Well everyone use faqs and those who dont are lying :p .There are stuff , especially in jrpg with multiple paths and many characters to unlock , that are impossible to do without them . Hell without the faqs you most likely dont even know about half of those "missing" features .

How the heck else would i know that in suikoden at an X precise and given moment , i'm supposed to meet a character i didnt even know existed , so i could recruit him ?

As for the ffvii thing , it's more than old time FF players were sick of newcomers dismissing everything pre ff7 .... or refusing to play them because of graphics . opinions are opinions , but it is widely believed by many that an hypothetical version of FF6 with F7's graphics ( well back then , now it would have to be superior ones ) and direction , would probably kick FF7's bottom .

I believe so myself , and that ff7 isnt even the second best FF title , even if i still think that FF7 was a great game and can understand why would people starting with it , would remember it so dearly .

Use Gamefaqs? Hell, I ran the MGS2, MGS3, and MGS4 boards.

And FFVII is ONE OF the best games of all time. Right up there with Ocarina and MGS.

Uh...Are using faqs supposed to be taboo? I find them quite helpful in quite a few situations. You know those times when your sitting their scratching your head after exhausting almost every road or resource within' the game to try and get by. Meh, I bet the author would admit that they have used faqs before =p

I remember I used GameFaqs for Shadow of the Colossus because there was a few Colossus I just couldn't figure out how to beat.... I remember I spent probably about 2 or 3 hours fighting the Final Colossus and I just couldn't figure out how to take him out, so I used GameFaqs as a last resort.

I only use walkthroughs if I'm REALLY stuck in one particular spot, but that's it. No matter how hardcore a gamer is, I think that everyone gets stuck in a game every know and then, and I have no problem admitting it and I'll use a GameFaq only if I really have to.

What's wrong with games like Fate/Stay Night or Tsukihime, oh wait these games are not meant for children and will never see the light of day in America.

I Used a FAQ. - yes i did to get some of the ultimate weapons in some games like final fantasy and some games for 100%, but I do pass the game under meduim 1st time w/o any help exploring alone.
