Microsoft Prevents Multiplatform 3rd Party Controllers From Being a Reality

www.pushingplay.com writes "The Xbox360, the Playstation 3 and the Wii all have USB ports, so why can't a company like MadCatz create a controller that would work on all three? They've done it in the past, creating a Racing Wheel that would connect to a PS2, PS1, Xbox and GameCube, despite only two of them having the same controller port. When all three major consoles share a non-proprietary input, it makes no sense that MadCatz would have to release two practically identical versions of their Street Fighter IV FightStick. GameCyte interviewed Mad Catz' Alex Verrey, and he placed the blame on Microsoft."

pretty much...not surprised at all..

wil4hire6316d ago

They run a business. If consumers dont care, why shouldn't MS benefit? They want to make $ folks. I dont see a sea of complaints outside of people complaining FOR XBLA owners.

Just drop it.

Raoh6316d ago

your missing the point that multi console owners dont want to get raped at the stores. a multi console controller/arcade stick would be ideal.

this is why it costs $99 for a 60 xbox hard drive and $104 for a 500gb ps3 drive.

elorm96316d ago

Why not have Madkatz pay to get some sort of license then or at least share a cut of the profit?

wil4hire6316d ago (Edited 6316d ago )

You aren't. Its a choice. When you buy a 360, you choose to pay more for HDD's, or you choose to accept that you have to buy 2x steeringwheel/joystick/whateve r One for the 360, and one for the PS3/Wii(since they both use usb as well for most aftermarket wares). You choose to pay for free online play, i mean come on.

You dont have to do anything. If you don't want to get nickel and dimed on peripherals, don't buy a 360, simple as that.

Last time I checked, you still choose to own multiple consoles. And Microsoft chooses to not to make it easy for you to use products for non-360-entertainment. I'm just saying I dont see where MS is at fault here, especially when its very much so common knowledge that they do these things. UT3 on the 360 is a perfect example of that.

Its no revelation. Its getting on par with the "SONY IZ DOOMED" articles. How many more can point out that MS charges for stuff?

Makes no sense... Capcoms last anniversary stick was PS2 AND Xbox compatible.. Besides that microsoft charges to much for controller licensing fees. This is the reason why hori's joysticks are $10 more on the 360.. Also madcatz fight pad is wireless for the PS3 version and wired for the 360 version.. word on the street is that if madcatz made the 360 pad wireless it would have been in the $100 range..

DaTruth6316d ago

But, actually it's not common knowledge unless you hang out at N4G which 99.99999% of the people don't. It sucks to pay for a cheap system just to find out later it is really more expensive. It is deceptive and it's just not good business. This is the reason the global economy is screwed up, cause everyone is trying to d!ck over everyone else for money.

reason why microsoft is gay. Every attempt at total control, even if it inconveniences the rest of the entire free world! LOL

Anyone that owns multiple consoles (especially Guitar Hero and Rock Band players), would greatly appreciate being able to use a racing wheel, arcade stick, or guitar controller with any of their consoles.

I can understand a hardware maker wanting to keep the wireless controllers to themselves, but PLEASE start allowing third-party controller makers to make universal USB controllers.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing8h ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster929h ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit9h ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing8h ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster927h ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
