Baldur's Gate 3 Review - IGN

With crunchy, tactical RPG combat, a memorable story with complex characters, highly polished cinematic presentation, and a world that always rewards exploration and creativity, Baldur's Gate 3 is the new high-water mark for CRPGs.

FPSRUSSIA1016d ago (Edited 1016d ago )

not Surprised it got a 10 im not a Big PC Gamer my self but might check it out at some point on PlayStation 5

Zombieburger6381016d ago

The story really sucks you in, definitely give it a try.

Jin_Sakai1016d ago

This game really is that good huh. I never played a game like this so maybe I should get it for PS5 and give it a try.

Flawlessmic1016d ago

It's that good!!!

Put it this way bg3 was barely on my radar and it wasn't until close to launch I was like I'm gonna get it.

It is now my runaway favourite for game of the year ahead of totk and ff16.

I can't see spiderman or starfield changing my mind, but we will see.

Do yourself a favour and buy bg3 though, it is the role playing game we have wished for and larian have delivered.

Abear211015d ago

I’m def picking it up at some point just because it’s a 10, like when it’s $25, turn based ain’t my thang

Name Last Name1016d ago

I’ll definitely play this eventually but I still need to beat Zelda and may play Starfield next.

lelo2play1016d ago

Baldur's Gate 3 is a great game, but so many perfect reviews is absurd for a game that runs like a turd. It's very badly optimized, specially the 3rd act.

KyRo1016d ago (Edited 1016d ago )

Oh so you mean like every Bethesda RPG? They get given perfect scores despite being buggy, broken, dated and poorly animated.

lelo2play1016d ago (Edited 1016d ago )

@KyRo

Who the hell is talking about Bethesda games? If Starfield is badly optimized on release, it should be criticized.

We are talking about Baldur's Gate 3, and the 3rd act is absurdly bad optimized. There are places in the city (3rd act) that FPS's reach single digits.

-Foxtrot1016d ago (Edited 1016d ago )

You know for a fine fact Starfield will get great reviews despite bugs

Oblivion and Skyrim were the exact same

No one says shit

badboyz091016d ago

I'm liking Midnight Suns more

The_Hooligan1015d ago

I like that game too! Got the legendary edition for $40 during the last sale. Well worth the price!

Easily gonna sweep the GOTY awards this year. Can't wait to play it soon!

outsider16241016d ago

I think so too. Good candidates in the nominees section but it looks like this game is gonna sweep all.

mkis0071016d ago

No hate campaign so the only thing holding it back will be reach.

Tapani1016d ago (Edited 1016d ago )

Going to be a tough competition between BG3 and Zelda this year. Was not sure if Zelda would be as good as it is, but just having played it a bit past the first area, I think it is a very, very solid game. BGIII feels like OSIII but in BG and D&D form, which makes it more refreshing. Many great games left to be experience this year, the backlog is building up!

--Onilink--1016d ago (Edited 1016d ago )

Its definitely going to be interesting to see which one takes it, as they are both very different but at the same time both really went out of their way to prove we could still have massive games release in a very polished state, trying new stuff and above all, really giving the players the tools to experiment and play how they want and the games won’t buckle under that freedom.

As good as Starfield and Spiderman 2 are likely to be (I can easily imagine both being high 80s/low 90s) I wasn’t really expecting another game this year to compete that closely with TotK

Droppedez1016d ago

Is there a physical release coming for ps5? Been searching here and there trying to preorder one.

Droppedez1016d ago

thanks for the reply, but I did just find this which gives us hope for a physical release, whether I need to buy it from Japan or no. https://www.vg247.com/baldu...

TheColbertinator1016d ago

I miss the days when 10/10 from IGN was a tough nut to crack.

Yui_Suzumiya1015d ago

I remember when MGS4 was given a 10/10 and it was like only the 8th game to get it at that point from them, lol

A Baldur’s Gate TV series is set to follow on from Baldur’s Gate 3

Oooof. I have very little hope for this with how badly they screwed up Season 2. I loved and re-watched the first season of The Las of Us 4-5 times now. Only watched season 2 once and will not be watching Season 3 unless I'm very bored. The fact that Larian isn't involved is also another red flag.

-Foxtrot113d ago

TLOU show creator…oh God

There’s a reason why the show went from “Season 4 and possibly beyond” to “it might end at Season 3”

Daeloki113d ago

I mean regardless of who's making it, there's simply no hope for it.
A) Larian is not involved. This is gonna be pure Hasbro greed.
B) It's a game that largely revolves around player choice, with tons of outcomes and replayability. There is no single canon to translate into a show.
C) It's a high fantasy setting, with spectacular visuals that are going to be very expensive, and also very difficult to get to look actually good in live action.

Only potential they have is if they lean into campiness, make it vibe like old 90's, early 2000's fantasy shows like Xena, Mystic Knights etc. Less epic and more failed skill checks, "wrong" choices.

dmonee112d ago

From what I have read, The Last of Us season 2 woes, was because of Neil Druckman. I have hope for season 3 now that he is out if the equation. I have hope for BG live action show. Its also being worked in by the team that did Chernobyl.

Shaky Relationship meaning Hasbro wanted an even larger cut of the pie moving forward. Also why we're not getting BG4 w/Larian. Hasbro just wanted to bleed them dry.

Michiel1989139d ago

no im pretty sure it was related to the people from hasbro that helped with the game getting fired or that only the people from Larian were eligible for bonusses and Larian didn't fuck with that

Christopher138d ago

The people from Hasbro were fired by Hasbro. Why would non-workers on a game get bonuses for not having worked on the game (meaning anyone at Hasbro)?

repsahj140d ago (Edited 140d ago )

Because they are busy for the next Divinity game on Switch 2. Fine by me because I already have BG3 on my PS5, and believe me or not, I didn't finish it. Considering I bought the Deluxe edition to play it ahead of everyone. XD

gigoran8139d ago

if this were able to run on the switch 2, then theoretically the PS4 pro should be able to as well. can't wait for that port

Neonridr138d ago (Edited 138d ago )

you do realize that in terms of numbers it might be on par with a PS4 Pro. However, GPU wise, it has a much larger feature set available to it. The PS4 Pro couldn't even run FSR natively.

Terry_B138d ago

Yeah..I doubt BG3 would run well on the Switch 2.
