Quantum Error PS4 Version Canceled; It’d Require Too Much Downgrading To Work

Today developer Teamkill Media announced that the PS4 version of its cosmic horror game Quantum Error has officially been canceled.

Christopher953d ago

I guess that answers some questions about their last tweet.

Vx_952d ago

It looks like a PS3 game.

NoFanBoy952d ago

Nonsense, the visuals are fine for early UE5, the animation and AI is a bigger problem.

Sciurus_vulgaris953d ago

Based on what has been shown of Quantum Error, I don’t understand why it is being stated as very technically demanding by the its developers.

Uhm yeah I'm not gonna bag on the game but I saw all this noise on Twitter or X whatever is called now about needing a fast SSD for a game I never heard of. So I went to YouTube to watch some gameplay vids, to be honest it looks like a poor mans Dead Space, not bad but nothing that's like wow or that's new, very standard looking title with lots of corridor, small room shooting, definitely not pushing UE5 from what I see= Looks like this could easily run on last gen consoles....but 'meh I guess they wanta create a lil hype for their game so whatever.

RaidenBlack952d ago

Also, we've already got Callisto Protocol running even on Xbox One

Yui_Suzumiya952d ago

Not understanding how you haven't heard of it, lol. This was the first current gen game that got my attention years ago.

Vits953d ago

Honestly, I'm divided between the team just being straight-up bad at optimization. It might be as if they are new developers with only one mixed-reviewed previously released title. Or they are making those statements to create a buzz around the game because if we look at the actual gameplay released so far they are really hard to substantiate.

shinoff2183952d ago

I'd lean more towards just being inexperienced. Personally I'd try to optimize or bring someone in to help. Ps4 install base is to large to miss imo. Hey it's their game

PunksOnN4G953d ago

I mean the devs did show boss fight yesterday and one ur changing to diff whole area in seconds during the fight like on R&C... Then again arm chair devs think they know everything

Angyobangyo953d ago

Spoken like a true arm chair developer.

Has anyone watched gameplay videos of this game? It looks worse than most PS4 games graphically. But it can't run on a Series S/X or PS4?

Fishy Fingers953d ago (Edited 953d ago )

I appreciate they're a small dev team but come on, they've used every trick in the book to try and get some attention for the last 4 years and credit where its due, its kinda worked.

But the game itself looks absolutely laughable.

2moda5gamer952d ago

Game needs better optimisation but it doesn't look as bad as people are making it out to be. Upscaling seems to be doing decent enough.

ModsDoBetter953d ago

Good.
Sick of games being held back by Series S and PS4.

Mr "we believe in generations" & don't even get me started on Phil. Time to get some CURRENT GEN only games.

ModsDoBetter953d ago

Lol @ disagrees for speaking facts.
They are happy to bash Series S for holding back games but god forbid the PS4 holds games back - yikes.

shinoff2183952d ago (Edited 952d ago )

Well olmyersio the difference being developing on ps4 is a developer option. The series s is a must to have parity. Huge difference

Cute,nice try

OptimusDK952d ago

@shinoff2183 you should then define parity - games now a days scale very well though lower target framerate, dynamic resolution.
But yes it might mean that they have to use the technologies that XBOX developed lik velocity architecture or mesh shaders etc. But hey that is their job right. But they would rather take the easiest route and i doo understand that - but they also have to make a real effort.

ModsDoBetter952d ago (Edited 952d ago )

"Cute, nice try"

God, you famboys are honestly so fragile that any simple comment is, in your little minds, always an attempt to discredit the platform and your purchase, calm down spinoff. Jfc.

Also quit moving goalposts.

ravens52952d ago

Sick of games being held back by Series S and *last gen consoles*. Fixed it for you.

ravens52952d ago

Not at all. Jus doesn't make sense to name the ps4 as an equal problem with the s. The ps4 is last gen. Any last gen version is for sure to hold them back, that's their excuse. The s doesn't have 1.

ModsDoBetter952d ago (Edited 952d ago )

@raven

Ah so "we believe in generations" means nothing now? Gotcha.

ravens52952d ago

Oh no, it does. Believe me I was upset Gowr and Hfw were cross gen. But they were still great games and nothing wrong with them technically speaking. They were still fully optimized.

ModsDoBetter952d ago

@raven,

I respect that, honestly.
It's rare you get someone from either camp to admit shortcomings with their chosen platform in the comment section. Personally I don't even own my xbox anymore, just switch, PS5 and PC. The only reason I stated what I did above is because sometimes things seem a bit "echo-chambery" here with bias being rife.

HFW was very well optimised as was GoWR. Would just be good to see what both the PS5 and SX are capable of without being held back by Series S and PS4 respectively.

ravens52952d ago

Agreed. I really enjoyed Returnal. Sure it didn't push the 5 but it was a great ps5 only game.

Vx_952d ago

Did you watch the gameplay? it looks like a PS3 game. lol

Bathyj953d ago

What a waste of time and money. They should have made this decision at the beginning. They probably didn't realise it was going to take him so long to release. This game is feeling like vaporware.

JEECE953d ago

Yep, I think a lot of publishers/devs think their game is going to release early in a new generation, so they plan to do cross gen, and then the longer the game gets delayed because it won't run well on the old systems, the less justification there is for releasing it on those old systems.

Vits953d ago

Is doubtful that there was even a PS4 version, to begin with.

Quantum Error PlayStation 5 Review | NoobFeed

NoobFeed Editor Simon Estey writes - Quantum Error is too ambitious to the detriment of basic features. It wants to be a survival horror game, a first-person shooter, and a sci-fi thriller film but doesn't pull off any of these particularly well. Its most interesting aspect is its firefighting, but this is also what it spends the least of its playtime focused on. It is incredibly impressive that it was built by such a small team, but that doesn't make it any more enjoyable to play.

Applaud the QE team for the effort...but their core loop is crap. Need playtesting gents!

Godmars290854d ago

So, one point for effort, minus a million for stirring up fanboy BS.

lelo2play853d ago (Edited 853d ago )

By constantly bashing the Xbox, these developers turned their shitty game in a success on the PS5. PR department deserve a raise...

babadivad853d ago

Is this the piece of shite game they claimed the S couldn't run?
