The PSVR 2, six months after launch is stuck in neutral and remains a niche accessory. The PSVR 2 needs AAA games to move more units.

As much as I think it's a cool system it seems really dead on arrival

fr0sty864d ago

you obviously don't own one. I can't even start to finish all the games I have in my backlog for it.

JackBNimble863d ago (Edited 863d ago )

I think the point is that there are not enough psvr2's owned to ever justify any dev/publisher to create any AAA games.

I get it not everything needs to be AAA but there is no way I'm buy a $500 system that has few AAA and mostly indies.
I live in Canada so a psvr2 is actually $750 , not worth it for me at the moment

thorstein863d ago

There was an article a few months ago that said the exact opposite of this article.

Quote: " I was getting concerned about PSVR 2 — but Sony just reassured me about its future

PSVR 2 is selling well and the games are coming"

danglyparts863d ago

thats because you dont finish the games in your backlog for it

peppeaccardo863d ago (Edited 863d ago )

got all the exclusive games and having a blast ... I also own a PC with rtx 4090 and PICO VR and I have to admit that the PSVR2 is a glorious piece of tech !!!
Game On and screw the haters !

You no clue. They have announced morre games then you realize. Vr makes games better. If you have tried it you just don't know.

PapaBop864d ago

DOA? My friend has done nothing but talk about it over the last week. The new Firewall game, Crossfire which supposedly feels like Time Crisis VR, Resi 4 VR around the corner.. alongside existing titles like Villiage and GT7 which are supposedly some of the best VR games .

EvertonFC863d ago

7th guest soon too and Tin hearts look great ☺️👍

S2Killinit864d ago (Edited 864d ago )

If you actually use it yiu will realize that it has more compelling exclusive must have games than you realize. The curse of VR is that people dont know how good it is.

I challenge you to find a better racing game than GT7 in VR.

TheLordOfStuff864d ago

You clearly don't own one then lol

Tzuno863d ago

Just like PS5, is collecting dust, barely any exclusives come out

Crows90863d ago

So what was Xbox when it released with no exclusives for it?

Games take time to make.

Bought it on Day One, while there are some good games here and there, it badly need first party support.

Babadook7864d ago (Edited 864d ago )

It will get 1st party support.

That being said. There are quite a few incredible experiences that beat any game I’ve played this gen on a flat screen.

1. RE8
2. GT7
3. Red Matter 2

Looking like an amazing start to an amazing product.

I play it every day.

EvertonFC863d ago (Edited 863d ago )

H:cotm
Switchback
Res village
Firewall ultra also exclusives and the firework game fantasia or something?

Hoping for a 2k or EA golf VR update myself

PunksOnN4G864d ago (Edited 864d ago )

We got PSVR day 1 my dad to this day still uses it just about every single week. We were going to buy PSVR2 day 1 but mst the titles we own and he owns alot did not get ported the ones who did offered no upgrade path or free version and they were marked full price again. We both decide not to get it

Leeroyw864d ago (Edited 864d ago )

I had psvr1 and it gathered dust. Wanted to love it. I have psvr2 and whie I agree that it needs more games I do play it every chance I get. I love it. But I wish it just had more converted games like re8 and bulletstorm. I don't want shovel wear and arcade experiences with a gimmick. I love vr. There's nothing quite like it.

PunksOnN4G863d ago

Yep my dad loves it cuz he felt gaming been the same for so long. Now he uses it all the time. We will get one way down the road not anytime soon though...

Leeroyw863d ago (Edited 863d ago )

I wasn't going to try red matter 2 and it was expensive for the hours I played. But...
BUT... You're absolutely right. I haven't felt such a sense of scale and perspective in a game that it honestly goes down in my top 20 game experiences of all time. You are bang on.!!

ApocalypseShadow864d ago (Edited 864d ago )

Bullshit. These same individuals have not said anything about Valve, HTC, Pimax, Facebook, etc having AAA games for those headsets and they've been out longer. No articles whatsoever. Anything about GTA on Quest or Creed release date? Nope.

Sony launches at the end of February and comes out with GT7 and RE8 right off the bat. Creates a game based on a hot franchise which is Horizon. And we know games like RE4 Remake VR are coming which is AAA. Go to the PlayStation Blog and games are announced weekly for PS VR 2. Which match PC graphics and are better looking versions that Quest 2 could ever display on its own.

Do they ask on why PC and Quest 2 aren't getting RE8? RE4 Remake VR? Nope. But Sony supposedly gets no games and gets no AAA games. Is Synapse on PC or Quest 2? Nope. But we keep seeing these ridiculous articles.

Want to know what's coming out? Go to the PlayStation Blog. Want to know what's releasing and coming that are confirmed games for PS VR 2? Just watch videos like this from legit sites like Eurogamer.
https://youtu.be/dd-yhkH-_N...
That was 3 weeks ago for this video.

That's over 110 games. But PS VR 2 has no games and no games coming if you listen to the narrative being pushed. No one knew Guerilla was making a VR game in collaboration. But one came at launch. Just because Sony isn't saying much beyond Spider-Man 2 doesn't mean all those studios are sitting in their offices doing nothing but collecting checks.

And, after making a hit VR game and a hit pack in game for PS5 with Astrobot, you would think Asobi was making nothing else based on these bullshit articles that are either biased or agenda based. Take these knuckleheads articles with a grain of salt.

