uncompressed with no doubt decryption/emulator attached.

nvm I read it wrong

Makes you realize how important that Kraken hardware decompressor in PS5 really is...

KaoticBrock730d ago

Kraken Decomprssor isn't Sony's or exclusive to the PS5. Epic Games bought it from RAD a couple years ago.

just_looken730d ago

@Brock

Shhh this is n4g sony created man and all we hold dear in gaming remember /s

But yeah not new tech and another reason why epic is rich.

Its also funny how the ps4/ps5 uses freebsd another thing they did not make

Man i miss the ps3 era sony there own os most of the hardware original idea leading tech.

outsider1624730d ago

@kaotic @looken
Where did frosty say in his comment that kraken is exclusive. He said kraken is important in ps5. Lol you guys looking to create a fanboy war when there is none.

frostypants730d ago (Edited 730d ago )

@KaoticBrock where did he even imply it was exclusive? Wtf...this site...

fr0sty730d ago

As others have pointed out, you're trying to drag the goal posts onto another field just to create a debate where there is none...

However, PS5 is the only console that features hardware Kraken compressors/decompressors, even if used in PCs it must be done via software on the CPU or GPU, taking resources away from those. So, even the argument you're trying to create here is dead from the start.

Neonridr730d ago

I think the point was that since Kraken isn't exclusive to PS5, PC titles could utilize it if they so desired.

But with the limited space of the PS5 internal HD, it is absolutely super important to utilize tech like this to limit the amount of space taken up.

Christopher730d ago (Edited 730d ago )

@KaoticBrock: No one said it was, but we had to jump in to just get that out?

@just_looken: " Man i miss the ps3 era sony there own os most of the hardware original idea leading tech. "

I too miss when the trillion/billion dollar software companies didn't buy out and own the mass majority of tech IPs aimed at squeezing out new ideas via the legal system if anyone dared create anything similar.

fr0sty729d ago

Neon, that may be the point, but my point is they must do so in software, there is no hardware decompressors available for kraken on PC, and PS5 is the only console that has it.

Furesis731d ago

That's wild. I wonder if they'll get in trouble for this.

ocelot07731d ago

If they get caught. Of course they will they have just released Sony's most important release of 2023 for free.

just_looken731d ago

Of course they will but this shows how easy it is to port ps5 to pc.

frostypants730d ago (Edited 730d ago )

It's all x86. Not that wild.

Neonridr730d ago

PCs and consoles share the same architecture now. Porting is easier than ever now.

VariantAEC730d ago

It's easy when you have the game's source code. Not so easy when you don't.

Incoming DMCA Takedown notice, this is similar to Wolverine on PC, anyone trying to play will most likely be in quite big trouble for downloading it.

Asplundh731d ago

"anyone trying to play will most likely be in quite big trouble for downloading it."

Yeah right. They may go after the people releasing it but rarely they do anything to the people who download pirated games, the most that will happen is their internet provider will send them a strike notice.

TheCaptainKuchiki730d ago

My ISP did that once when I was a teen lmaooooooo

XiNatsuDragnel730d ago

Not really they can't get you trouble once you have it unless pc auto deletes the file for you

mooreneco21730d ago

Little naive to believe that. In most countries piracy is a crime so yep they can get you as it is digital theft

XiNatsuDragnel730d ago

Nah bro that's not naive ppl vpn download ppl download it off discord you can't arrested it you're ignorant to the world of piracy

ChasterMies731d ago

“unofficial port” aka blatant copyright infringement

TheColbertinator731d ago

This is amazing. Thanks for the "free" copy, Sony.

mkis007731d ago

I mean if you want to play without all the shaders and collision working as intended go right ahead? Have fun with that insane size too.

Neonridr730d ago

PC users aren't concerned with harddrive sizes as console users are.

mkis007729d ago

Playing a partial game would annoy me, knowing its coming out eventually anyway.

A noticeable improvement over the Steam Deck, but those reflections are hilarious. You're definitely paying for better quality with that hefty price tag. I do like that density isn't really affected by quality, though.

darthv7292d ago

For the performance they were going for, increasing the reflections would not have been viable. The deck and rog can certainly be taken further into the quality mode, but obviously performance takes a huge hit..... but it does look good on a little screen.

shadowT92d ago

Yes, it runs somehow in low graphic resolution and with very limited effects. $1000 for this quality?

drivxr92d ago (Edited 92d ago )

Looks impressive for a handheld that lets you play anywhere other than a living room or a desk.

XBManiac92d ago

It works best with Steam OS, so don't despair.
