sell a huge lot in europe

ME2 will be 100% multiplat --PC/PS3 and X360.

mark me on that

vasilisk6336d ago (Edited 6336d ago )

you know that some people also own a PC, don't you?
It's funny cause I don't own a 360 but I played Mass Effect, weird isn't it? I also played Bioshock at the same time you played it on your 360 and you know what? I got the better version. And I will play Alan Wake if it ever gets released and I will also have the better version...
Oh, I also played the first Gears of War without a 360 and I'll probably play the second one sometime this year, isn't that funny? Good luck playing PS3 exclusives without a PS3...

Edit: @lord_of_balrogs
You still don't get it, do you? I have a PC, always had, always will. As long as MS publishes games for the PC, they lose the EXTRA money they could have had from me. The keyword here is "extra" in case you didn't notice...
You also said that PS3 owners will not be able to enjoy the whole trilogy. Wrong again...

lord_of_balrogs6336d ago (Edited 6336d ago )

And how many PS3 users have a computer they can use as a gaming rig? Hell, I don't even have the specs that can play ME on this computer.

EDIT: Epic has stated Gears2 won't be seeing a PC port.

EDIT2: You know why I don't want this on the PS3, well first I can shove it in the PS fanboys faces the way they shove FFVS in mine. And now to play FFVS I'm forced to get a PS3. Makes sense that if they want to play it they should get a 360 or a computer with the specs that can play the game.

JD_Shadow6336d ago (Edited 6336d ago )

So you're pissed because of ONE GAME being PS3 exclusive when your favorite system has been getting exclusive after exclusive from the third parties that were formally PS3 exclusives? You want justice done because you're so sour about one game, when you posted something at http://www.n4g.com/NewsCom-... that says you're getting a PS3 soon anyway, so that just nixes that argument.

After GTA IV, FF13, SO, and Tekken 6, do you REALLY think that you should be whining about ONE game? If that's your only excuse, then you really, REALLY need to stop talking.

Oh, and the way YOU'RE acting, I can't BLAME anyone for owning you with their "lists".

@1.8: You seem to have an answer for EVERYTHING now (and you never seem to quit digging the hole you've got going). You're just pulling facts out of your ass and building strawmen wherever you can (I'm surprised you're not playing the "you guys 'whined' about FF13 going multi, so why can't I whine about ME2 doing it' card yet, though I expect you to before you run out of bubbles...don't worry, that argument is easy for everyone to dispute, too). And you failed (or just don't care) to get the story behind Level 5 and why they went with Sony (and, for now at least, Nintendo), or you would've never brought that into this argument you're manufacturing and everyone is OWNING you on. You just don't care to GET IT!

I was trying to not say it this way, but now I must: For your own sake....SHUT UP!!!

EDIT@1.8's EDIT: *sigh* I really DO hope people see why we're responding the way we are towards this guy! He never quits! AGAIN with the PC stuff! Where does he FIND this info?

lord_of_balrogs6336d ago (Edited 6336d ago )

Well ya, I had to ask for a PS3 if I wanted to play that game + KZ2. Plus its not my fault Sony won't pay for exclusive content or to get games multiplatform. It pays to support MS. Hmm after Bioshock do you think you should be whining, GTA4 was never gonna be a PS3 exclusive originally anyways, not after San Andreas did decently on the original xbox. Furthermore, Bioware has always been pro-xbox and PC, beginning with KOTOR and then ME. I'd rather they stay that way. You'd probably prefer Level 5 to stay pro-PS3.

EDIT @1.9 You do realize that there are some PC gamers who will only play the PC and absolutely refuse to touch consoles both the PS3 and 360 as they consider consoles inferior. There are lots of PC gamers like this. These are the guys who make up the majority of the sales.

vasilisk6336d ago

Don't believe anything you read. Bioshock was also listed as a 360 console exclusive with more official denials of a PS3 version than I can remember. FFXIII was also listed as a PS3 exclusive before going multiplatform. Everybody knows that the PC version of Gears of War 2 is in the works, it's an EPIC game, it's bound to appear on PC.
MS's strategy to release their "exclusives" also on PC is hampering their 360 sales. There's zero chance of someone buying a PC (and thus windows with it) just to play these games, but the gamers who have a decent PC don't have to buy a 360 to play them. That being said, I would buy a 360 just for ME, but I don't need to, I can play the better version on my PC. That equals money that MS will not come out of my pocket to buy a 360. On the other hand there are many games on the PS3 that I cannot play elsewhere and that's why they got my money. This hurts MS more than you think...

