Poor Hogwarts Legacy Performance Proves Switch 2 Is Needed, ASAP

The Nerd Stash: "The lead-up to the Switch successor console has been particularly aggravating for fans, though, as they continue to feel like a new console with updated specs is necessary in the face of the Switch’s poor performance with current-gen titles. There are very few cases of this being better exemplified than with the recent Switch port of Hogwarts Legacy."

It's not even poor performance the graphics just aren't as good as far as I know.

Performance is solid, it keeps the 30 fps for the majority of the experience, dipping a bit in cutscenes and during more intense combat. Visually speaking the game is also fine, it's definitely a more limited experience and some of the low textures remind me of the X360 games. But, again this is the Switch we are talking about and with this context, this version does quite have a "handheld charm". The only real loss that I would say comes with this version is in the immersion. Some points of the map like Hogsmeade and the stores are now behind a loading screen instead of seamlessly integrated into the world.

That said, the article's point is overall valid. Companies will struggle more and more to bring their multiples to the Switch. But on the other hand, Hogwarts Legacy proves that it is completely possible given enough time and care.

I want a switch 2 as much as the next person but it's not hogwarts it's the lower year on year sales that should be telling Nintendo it's time by now imo

Profchaos903d ago

Exactly they have made some smart cuts and the game performs excellent with some drops but nothing horrible

dRanzer903d ago

Are you for real?

See DF video and then come back

Profchaos903d ago

But the sales numbers are actually quite healthy for the switch this year bringing total sales to 129.53 million.

Next Switch will be like Series S, bare minimum graphics for demanding third party titles and locked 30fps.

Nintendo just needs plenty of first party games that look good & run well, with plenty of content.

Third party should be left unless the game can look decent and run well.

Lionsguard903d ago

Knowing Nintendo, the Switch 2 will be just as underpowered and you'll have to rebuy all your games.

blackblades903d ago

It proves those Nintendo people should have a 2nd console either Xbox or PS or steam deck for these 3rd party games. It'll solve that problem.

Nintendo adopting Microsoft's strategy after their most successful system to date wouldn't be very smart

SonOfOsiris900d ago

Lol steam deck, a copy cat switch system

Chocoburger903d ago

We've known well before the release of Hogwarts Legacy that Nintendo has needed release a Switch 2. This is extremely old news.

I got mine just 5$ for switch 1 version and 5$ for switch 2 upgrade! Very beautiful game.

Man I hope they emphasize the school aspect and minimize the open world Ubisoft-ness of the first game. Open world is fine but it felt like every other game when I left the school.

Hogwarts Legacy Passes 40 Million Units Sold

This is interesting considering they canned the planned DLC and Netflix said they did not even consider the gaming division an asset when evaluating the company.

Remember all the websites that tried to cancel the game? It triggered the games media so much many refused to review it (Eurogamer + many more), or they they low-scored the game not because of its quality but because of the trans issues (The Guardian.) They to alienate the public to such a degree that it backfired and it lost them the trust of their readers. How many have had layoffs or gone to the wall since then? Kotaku, Polygon, Eurogamer, GamesIndustry.biz, Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247, etc. They didn't listen to their audience and they thought that their voices were enough to kill public demand - it wasn't. Hogwarts Legacy launched and delivered a bona fide adventure in the Harry Potter universe. This game demonstrates in the best way that publishers shouldn't listen to the games media, or advocacy groups, or online campaigns - just give the players the game that they want. Hogwarts Legacy could get to 50 million.
