CD PROJEKT RED Organizational Update

Adam Kiciński writes: "We’ve carefully assessed all teams in the company in terms of their expected contribution to the delivery of our strategy. There’s no easy way to say this, but today we are overstaffed. We have talented people on board who are finishing their tasks and — based on current and expected project needs — we already know we don’t have other opportunities for them in the next year. The outcome is the studio parting ways with around 100 people, which is roughly 9% of the entire team. This will not be immediate as some employees will be let go as late as Q1 2024 but, in the spirit of transparency, we’ve chosen to share the information now. We want team members to have ample time to process and adjust to the change, and we’ve also made sure to offer everyone a comprehensive severance package."

Geee i wonder why that is. Suck for the workers who have to suffer because the higher ups made a poor decision and tried to cover it up and make excuses.

ModsDoBetter1038d ago

Yep, shareholders pressured them to rush the game out the door and it was a complete and utter mess.

Still can't wrap my head around all of the positive reviews the game is now getting. It's like people are haply to buy unfinished games hoping that the developers will finish the game later. Shame.

Not everyone makes it as things transition from one team to another, one project to another. With the expansion coming in September people who make it will be moved into Witcher projects whole others will be laid off. This is common in the industry, TBH.

Na they are part of the esg now
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Lost almost everyone in the core team behind red engine and witcher 3 that and profit is why they are on unreal engine now.

Get ready for a wave of copy paste asset flipping titles with ai tech / soulless uninspired trash no original ideas.

Laying off 100 old members that no doubt help with cyberpunk dlc is a win win no pension to pay them and you can hire cheap out of school devs for one title then fire them also that is the industry now.

"Today we are overstaffed"

Considering they made profit on CP2077 before it even released in the condition it did, and The Witcher 3's update still exhibits performance issues, this is a lie.

Put the excess team members on projects that still need polish. And use them to refine the next projects. We know CDPR has the money - they didn't shy away from bragging about it before releasing broken software and even today they're still avoiding responsibility for doing that.

They may have the money but any company's success isn't in maintaining payroll, it's maintaining profit margins. And if one starts to slip payroll is the first to be cut.

just_looken1037d ago

They can't work on older titles anymore majority of the redengine creators left the company that is why they are on unreal engine now.

They laid off 100 old employees to avoid paying them more and there pensions then use unreal engine with its Ai tech to auto create landscapes.

Unreal engine makes game creation cheap reuse assets use ai and the devs you hire are way cheaper than industry vets just fire them after the game is done this is the way now.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing29d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9230d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit29d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing29d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9229d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
