They just spent 70 Billion on the largest plublisher in the game, anyone who thinks that they're going completely 3rd party any time soon doesn't have much common sense.

Microsoft won’t get its $70B + ongoing development costs on just Xbox and PC.

Asplundh855d ago (Edited 855d ago )

Keywords "Completely 3rd party", they need games to push GamePass and didn't you guys say something similar about them buying Bethesda? 🤔

TiredGamer855d ago (Edited 855d ago )

The only way that $70B purchase makes common sense, given that MS has self admitted no interest in competing in the hardware race, is if it becomes a third party publisher.

MS’ likely strategy going forward will be to try to grow Gamepass with initial exclusivity, but then publishing on other platforms once that early access is over. That way they can harvest maximum profit from each title.

This is similar to Sony’s approach. First on PlayStation, but then once the demand has dropped off (a year or more), publish on PC.

They still have interest in hardware, the only reason they're saying that they don't is because they're last place. Hi-fi Rush is getting rated for other systems and if you noticed it got rated for the PS4 and not the PS5, if they weren't competing for hardware why is it not coming to the PS5?

They have yet to put an existing big name game from Bethesda or ActiBlizz on the service, If they end up achieving their desired numbers then I can see them keeping the bigger games to themselves indefinitely to grow GamePass, if not and GamePass fails then they will go completely 3rd party.

TiredGamer854d ago

They make it for PS4 because money. The largest installed base plus the PS5 is backwards compatible. If you are going to pick one PlayStation platform, PS4 is the smartest choice for profitability as you will capture the entire Sony market.

No, Phil told you 2027.

Hopefully it's the one thing he's not lying about.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing15d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit15d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing15d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
