A new game that already needs more than 50 mods to be good...yeah let that sink in.

Murdability788d ago

Heyyy don’t be mean. It might be at 1.0 soon lol

raWfodog788d ago (Edited 788d ago )

Bethesda should hire this modder lol.

Nah, scratch that. They'll probably lose their motivation and creativity if they have to work under Microsoft.

There's been some revisionism discourse about Starfield that when it was first released its reviews suffered from the 'Xbox tax,' the perceived negative coverage of it by the games media and public angry that it was not getting a release on PlayStation. And now that it is being released on PS5 is the reason so many on enthusiastic about it - however, that's not exactly what happened is it!

When Starfield was first released the game did receive negative coverage - but this was from predominantly Xbox websites and Xbox-focused content creators who felt the game did not deliver on what was advertised. Mr Matty Plays made his channel and his name covering Bethesda games on Xbox and he was one of many who felt deflated after playing the game and was critical of it.

When you've got Bethesda itself and its studio head Todd Head acknowledge the issues then claims of an 'Xbox tax' are juvenile! To address the issues that Xbox and PC players had is why the Free Lanes update has been built. Now original players who got to play it when it first released and who want to play it again can with the improvements, and new PS5 players can play the optimised and improved version complete with the PS5 features added. Everybody wins.

While yes, negative coverage did come from XB sites/creators... it was also heavily perpetuated by PS fans who were upset about the situation, and embellished the poor reception even more...... It happens.

What also happens is those who are initially upset at the lack of a release will also change their tune when it finally does come to fruition. We will see once the game releases, and in a much better state thanks to more time to fix and refine.

Everything deserves a second chance, if people are open to giving it.

Main audience criticising Starfield was PC players and people who were already critical of Bethesda's direction.

TheColbertinator4h ago

Played it on PC and the Steam Bethesda fans were not happy about Starfield all across the board. While we forgave Skyrim and Fallout 4 for some detractions from the core qualities of the historic franchises, Starfield showed up with a shallow design blueprint from the get go. The ship customization was brilliant but every other important aspect of an RPG felt indecisive, rushed or just plain absent (mini-map omission as a particular example) in Starfield.

Years of updates have now come and gone, the game has improved but the opportunity that Bethesda had to lead the RPG world forward is not in Starfield because the fundamental issues and expectations and fulfillments are worlds apart.

The second chance and third chance and fourth chance have been given already. The gaming world moves on with or without Starfield.

I'm a ps5 player who played it on gamepass in the month of release. Was let down, but will probably buy again on ps5 to try out the freelanes update eventually, because I'm stupid that way.

GamerRN12h ago

Yeah that does sound like a pretty stupid reason to be buying it especially after having already played it...

So weird the way people explain their purchase to still spread hate on it

pwnmaster30004h ago

@GamerRN
Why you hating?
The game was shit At launch deal with it.
I’m doing the same thing to is that a problem?

🤣 obscured is proudly supporting a FORMER EXCLUSIVE going to PlayStation ad doing well as we knew would before Microsoft bought it 🤣, he dream of Microsoft games becoming exclusive once again after the investors tasted the 3RD PARTY massive money push 🤣.

dveio18h ago

After Death Stranding 2, Metal Gear Solid Delta and Ghost of Yōtei been covering my past 9 months taking my time in extended playthroughs, Starfield for me personally doesn't come at the right point in time anymore. 2026 is packed.

Second of all, since Bethesda developed it multiplatform, then it got bought, then it went exclusive, then it failed to accelerate Xbox, then Microsoft pulled the plug and are now asking for money - I renounce gladly. I actually always do with Microsoft products.

I applaud Bethesda for enhancing the game on PS5, and a bit further on PS5 Pro. But I have my principles regarding Microsoft.

jznrpg11h ago

I’d buy it used someday a couple years from now but that’s about it. That’s for all of MS games

This game looks old engine wise, the models are ancient.

A new line of collectible figures for Starfield has been announced.

ase41321d 20h ago (Edited 1d 20h ago )

Im glad they are promoting. Its a very telling game and i felt it was covered up for being so..

darthv721d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

I can see paying maybe $30 for all three... but not each. Or $45 in the case of the terrormorph.

No thank you.

It’s a BIG one.

Base Game: 123.347 GB (version 01.000.001)
Shattered Space : 12.502 GB
Terran Armada : 4.017 GB

raWfodog6d ago

I’m interested to see if they’ve shortened loading screens at all. I’m sure someone will do some type of analysis on that.

Putte5d ago

They have not changed anything in that direction. Still a horrendous loading mess.

Iceball20007d ago

Wow so they did t optimize this game at all then for the PS5. What was that storage feature has forget what it’s called.

The_Hooligan7d ago

I think it was called the kraken or something. From what I recall the compression feature was for disc games only and benefited from PS5 SSD, but I could be wrong.

Charal7d ago

Does waste your precious GB for this one, one of the biggest disappointment in recent gaming history to my opinion.

TriniOutsider6d ago

I legit don't know who some of the people think you are. If people wanna get the game, they'll get it and there's nothing you can do.

The game was one of the highest pre-ordered games on the PlayStation Store as well.

Charal4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Game is crap anyway

jznrpg6d ago

I don’t buy games that aren’t on disc for more than 20$. I’ll wait however many years for it to drop or be on PS Plus. Plenty of other games to play.
