Redfall Player Count Still Extremely Low Even After Big Update

Despite a recent update bringing many significant improvements to Redfall, its player counts on Steam are still very low.

You can polish a turd, however it's still a turd, simple as that and that's exactly what redfall was, worst game iv played all year.

MasterChief3624933d ago

You should try Gollum or that new King Kong game.

Flawlessmic933d ago

No thank you, I try to stay away from terrible games.

Ninver933d ago

@masterchief3624

Lol dude that'd be torture. I'd never wish that on my fellow man.

S2Killinit932d ago

When they brag about day one first party, they don't tell us about the quality of the games released in such circumstances.

Barlos932d ago

Tbh I watched a video about Kong on Gameranx, and while it does look piss poor, it's just not in the same league as Gollum which was just outright broken. At least Kong does look somewhat playable, even if it does look absolutely terrible.

CombatEmu932d ago

Forget GOTY, we need a Raspberry Awards equivalent.

Also, this genre is played out and beyond that there was little to no marketing or hype around this release. Yeah, the game itself needed more time in the oven, but the concept and design looks below average too.

z2g932d ago

I disagree here. I’m not defending the launch state of redfall. It’s terrible. But. The underlying concept is good. They just need to actually finish the game. It’s not even a matter of polish. It’s simply not done at all.

But if cyberpunk can do it, redfall can do it. Arkane is a great studio who was pressured to fill a content release hole and it just wasn’t ready. Let’s not bake everything down to 1 or 10. Life is far too nuanced for that and that breeds obvious polarization and stupid fights.

Abear21932d ago

Threw u an agree but just saying, vampire looter shooter isn’t the most original idea ever and maybe this is part of the reason the player count is so low. Also, reviews unfortunately do seem to have a huge affect on how well a game sells out the gate. It would be one of the biggest redemption stories in gaming if they can “fix” this game

LordoftheCritics933d ago

''Even after a big update....''

Big turd or small turd.

Still a turd

VersusDMC933d ago

I think the main problem was releasing the update at the same time people are playing Starfield and Forza.

jznrpg933d ago

Or that they released a generic game in a crappy state and now it’s just a slightly more polished generic game

VersusDMC933d ago (Edited 933d ago )

That is true. But i assume they released that update to get players to try it...and releasing it at the same time as the 2 big releases this year seems counterproductive.

Crows90933d ago

I wouldn't say the game is generic. They have a good concept. The characters are generic and check off the stupid diversity boxes.

Gameplay could have been much better if they fine tuned the experience or made it strictly singelplayer.

FinalFantasyFanatic932d ago

@Crows90,

I also think the concept is is good, but it did look generic, the main issue is the gameplay, I don't think there's anyway to salvage that without redoing the game from the ground up.

shinoff2183932d ago

Diversity isn't a redfall problem. Redfall is redfalls problem. Nothing wrong with diversity.

This game was not suppose to be released yet

porkChop933d ago

From what I saw it was a decent update but still not nearly enough.

northpaws933d ago

Subscription model means people move on quickly, since they didn't pay for the games, no need to give it another try to get their money worth.

sci4me933d ago

This is so true.. Games i payed for i invest more time in. Offcoarse we are not all the same but i feel im not alone here.

Seraphim933d ago

Sub model has nothing to do it. A seemingly large portion of gamers are only interested in the latest thing. Jumping from new release to new release... while some games can have a redemption arc they are few and far between....

ApocalypseShadow933d ago

Bingo! That's what I've been trying to tell gamers. You buy something, you try to get the most out of it. You don't buy it and it's handed to you, you can just throw it away without any care.

We're told how much value game pass is because of the price. But the real value is when you buy something and get something out of it that's priceless. That makes you want to hold on to that item and relive that enjoyable moment again and again.

Red Fall is just a throw away game. The developers didn't care to make the best they could make and released it on a service. The consumers responded by rejecting that lack of caring. And it's too late to change consumers first impressions where they consistently move on to the next game they didn't pay for.

Crows90933d ago (Edited 933d ago )

To a point. I think if you've bought something you're more likely to stick with it if it's a 7/10 game. However, if it's worse then I don't think people have a problem trading it back or tossing it. I paid for diablo 4...didn't try to keep on playing ...heck I gave Starfield much more of a chance than diablo 4 and I didn't buy Starfield.

A good game on Gamepass or any subscription keeps you hooked to the finish line.

shinoff2183932d ago

There's nothing wrong with a 7 out of 10 game.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88494d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z494d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan611d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187611d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72710d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood710d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

mkis007710d ago

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
