Baldur's Gate 3 Developer Expects Microsoft to Solve Xbox Save Bug With Firmware Update Next Week

Baldur's Gate 3 players on Xbox have been suffering from a nasty bug that causes save game loss. Larian is confident that a firmware update coming next week will fix it.

porkChop889d ago

That's good news. I'm very curious as to why the firmware was causing a save issue in this one specific game though.

NotoriousWhiz889d ago

There were a handful of other games as well. Seemed to specifically affect games with large save files.

porkChop889d ago

What other games? I hadn't heard about this issue until BG3.

NotoriousWhiz889d ago

I don't remember which other games. They definitely weren't popular games like BG3.

The thing that's going unsaid is this has been an issue from day one of the console that effects numerous games that Microsoft I guess didn't even care about until a game big enough to get publicity came along.

Here is the first reply, you can find more examples on your own, lost save games ralted to quick resume are fairly common. This is also the issue with BG3 from what I have read.

Not long after it launched Immortals: Fenyx Rising actually had a pretty nasty save file deleting bug that triggered when using quick resume. It seems to have since been patched, but I've had additional problems with that game and quick resume, specifically that the online UPlay stuff (challenges/bounties and the in-game store) would be broken and inaccessible until the game was restarted.

So the bug with BG3, among other games is with the console itself? Strange. I have yet to encounter anything like this. But I’m glad they’re working on it. It must be super rare.

porkChop888d ago

Those are games that had to be updated to work properly with Quick Resume. That's not what's going on here. The firmware of the console itself has to be updated, not BG3.

The BG3 issue isn't about Quick Resume either. The save notification goes away indicating the game has finished saving, but sometimes it's actually still in the process of being saved. If you turn off your console and the save hasn't finished your save file is now corrupted.

Einhander1972888d ago

No, if you read about the issue you'll see that people still had problems with the game, and Immortals: Fenyx Rising isn't an isolated case.

You can read about numerous games that have similar problems, this isn't a new issue.

Oooof. I have very little hope for this with how badly they screwed up Season 2. I loved and re-watched the first season of The Las of Us 4-5 times now. Only watched season 2 once and will not be watching Season 3 unless I'm very bored. The fact that Larian isn't involved is also another red flag.

TLOU show creator…oh God

There’s a reason why the show went from “Season 4 and possibly beyond” to “it might end at Season 3”

Daeloki130d ago

I mean regardless of who's making it, there's simply no hope for it.
A) Larian is not involved. This is gonna be pure Hasbro greed.
B) It's a game that largely revolves around player choice, with tons of outcomes and replayability. There is no single canon to translate into a show.
C) It's a high fantasy setting, with spectacular visuals that are going to be very expensive, and also very difficult to get to look actually good in live action.

Only potential they have is if they lean into campiness, make it vibe like old 90's, early 2000's fantasy shows like Xena, Mystic Knights etc. Less epic and more failed skill checks, "wrong" choices.

dmonee130d ago

From what I have read, The Last of Us season 2 woes, was because of Neil Druckman. I have hope for season 3 now that he is out if the equation. I have hope for BG live action show. Its also being worked in by the team that did Chernobyl.

Shaky Relationship meaning Hasbro wanted an even larger cut of the pie moving forward. Also why we're not getting BG4 w/Larian. Hasbro just wanted to bleed them dry.

Michiel1989157d ago

no im pretty sure it was related to the people from hasbro that helped with the game getting fired or that only the people from Larian were eligible for bonusses and Larian didn't fuck with that

Christopher156d ago

The people from Hasbro were fired by Hasbro. Why would non-workers on a game get bonuses for not having worked on the game (meaning anyone at Hasbro)?

repsahj157d ago (Edited 157d ago )

Because they are busy for the next Divinity game on Switch 2. Fine by me because I already have BG3 on my PS5, and believe me or not, I didn't finish it. Considering I bought the Deluxe edition to play it ahead of everyone. XD

gigoran8157d ago

if this were able to run on the switch 2, then theoretically the PS4 pro should be able to as well. can't wait for that port

Neonridr156d ago (Edited 156d ago )

you do realize that in terms of numbers it might be on par with a PS4 Pro. However, GPU wise, it has a much larger feature set available to it. The PS4 Pro couldn't even run FSR natively.

Terry_B156d ago

Yeah..I doubt BG3 would run well on the Switch 2.
