Xbox described Baldur’s Gate 3 as a ‘second-run Stadia PC RPG’

Microsoft is paying up to $300 million for games to be on Game Pass and yet its ability to pick the winners and losers is a bit off.

XiNatsuDragnel986d ago

Yeah you guys have weird judgment of spectacular games imo.

VersusDMC985d ago

It's a running problem as i remember they passed on Marvel and Genshin Impact as well.

execution17985d ago

And before that they even passed on little big planet

VariantAEC983d ago

And Heavy Rain and countless other games many we may never know of.
Xbox isn't about games. It's about beating PS.

Jin_Sakai985d ago

Xbox heads are clueless. This is why Xbox is in the position it’s in today.

jwillj2k4985d ago

It’s arrogance. Same people said Xbox would have a 30% advantage over ps5 hardware because 12 >10. Straight up morons..

Angyobangyo985d ago

You're linking a twitter post of a blue check mark MS shill.

shinoff2183985d ago

And, that twitter link proves nothing.

Eonjay985d ago (Edited 985d ago )

He is going out of his way to cover for Microsoft. Also, even if it is aspirational, which is is clearly not, what difference does it make. Knowing that this is their goal doesn't make anyone feel less disturbed by the prospect of further consolidation and monopolization.

mkis007985d ago

Well according to this his second point is flat out wrong because xbox didnt know BG3 would not release at the same time as other versions.

azedean985d ago

Lol... Damage control, how much they valued Baldur's Gate 3 again ?

"It was estimated it would cost $5 million to have Baldur’s Gate 3 on the service but it was roundly dismissed as a ‘second-run Stadia PC RPG"

VenomUK984d ago

@darthv72 Jez Cordon is manipulated by his Microsoft contacts; he thinks he is being told confidential info when really he’s being fed PR.

"Second run" means it launched on a different platform before coming to Xbox, it's it's second run.

It's not a comment on the quality of the game lol
You would expect videogame writers to know how to read this lingo.

fr0sty985d ago

They are twisting themselves into pretzels to try to spin what he said into anything but what he said, lol.

XiNatsuDragnel985d ago

Big brother stop man you're grasping at straws rn.

Zeref985d ago

@Advillain Baldurs Gate was the platform that it was gonna launch on first

Jesus Christ do I need to spell EVERYTHING out for you?

Eonjay985d ago

This statement was made BEFORE the launch was advanced on PC and BEFORE Xbox was version was delayed.

ravens52985d ago

Eonjay. 🫢 crazy lol.Case closed.

Yung-T985d ago (Edited 985d ago )

I don't even have an Xbox, but a PS5.
It's hilarious how you are being downvoted for the clarification on the wording.

The N4G community is honestly the worst of any entertainment site I ever encountered, ppl intentionally disregard facts if it means they can continue to downvote and make toxic fanboy comments.

Feel free to hate Microsoft and XBox for other stuff (deservedly so), but on this topic it's nonsense.

And the Advillain guy being heavily upvoted for his Stadia comment, although Baldurs Gate indeed was advertised as a Stadia release at first.

Zeref985d ago (Edited 985d ago )

No I'm not grasping at straws. You're wrong. The word you're thinking of is Second-rate not second run. Yikes.

https://twitter.com/JezCord...

mkis007985d ago

The premise is wrong for jez. This statment was made before the xbox version was postponed.

Zeref985d ago (Edited 985d ago )

@mkis007
Wrong. It was going to launch on Stadia and PC first. That's what they were referring to.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/...

mkis007985d ago

A month gap is not "second run" stop trying to excuse their ignorance.

XiNatsuDragnel984d ago

Big brother, the premise off man, the clarity is article.

Workshyskiver985d ago

Second run doesn't mean second rate like you all think it does, it just means that its not launching on xbox as a first run title i.e initial launch date. Its a second run title for Playstation too, third run really for Xbox.

mkis007985d ago

Again statement made before the release date was postponed for xbox.

This just tell you how much they understand about games, incompetent clowns with pockets full of money.

-Foxtrot985d ago

See how they don’t give a shit until something is popular and everyone is talking about it

Next they’ll try and buy them

Eonjay985d ago

They already did try to buy them... they were on their acquisition short list.

Vengeance1138985d ago

I guess Microsoft proves money can't buy brains.

A Baldur’s Gate TV series is set to follow on from Baldur’s Gate 3

Hasbro and The Last of Us show's co-creator are developing a Baldur’s Gate TV series that'll follow on from the events of Baldur's Gate 3.

Oooof. I have very little hope for this with how badly they screwed up Season 2. I loved and re-watched the first season of The Las of Us 4-5 times now. Only watched season 2 once and will not be watching Season 3 unless I'm very bored. The fact that Larian isn't involved is also another red flag.

-Foxtrot114d ago

TLOU show creator…oh God

There’s a reason why the show went from “Season 4 and possibly beyond” to “it might end at Season 3”

Daeloki114d ago

I mean regardless of who's making it, there's simply no hope for it.
A) Larian is not involved. This is gonna be pure Hasbro greed.
B) It's a game that largely revolves around player choice, with tons of outcomes and replayability. There is no single canon to translate into a show.
C) It's a high fantasy setting, with spectacular visuals that are going to be very expensive, and also very difficult to get to look actually good in live action.

Only potential they have is if they lean into campiness, make it vibe like old 90's, early 2000's fantasy shows like Xena, Mystic Knights etc. Less epic and more failed skill checks, "wrong" choices.

dmonee114d ago

From what I have read, The Last of Us season 2 woes, was because of Neil Druckman. I have hope for season 3 now that he is out if the equation. I have hope for BG live action show. Its also being worked in by the team that did Chernobyl.

Shaky Relationship meaning Hasbro wanted an even larger cut of the pie moving forward. Also why we're not getting BG4 w/Larian. Hasbro just wanted to bleed them dry.

Michiel1989140d ago

no im pretty sure it was related to the people from hasbro that helped with the game getting fired or that only the people from Larian were eligible for bonusses and Larian didn't fuck with that

Christopher140d ago

The people from Hasbro were fired by Hasbro. Why would non-workers on a game get bonuses for not having worked on the game (meaning anyone at Hasbro)?

repsahj141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

Because they are busy for the next Divinity game on Switch 2. Fine by me because I already have BG3 on my PS5, and believe me or not, I didn't finish it. Considering I bought the Deluxe edition to play it ahead of everyone. XD

gigoran8140d ago

if this were able to run on the switch 2, then theoretically the PS4 pro should be able to as well. can't wait for that port

Neonridr140d ago (Edited 140d ago )

you do realize that in terms of numbers it might be on par with a PS4 Pro. However, GPU wise, it has a much larger feature set available to it. The PS4 Pro couldn't even run FSR natively.

Terry_B140d ago

Yeah..I doubt BG3 would run well on the Switch 2.
