Capcom is Developing a Next-Gen Version of Its RE Engine

Capcom is developing an upgraded version of its RE Engine for future games, aiming for a more capable and efficient engine. The next-gen RE Engine, codenamed REX, will address issues found during operation and offer customization per game and better asset handling.
The REX Engine will include previous features while supporting new technologies and will be introduced in phases rather than building a new engine.

One of the best proprietary engines available.
Thank god Capcom believed on their own prowess and didn't just jump on the UE5 bandwagon.
Although RE4Remake looks spectacular... I just wish they could've chosen RE4Remake as Capcom's first REX title.

"Thank god Capcom believed on their own prowess and didn't just jump on the UE5 bandwagon."

It´s not just a question of "believe on their own prowess".

To invest in a in-house next gen engine takes a lot of effort, time, manpower and money for R&D.

No every studio has such talent engineering staff to pull that off, or, in most cases, publishers will not allow those studios to do it, because games development will always be a priority.

Yeah like that small studio Bethesda they apparently don’t have either the talent or money or just don’t give a crap to make a new engine and they just slap on updates to the ancient engine and call it a new version then their games have to load to open every single door etc.

The great REDengine....dumped for ue5.

SmortBoie923d ago

No doubt we'll see that debut with RE9 in, likely, spring 2026. I reckon it's probably being built together, and just starting production.
Which means they gotta have something else final on the old RE engine that's already fairly decently done to bridge the 3 year release gap. Something late next year I reckon. Doubt RE5. Spinoff. Rev3 or maybe, just maybe, a quick cheeky lil Code Veronica. Maybe.

Vithar923d ago

great news RE engine is already sick

GamerLov3923d ago

If its for better is gonna be welcomed however it still one of the top engines around

Yui_Suzumiya922d ago

Wish my laptop could run it, lol. Tried the RE2 Remake and it ran like 5fps on medium settings, lol. I do all my gaming on my laptop so that's kind of a hindrance.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing7d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster927d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit7d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing7d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster927d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