Lifendz6336d ago

when DMC4 came on 360 I don't recall you guys complaining about not getting the first installments. Silly fanboy, flaming is for kids.

thenickel6336d ago (Edited 6336d ago )

I see what he is saying and those games you mentioned were not PS3 exclusive to begin with and all started life elsewhere. Now if GOW3 or KZ2 did the swap I could see what your saying but this is not the case. ME started life on 360 just like Bioshock which is a bigger loss for 360 since there new IP's. Microsoft should should of held them down but of course they are as always looking out for themselves and not caring what the gamers feel unfortunately.

Bzone246336d ago

"ME2 will be 100% multiplat --PC/PS3 and X360.

mark me on that"

Remember when you guaranteed that Mass Effect was going to be released on the ps3 fall of last year? Did I miss it being released? You keep saying you were a the lead beta tester or something like that. You were using the lenhart username back then.

Unicron6336d ago

Lord of Balrogs just cemented his fanboy status. Here, let me change some things around...

And if by an offchance 360ers do get MGS4, well at least you won't have the complete quadrilogy. And this is a linear quadrilogy. Have fun playing 1/4s of how the game should be played.

Seriously, grow the hell up.

FarEastOrient6336d ago

I'll definitely have the trilogy now that I have both the PC and Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect. A sidenote is that the PC version is the superior one too with less bugs and popping in effects that I had on the 360.

If EA brings Mass Effect to the PS3, I'll be buying that version first unless Microsoft decides to pay EA to keep it exclusive. Now don't get me wrong, a great deal of money has to be exchanged since EA themselves have a big loss.

I just that universe!

Wanna know my bias, I have stocks in Microsoft (get out of that $20 gutter) and Sony (so cheap its on discount)...

Imagine a port of a 360 game running on the PS3 (back in the early days) using the Unreal Engine... Thats how ME ran on the 360... It was awful

edhe6336d ago

It was poor, but it was still a great game.

If they've cleaned up the engine that's great, bring it.

Strife Lives6336d ago

Was my personal GOTY 2007! What a fantastic game, reminded me of the old Police Quest games with the choices.cannot wait 4 this, just cant.

Lord Vader6336d ago

Absolutely !!!

I still play 'ole Mass Effect. I hope we get either KOTOR III or ME2 in 2009, Bioware's gotta acouple definate AAA games with those two...

i can't stop laughing at the fanboys that believe ME2 will be coming to the ps3 when it won't just because EA is the publisher. if that was the case where is your version of LoTR2 BFME. i mean EA published that but i still don't see it on the ps3. just except the facts that even by the grace of god that the ps3 does get it. that it will be gimped.

@below

it doesn't matter if it came out before the ps3 was released. sonyfan whole arguement is that EA love making multi-pat games to get the most money. where is your copy for the ps3. i think you need to do the research. MS published the first game. ps3 will not get it. making ME2 for the ps3 would be gimping the story and the events that already took place based off the decisions that were made in the first game. stop being an @ss ok.

JD_Shadow6336d ago (Edited 6336d ago )

And LoTR2 came out BEFORE the PS3 was even released.

A little bit of a difference there.

EDIT@THE DISAGREE(S): Go look it up on Wiki. It was released July 2006 on the 360, BEFORE the PS3 came out, and the game IS on the PC, as well. Do some research.

POGfinder6336d ago

EA doesnt make exclusives

also EA is not in a position to make exclsives since they arer facing bankruptcy and are even planning to close to most of their studios

In order to survive EA has to produce games multiplat and definitely for PS3 since thats where they make most of their money from

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine528d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast528d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman528d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan776d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave776d ago (Edited 776d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