All these right now individuals are holding Sony to a standard when games are actually coming. But they don't say shit about others. And most likely promote Facebook and Quest when nothing AAA has released except RE4 and maybe Medal of Honor. After 2 years, you expect more of 20 million headsets were sold. Sony matched that amount at launch already within 6 months. Actually the first month.

Still, it's a niche product, and the usual overpriced gimmick from Sony that nobody asked for.

crazyCoconuts864d ago

Probably over a million "nobody's" such as myself. I for one use it and am glad they have it.
Yeah, definitely not for everyone, especially if you can't afford it

fr0sty864d ago (Edited 864d ago )

Overpriced? It has better specs than PC headsets twice its price... Still nothing on PC you can get that features eye tracking, Tempest 3D audio with 100 different spatial audio objects, foveated rendering, or haptic feedback... and for it to also come with 4K OLED HDR panels, which no other headset in its price range has... you'd have to be daft or have no idea what you're talking about to call that overpriced. To call it a gimmick proves you've never touched one.

PapaBop864d ago

@ fr0sty It's definitely not overpriced so to speak but it's still too expensive for the average gamer to take a chance on or impulse buy. It probably will always be a niche product but that isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as those who buy it continue to use it.

Neonridr863d ago

@fr0sty - please don't talk about Tempest 3D audio like it's some miracle of technology, that is the biggest gimmick around. Any good Surround Sound headset can replicate everything happening with "Sony's" headsets. I use a Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro wireless set with my PSVR2 and it sounds incredible and is more comfortable to wear.

CosmicTurtle863d ago

I asked for it. I just wanted more dedicated first party and triple A games (or at least announcements) that take advantage of the hardware and the medium. PSVR1 was not powerful enough and ended up with many games that would have flourished on better hardware with dedicated controls.

I have a psvr 2 and the original quality games are kinda scarce. don't get me wrong the add ons are great but 600 dollars to play a few add ons doesn't really cut it. no backwards compatibility really hampers the system as the post launch drought is inevitable for most systems.

fr0sty864d ago (Edited 864d ago )

PSVR2 launched with more AAA games than PSVR1 ever had... and they keep coming. RE8, GT7 (and no, these aren't add ons, they're full on experiences that vastly improve the game over playing it on a TV), No Man's Sky (ditto), Crossfire, Firewall, Pavlov, Horizon, just to name a few, all within the first 6 months of release. That's a better lineup of games than PS5 itself had in its first 6 months... Pretty much everything PS5 had to start with was cross-platform games that barely upgraded over their PS4 counterparts, it wasn't until more recently that we really got to see what the system was capable of, so with that considered, I'd say PSVR2 is off to a fine start, and it'll only get better from here.

Babadook7864d ago (Edited 864d ago )

“I have a psvr 2 and the original quality games are kinda scarce.”

What does original quality mean?

Stanjara864d ago

You are delusional and way too deep.
You have RE titles and GT7. Everything else are overpriced mediocre titles.

Babadook7864d ago (Edited 864d ago )

“You have RE titles and GT7. Everything else are overpriced mediocre titles.“

Even if that’s true. Which it isn’t because I could list many other amazing games. RE8 alone destroys any flat screen game this gen by a wide margin. GT7 also destroys the flat screen version when comparing fun factor.

Stanjara864d ago

Babadook7 Yes, these are really impressive, but these handful of titles don't justify the price and the hassle of Sony accessory vision of ecosystem.

Babadook7863d ago (Edited 863d ago )

I think the cost is acceptable for a product this good. The amount of great titles at the moment is acceptable too and ‘who knows how much it grows each year?’” It’s half a year old. The potential is sky high. The ps3 has a much slower start. Even the ps4 and ps5 may have been slower. Sony will have lots more support obviously.

The more you use it the less hassle it is also.

Neonridr863d ago

you get so defensive if someone doesn't agree with you about PSVR2. Why do you think those RE games don't exist on PC? Because Sony pays for exclusivity.

ApocalypseShadow861d ago (Edited 861d ago )

And you get defensive thinking they're right when obviously they don't support VR anyway. A lot of these fools have never used it. They are fine with big companies buying up publishers or fine with micro transactions. But not fine with something that would give them even more immersion. They want Sony to make something awesome then give it away for almost nothing. Games. Headsets. Consoles Doesn't matter. These gamers are cheapskates asking for handouts.

How do you know Sony is paying for exclusives? But you know what's funny? Gamers want Sony to invest in bringing VR games to their headset. And when they do that, then people like you imply that it's a negative. You can't have it both ways.

Either you want Sony to push for more high quality, even hybrid exclusives to the platform or you don't. And they act like Sony is making no more games beyond Spider-Man 2. Happens every time. Doom and gloom. Then Sony brings the games. Then, we do this shit all over again.

No. What I don't like is ignorant individuals that don't know what they are talking about. They want Sony to bring new, innovative things to PlayStation. Then, those same knuckleheads tear them down for trying like PS VR 2 or Project Q or whatever. I'm sick of brats that don't deserve anything. Gaming doesn't have to be locked to a controller and a couch. Only the narrow-minded want that. And there's a lot of them in this thread.

I’m not gonna lie, I was so excited for it, but it’s sort of a paper weight right now without any heavy hitters coming out. RE4 VR will be the thing that gets me to jump back in, but what’s there after this?

It also sucks I can’t play the PSVR 1 games… that was a bit of a blow for me.

Can’t wait, especially now that I’ve learned that Ace Combat8 will not have any kind of vr component.

Wasn’t really keeping up with Aces because it was all multiplayer, I guess this will have to do
