Video games expected to evolve in 2009

Don't hit that pause button just yet. Despite the tanking economy and an increasing number of video game-industry layoffs, many believe 2009 will be a year of evolution for games. The combination of innovative new titles, long-awaited franchise follow-ups and desire for escapism could spawn a gaming renaissance.

Fox News?

What a nice article, it has not bias what so ever.

how rare

Aaron Greenterd6342d ago (Edited 6342d ago )

Absolutely, how rare. I must get Fox News on the payroll and change this immediately.

Let me address all the people who I just upset with that statement. Over the past 20 days or so, since I started my Fanboy Outreach Campaign linK (or F.O.C.K), I've had many people asking me to prove that I have payed off the media. Well, I guess my word isn't good enough, so I will try to address those concerns now.

It is a well documented fact the my company's Xbox 360 has the highest failure rate of a consumer device in the history of the World. Not only that, but news has come to light, that the remaining consoles that still work, scratch game discs to where they will no longer function. These are facts that aren't up for debate.

In order to avoid a federally mandated recall, congressional hearings, oversight committees, new consumer protection laws, anti-trust lawsuits, and a flurry of other legal problems, we at Microsoft decided to pay Viacom $500 million dollars to "help the media to see things our way". I mean, let's be honest, if this were the Sony Playstation 3 or the Nintendo Wii, Americans would have embargoed any devices from those 2 companies from selling anywhere near the United States. Not 1 single mainstream news outlet has ever reported on the Xbox 360s hardware problems. Not CNN, not Fox, not NBC, or CBS, or ABC. No one.

Sure, We gave them a 3 year warranty period, yet this only applied to those customers who could produce a receipt. This didn't help the people that had already purchased a new Xbox 360 in the 2 years we denied the problem existed. Also, this warranty only applied to the 3 rings of Death, not any other console failure problem, of which there were many. We forced them to the internet, to the mercy of other Xbox 360 owners, who invalidated their claims that a problem existed. We also used the failed Xbox 360s that were returned to us towards our total US and Worldwide sales numbers (so twice), which actually is helping us in our fight for 2nd place with Sony. Little did we know we could screw the customer AND help ourselves at the same time.

But what happened to us? Nothing. Yeah it cost us some money; like we care about money. The only thing we care about is being #1. We forced consumers to get so upset about the quality of our product, that we made them spend their time and money forming class action lawsuits. Even if these lawsuits are successful, consumers will only get piece-meal in comparison to what they deserve, and we will have avoided a likely product-line ending recall. The only reason why the Xbox division is still in business is because we avoided a media backlash, and now are stealth deploying the good Xbox 360s randomly to retailers.

What this has done, is given other media outlets, besides the ones we have Distribution Agreements with (Variety, Metacritic, Gamespot, MTV, etc...), the feeling that we can do no wrong. In order to protect my company's products, they keep the spotlight on Sony. Whether this is of their own volition, or an actual black and white agreement, nobody will ever know. The very simple fact is that my company is given a free ride by the media, and it continues to this day, while my followers blindly believe that Sony deserves some kind of punishment for giving gamers a quality product, with better games and better graphics.

We at Microsoft thank you, the writers, authors, reviewers, and readers, for giving us a pass, and being critical of other, better, and higher quality products that don't deserve the scrutiny. And to those who think there is no bias, and think we have nothing to do with the media, we would invite you to send us your email addresses so we can provide you with the latest high quality services from Microsoft.

Respectfully,

Aaron Greenberg

Sorry, but essays are just pushing the joke too far...

On a serious note, having not read the damn article - thanks to SOMEONE - its hard to wonder how two out of the three current players are going to evolve the industry when one is still using DVD9, literally included HDMI as an afterthought and otherwise doesn't have a standardized install base.

The other was brought to DVDs kicking and screaming, put waggle over any other "innovation" and really isn't worth mentioning in the same breath as the other two. Even though it is outselling them.

Aaron Greenterd6342d ago

What joke would that be?

I didn't realize there were rules against speaking the truth here.

However now if someone argues with me about media bias, I can point them to my comment so I don't have to be redundant.

And just because you are a Sony fanboy, doesn't mean I will agree with you or you should agree with me. I will try to provide humor, however in order to remain presentable, I have to provide some evidence as to why I see things the way I do, and I also have to be fair sometimes.

Those who read all my comments know what I am talking about. I will say that we absolutely need Microsoft and the Xbox line of products in Video games. They push Sony and Sony push them. However this "looking away" of the media has to stop, or at least they need to start acknowledging the good things about Sony and the ps3.

The media, nor Microsoft, can stop what's coming, so everyone better get on board or get run over.

@ this point I think it's fair to say, you should consider writing a book. Damn your comments are long. I mean you do occasionally give me a chuckle or two but damn....lol

pswi606342d ago (Edited 6342d ago )

some good points

Aaron Greenterd6342d ago

I know man. You didn't have to read it though.

I am going to take a break from trolling. I've got BioShock and Gears 2 to finish, among others, and I've recently started playing Halo 3 again.

I know my posts have gotten longer, and they aren't the funny, witty type one or two liners that I started with, but that gets old for me. I'm not some brainless jerk that is going to constantly throw out fodder for you guys; there are real ideas behind what I do, and since I have everyone's attention I want them to see what those ideas are.

There is no bad gamer, but there are bad companies.

I don't care if you are a 360 fanboy, but don't let it cloud your judgment about what else is good in the world of gaming.

I'll be back before the release of Killzone 2. If things go well, I may not be back at all. Peace.

I know one thing that will evolve, the First Person Shooter genre, starting February 27.

steck676342d ago

Only on the Playstation 3.

Helghast6342d ago

All Sony needs to do is advertise and it will do great! If people don't know something exists, they won't buy it!.

These are the ads they need to do:

1) An ad the CLEARLY STATES that "The following is all in-game footage" and then shows the AMAZING KZ2 gameplay with incredible graphics. Sony has to make sure the audience know that it's actual gameplay and NOT CGI/cutscene.

2) Reviewer quotes like "The most visually stunning shooter" -[gamesite X] "Raises the bar on first person shooters" etc.

3) Get the name out there! "Brought to you by KillZone 2, ONLY on PlayStation 3" stuff like that.

There's that really cool R2 trailer that had review quotes like "Raises the bar on FPS boss battles" - GameInformer and "Better than Halo, bigger than Call of Duty" - GamePro. The problem with that trailer was that it was only on PSN and videogame websites like GameTrailers but NOT on TV! Hardcore gamers that have a PS3/PSN and visit videogame websites already know about R2 and KillZone 2, Sony needs to tell the general public!

Godmars2906342d ago

But not one word about LBP.

Godmars2906342d ago

Are they coming out this year?

MURKERR6342d ago (Edited 6342d ago )

...3 D EDITIONS,but its all good i dont think you were trolling i apologise for saying that

The gaming GOD6342d ago

This is fox news we're talking about after all. So what Motorstorm was and Wipeout HD was mention yet LBP wasn't.

Unless you actually take fox news of all places seriously for your video game information.

SlippyMadFrog6342d ago

You guys should stop mentioning Kodu and LBP in the same sentance, they are totally different. LBP is a platformer with a very deep level editor while Kodu is a visual programming language. Kodu is not a game.
