GF365: "Instead of being a portable PlayStation, Portal is a Remote Play device. In short, PlayStation Portal solves a problem that doesn't exist."

Matt Cabral: "While the game never reaches the epic highs of its predecessors, I've mostly had a good time stabbing, puzzle-solving, and exploring the would-be god-slayer's early stomping grounds, especially when braving its land of Laconia on my PlayStation Portal."

Handheld gaming in 2026 compared. We break down Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation Portal and ROG Xbox Ally to see which brand approach makes the most sense.
"For players who regularly play away from a television, this reliability is still unmatched." - speaking like a true Nintendo fanboy!
LOL the explanation about the Portal is totally whacked and out of date, it's not even funny anymore. When was this article published? 2024?
Sorry to disappoint you Portal haters out there, the Portal works good everywhere, not just inside your house. I regularly use it at my office over 25km away from home using my office wifi with ZERO issues. Been playing it on the go over my phone's 5G connection too nowadays because...why not?
Recently got a fairly cheap Legion Go Z1 Extreme. Though I enjoy it and love sitting in bed playing Euro Truck Simulator 2. You really do have to scale back setting on anything remotely modern to get it playable (for me 60fps in the bare min). I tried playing Ghost of Tsushima on it and after setting everything to low and resolution to 1080p. FSR balanced and Frame Gen enabled getting a 70-80fps it was very playable felt smooth but looked like complete bum cheeks.
Experienced a friend Xbox Alley the basic white one. Felt nice to use Xbox experience was meh and performance on games where again bum cheeks. Terrible experience.
Playstation portal is my choice. Sure you need internet. But providing you have access to something half decent. It's a great experience. I don't even have to have my ps5 switched on

Is PlayStation still worth it in 2026? We break down PS5, PS5 Pro, PlayStation Portal and PSVR2 to see where Sony stands today.
I'd propose that 2026 is probably the best year yet to go get into the PS5 gen.
Software lineup is packed, backlog is great, PSSR2 reportedly around the corner for the Pro, prices are still fairly "low" compared to what's expected to come.
If I hadn't upgraded to the Pro or even gotten into this gen already, I'd definitely would do it now - or at least look for current offers.
I love my PS5. My backlog is crazy and I am really trying to play through all these great games. SO many gems to be found if you look hard enough.
Value is subjective to the eye of the beholder, and almost 90 million have said yes, so that's not gonna change.
Gamers love the PS brand, and as long as Sony delivers the goods, they will continue to be worth it.
I'm a Nintendo girl, but I know success when I see it.
I can't believe where the hardware prices have gone this gen. I got a ps5 and series x at launch and later gave my ps5 to my niece and nephew and bought a pro and somehow with the state of things I feel like it was worth it. All the hardware I bought is more expensive than when I bought it. Crazy times.
Doesn't really explain what this problem that doesn't exist is. Does it mean that there are already plenty of options for remote play? I get a pretty much flawless performance using my phone and Razer Kishi. It would be nice having a separate device for it with a bigger screen, but not £200 nice without Bluetooth.
For the price it’s just an inexpensive option for handheld play. I’m getting it for sure as my wife makes me come to bed with her when she goes to sleep but I can play in bed. Also when my wife and kids are using my TVs I can still play if I want. It’s not going to take over TV play but it will be nice to have. I don’t want to use my phone or any other device.
I’d prefer it to be a dedicated device with remote play option like the Vita but that would add 200$ to it at least.
Written by someone who doesn't have kids or a big family. I'm gonna get this just because wife likes to watch TV but have me sit around. I can play this on the side. I know I can do it on a phone or a tablet but there are so many things to setup, connect a controller, ensure your phone battery doesn't drain out etc. which makes me want a dedicated device.
200$ isn't that big a deal in my opinion
I fear if I get something like this it will just sit and gather dust. On paper it might sound like it is good for niche scenarios like if the tv is occupied I can still game but in reality, would I want to game on an inferior screen. I am also concerned about the distance I would be able to go from the console because the wifi in the house sucks.
Such a lame article.
I live in Tokyo. The weather is disgustingly hot lately. I've mostly been playing Switch because I can play it in bed (where the Air-conditioner is stronger).
This would make it much easier to play games like FF16 🤷♂️
