World of Warcraft dev hints that MMO could be coming to consoles

Holly Longdale, vice president and executive producer of World of Warcraft has hinted that Blizzard Entertainment is considering bringing the MMO to consoles.

In an interview with our sister publication GamesRadar, Longdale was asked whether or not a console version of the game interested the developers at Blizzard, to which she responded: "Of course! Yeah, we talk about it all the time."

GamesRadar went on to ask Longdale if she felt that Blizzard could overcome the technical hurdles that would be involved in such a transition for the MMO. "Well, it depends on who you ask," she replied. "Frankly, I think we're pretty well positioned, which is kind of why we talk about it."

Released back in 2004, World of Warcraft has traditionally been confined to PC and MacOS. However, since being acquired by Microsoft, doors have opened for Blizzard when it comes to Xbox-centric resources and expertise. World of Warcraft on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One would certainly mark a new era for the game.

I would be extremely surprised if it didn't. It was already a no-brainer before and it's even more now that Microsoft's bought Blizzard.

OneLove801d ago

Been saying this for a long time now.

If WoW would come to consoles there is a high chance we will get new engine finally for WoW, there is no way they will port WoW to consoles with this old crappy game engine.

andy85801d ago

You overestimate Microsoft I think 😂

shaenoide800d ago

Redfall ? Halo Infinite ?

To be clear about Halo Infinite I am only talking about crappy engine not the overall quality.

I wonder how anyone will get the adons you need for wow retail now onto console such as DBM, Recount,Gtfo and all the weak auras. I really don't see that happening unless they make some kind of dumped down version like vanilla wow but somehow easier and more basic

TwistedXenos800d ago

They can just ban addons all together, blizzard does not like addons and that is a good excuse for them to do so.

Gamingsince1981800d ago

Nah I really don't see that happening, they would have to make all the raids already out and all the mythic dungeons far far far easier, they are harder now because they have to account for adons and things, they have said that themselves. I think they would have to pretty much remake all raids and dungeons from WoTLK onwards, and we all know blizzard hates having to actually work.

I will be watching to see what happens but it seems to me it wouldn't happen unless consoles get their own version that's complete separate and made much easier.

Xbox Launches New $1 Game Pass Ultimate Offer For The Holidays

Fraser Gilbert writes, "Perfect if you're not a subscriber already. It's no secret that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is getting more and more expensive as the years roll on, but today we've seen the return of the $1 offer that's proved so popular in the past — an entire month of access for less than a coffee"

It's good they still have this deal going on at times. You have to admit $1.00 deals is a great way to get people in the door. Even though it never worked as well as they'd hoped in the past. Clearly. But if people are interested, this is still a great way to try it out and realize that Gamepass is simply not worth $30 a month.

depends on how much you game I guess. You could get someone to subscribe to Netflix for a dollar and then realize it's not worth $20 per month if you don't actually sit and watch stuff.

TheColbertinator35d ago

Game Pass is so good they should charge us $50 a month

S2Killinit34d ago

I hope this is sarcasm. Lol

DivineHand12535d ago

It is worth it depending on the type of gamer you are. If you are very young with tons of free time, enjoy single player games but see them as one and done experiences, then Game Pass Ultimate would be valuable to you because you are basically getting games from not only Xbox, but from EA and Ubisoft as well. If you are new and have no library, you may see some value in the service.

For people like myself, though, who are a bit older with limited time to play games, Ultimate is not worth it since I am lucky to play one game to its completion per month. For me, it is better to buy the games upfront unless the service has a few I want to try before I buy.

If you are very young with tons of free time, you're probably also broke and can't afford $360 per year on a gaming subscription.

Didn't even work for me, shown the £1 bit on the link provided then they went and tried to charge me full price, thankfully my bank flagged it and asked me to authorise the transaction which shown them trying to take the full £22.99

lukasmain34d ago

Yeah I'm pretty sure that if you've ever subscribed to GamePass in the past, then this deal won't work for you. It's for brand new subscribers. 95% sure

I'll take it but i'll never pay monthly subscription, I already got bills!

Leemundo35d ago

Yeah, that’s great, but what about the loyal subscribers? We get the price hike and no offer. They also need to focus on retention. You can’t even use reward points anymore to convert to GamePass.

ocelot0735d ago

Sweet, I'll be getting that if I can and quickly going through latest COD campaign and then letting it laps.
