Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t come to Xbox before 2024, Larian suggests

Writing on Twitter, Larian’s director of publishing Michael Douse seemed to imply that the issues relating to launching the game on Microsoft‘s platform may not be resolved until next year.

Outside_ofthe_Box899d ago

Very good marketing on their part! They're getting the attention that they wanted!

raWfodog899d ago (Edited 899d ago )

Even working with Xbox's ATG team cannot get the Series S version up to par before the end of this year. We should be putting the blame squarely on MS's parity clause because the Series X version is good to go.

Vengeance1138899d ago

Oh look, a problem Microsoft cant throw money at to fix. Love to see it.

shinoff2183899d ago

I mean they could , they could send a small team over to help out , maybe see what's the issue , etc.

zekk899d ago

I think I read an article saying that ms did send a team to help.
https://www.ign.com/article...
No clue how accurate it is.

zekk899d ago

3 down votes? Did I post the wrong article? I'm pretty sure this was the one I mentioned

MrNinosan899d ago

@Zekk stop crying about downvotes. That itself will get you downvotes. It's a fucking forum with 90% trolls, 9% bots, and 1% decent humans.

zekk899d ago

Nothing like that. I didn't re read the article so I wasn't sure if I posted the one I thought I did

Flakegriffin898d ago (Edited 898d ago )

That requires Microsoft actually caring and having the talent to do so. Microsoft would only do that if Larian was wanting to make a controller instead of a game.

northpaws899d ago

Or they can throw money at it to stop it from releasing on PS5.

BrainSyphoned899d ago

Or they can cancel the S and release it for owners of the X.

MrBaskerville899d ago

They could hurry and buy Larian and then cancel ps5 version, problem solved!

DOMination-899d ago

They can't just cancel the S. They made a very public commitment saying that all games this generation will release on both X and S. If they went back on that, it would be even more of a disaster than it already is.

thesoftware730899d ago

@Vengeance
You sound so bitter lol.

Anyway, Not for this one game, but at some point MS will have to stop the parity clause between the X and S.

JEECE899d ago

You have to wonder, how many people are there out there who: 1) Plan to buy this game as soon as it is available on their platform; 2) Only own a Series S; and 3) want to play split screen. Because it seems like the Xbox version of the game is being delayed just for that specific group.

Plague-Doctor27899d ago

If Microsoft allows this game on Series X and not S it sets a bad precedent and completely fractures their platform base. This generation is not even halfway through and the Series S will only grow into more of a problem for games like this. If one studio gets a pass many others will follow suit.

JEECE899d ago

I think you are right that it isn't about this game, but about the overall principle of not letting devs make lesser versions of games (at least feature wise) for the S.

dumahim899d ago

Not sure why they wouldn't just release it without split screen on Xbox until they can get it working and patch it in later, unless this is a thing where MS won't allow that because it's included on PS.

BrainSyphoned899d ago

So just like Halo Infinite's co-op eh? Xbox, power to the single player.
*single player games not included

Hofstaderman899d ago (Edited 899d ago )

I think MS has a parity clause

Zombieburger638899d ago

Not all devs want to compromise on their vision. Good on larian for taking more time instead of releasing something not up to their own standards.

Christopher899d ago

It's the X and S parity clause. I think if it wasn't there, they would do split-screen co-op on X and not have it on S with an option to work to add it down the road. I'm very surprised Microsoft isn't more accommodating on this considering it's BG3. It's fine to go all digital and just inform people that split-screen co-op only works on the X for now but they're working on implementing it on S but please enjoy the game like everyone else on day 1.

Workshyskiver899d ago

I guess they just don't want to open up the inevitable floodgates if they start allowing developers that option.

JEECE899d ago

I think this is probably it. If they make this exception, they'll have devs assuming they can get away with leaving out features from the Series S versions of games. Not a precedent they want to set, at least not yet.

MrBaskerville899d ago

They will basically risk ruining the Series S if they open that can of worms.

Christopher899d ago (Edited 899d ago )

I get it, but at the same time it's a very niche market of capabilities that hold back the Series X. I don't think developers aren't going to implement various modes unless it's something like this split-screen co-op. Developers aren't going to just ignore half of the Series market as a general rule. Heck, just amend the parity clause to include everything but split-screen co-op? It's 100% better to have a game w/o one niche feature than miss out on it entirely.

dumahim899d ago

I get the impression Larian really wants split screen there, but I think MS is pretty much stuck having to force S and X having the same features. I think the game should release without split screen on Xbox on both until it's working and then patch it in later, unless MS is the ones really pushing for it having to be there at release because it's on playstation.

NotoriousWhiz899d ago

Great point, but I think Larian really doesn't want to launch without split screen.

Workshyskiver898d ago

I agree, I have bought it for my PC but I'd rather have it with no Split Screen on my XsX than not at all.

Bear secks is something everyone should enjoy, but sometimes we all have problems getting our partner into it.

Ashunderfire86899d ago (Edited 899d ago )

This is why the Series S was a horrible idea, and PS5 Digital without the disc with no other changes, made way more sense! Sony was smart for doing that. Microsoft always seem to fall flat on their face with horrible ideas year after year! They should start a limited time free upgrade or at least get your Series X for just $200 dollars when you trade in your Series S promotion! Fix the problem sooner than later!

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.
