Could it indicate a rebrand maybe since Microsoft loves rebranding stuff.

However one of the core reasons the Xbox team were against calling the system the Microsoft Xbox was because it was lame as they said in their retrospective also the marketing team had some really bad naming suggestions. I think that opinion is still valid Microsoft gamepass sucks as a name I think windows office and worse of all excel not games outside of flight simulator

If the only way people will be able to play gears of war on ps5 is by subscribing to gamepass I think it could be a bit of a waste of time. You’ll get people signing up briefly to play anything in the catalogue they feel they’ve missed out on (which won’t be the everything and certainly won’t have heavy hitters day one) then sacking it off. Gamepass and psplus out do and one up each other frequently at this point, I use both intermittently but only subscribe to one at a time. Overwhelmingly that tends to be psplus most regularly.

Is signing up to another sub to play gears, forza, halo, redfall and Starfield? From experience of each, I can say no, it’s absolutely not.

All Microsoft cares about are subscriptions, the money... subscriptions to Gamepass or whatever they change the name to. Microsoft does not care about the games or gaming, its the just subscriptions fees. Microsoft has worked out that this is where the easy money is. Lock people in paying forever.

You have to understand that there are contracts between Microsoft and all the game makers. Those would all have to be redone and they'd have to pay a shit ton of money. If they paid 10 million to a company to get a game on Xbox... they'd have to pay another 30 million to allow it on Playstation.

So what? You think they're gonna put Game Pass on PS5 and Switch? I don't think they want to drop the Xbox brand, that would be stupid. Microsoft Game Studios? No, they're better off keeping the Xbox brand. I still don't see what this has to do with anything. Even if they go third-party next week, which if they're going through all of this effort to put it off to next week, that means they need to lay the foundation for this otherwise Phil Spencer wouldve flat out dispelled the rumors.

The other option is they see this as great marketing to build the name and jazz up anticipation and they'll announce their mid-gen console to try and beat Sony too it

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
