I've been following this for a while, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this does in a world of AMD-powered handheld gaming PCs.

franwex737d ago

Same. I’ll be observing too. My guess is that most games would be optimized for AMD. But let’s see what happens. More options is always better.

cammers1995737d ago

Meh I'll stick to my steam deck. All these copycats popped up. Ew

ocelot07737d ago

As much as I love the steam deck. GPD where doing handheld pc consoles for a few years and where fairly good.

Valve simply made handheld pc gaming cool on name online.

Inverno737d ago

Well they also made it affordable, cause those GPD handhelds were in the thousands when I first saw em years back. I'd also argue that Linux, and steam os is a better alternative to having windows. The ease of a console like experience with the option of a more traditional PC os with a lot of user made apps is pretty great.

ocelot07737d ago

@inverno

I 100% agree with you. I love how far Linux has came in the last few years when it comes to gaming. I really hope we get to the point where all future games have a Linux version. I would gladly ditch windows at that point.

SegaSaturn669737d ago

I love my steamdeck but there are times when I need to hop onto windows.

I beat banner saga 1 and the moving the data is a bit more complicated via SD.

So I installed BS1+2 on Windows PC, then the savedata auto transferred to deck.

I'd love a device that could boot steamos and win

ocelot07737d ago

You can dualboot windows and steam os on steam deck you can even do that on a desktop/laptop.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH737d ago

I’ll stick with my ROG it does everything I need and more.

shadowhaxor735d ago

I just wished that the ROG Ally had a bigger screen. Also, how is someone going to downvote someone, simply because they said they were happy with their purchase?

Madness.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH735d ago

It’s N4G you can be downvoted just for saying good morning.

Gabe is laughing all the way to the bank.

Good-Smurf736d ago

All Intel PC still have a lot to prove.
And It would be funny that if it finally hit its stride with Handheld gaming PC instead on Desktop.
MSI obvioisly have to priced this right or it could fail as it doesn't have AMD safe cushion to fall back to.
Buying into All Intel hardware is a still big ask and high risk investment to many people.

shadowhaxor735d ago

This. Intel is the newcomer to the scene, and this new SoC has many eyes on it .Hardware-wise, it does have a leg up on the current AMD SoCs we see in most handhelds. XeSS is definitely better than AMD's FSR tech.

It's going to be interesting.

As for the Steam Deck, it's most definitely a win the Valve needed, seeing how it fell flat on its face when it tried to pitch SteamOS so many years ago. Does anyone remember the Steam Machines? Eh... what a time.

DLSS 3.8 vs 4.0 vs 4.5: Ultra Performance as Good as Native 4K

NVIDIA rolled out the DLSS 4.5 update at CES last week, adding 2nd Gen Transformer-based Super Resolution technology for all RTX GPUs. The performance scaling varies wildly across the older (RTX 20/RTX 30) and newer (RTX 40/RTX 50) GeForce RTX lineups. We tested NVIDIA’s next-gen upscaling solution across Cyberpunk 2077, Black Myth: Wukong, Oblivion Remastered, and KCD 2.

I've been surprised by this, the difference between 4 and 4.5 is very noticeable. It's almost completely or has removed that weird dark ghosting that you'd get in foggy games like Silent Hill 2... and Cyberpunk mixed with a high res texture pack is jaw dropping in ultra 4k.

Also if anyone doesn't know I recommend DLSS swapper, it allows you to inject the latest DLSS version into older games.

batiti932d ago

totally useless since NVIDIA app release last year... It does force latest DLSS to global settings if you ask the app to do so.

MrDead2d ago

The NVidia app doesn't let you choose which version of, DLSS Frame Gen and DLSS Ray Reconstruction like DLSS Swapper does.

Goodguy013d ago

Quite amazing. But, this does probably mean devs will depend on ai even more for their supposed optimizations lol.

Neonridr3d ago

no offense to AMD, but this sort of stuff shows that they are always going to be playing catchup. I guess Nintendo can take advantage of some of these features.

badz1492d ago

With the Switch 2? NVidia can easily lock their proprietary tech to their latest GPUs and the Switch 2 will be stuck on 3.5 for 5 more years at least

Neonridr2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

4 and 4.5 are available on 2 and 3 series cards right now. The Switch GPU is based on 3 series architecture, meaning it has access to some of those features. Obviously not as much as the higher end cards, but still some.

"Better than native."

Native 4K in nearly all games nowadays is actually native resolution with forced temporal anti-aliasing.

TAA smears and blurs frames together to soften jagged edges.

Of course DLSS makes games look "better than native" because native alone without any competent AA methods makes games look horrible.
