The choice in question is quite straightforward: Do you want to create a singleplayer world or a multiplayer world? If someone need to "search" online for the correct answer to this question, they probably have much more severe issues that need to be adressed.
It sucks that you even have to make this choice, I can theorise why, and it makes sense, but you might as well just choose multi-player from the start and then you can add your friends later (I hope).
