Xbox Live Gold Seemingly Ending in September

Xbox Game Pass has long been one of the better deals in gaming, but Microsoft also has Xbox Live Gold, which has led to some confusion for players in the past. Now, it seems like Xbox Live Gold might be going away on September 1, moving subscribers over to an Xbox Game Pass subscription to get everything in one place.

Good, GWG was trash and a joke. But it will be just as big of a joke if they just offer you trash from the GP catalog.

If you think there’s only trash in game pass you must just not like video games…….

All Bethesda games, yakuza series, like a dragon, all halo games, all gears games, forza horizon series, a plethora of great indies, etc it’s cool that you are a Sony fan, but don’t be such a silly goose and use at least a smidge of honesty.

Better timing than mine then chief. I believed the hype and bought my Series X almost two years ago which came with two years of GP Ultimate. In that time I played Horizon 5 and HiFi Rush but otherwise, high quality 1st party stuff has been non existent and I've instead replayed older games such as the Gears of War titles etc.

I am now in a spot where my subscription ends in September and I must decide whether to renew or not. I simply cannot justify subscribing for the only potentially worthwhile release they have in Starfield. My plan is to wait till they have a catalogue of 1st party releases that make it worthwhile for me to splash the cash.

I would have to agree. I feel it will be a month to month basis, and based on individual gamepass owner votes. Which games they would like to come to the forefront. IF that is the case I'm all for it. It is a better deal for Gold only owners, and gamepass owners still get the full library of other games to choose from for a bit of a premium price.

I have been month to month with gamepass since it came out, and I applaud Microsoft for their notifications letting me know it will update soon. I can cancel ahead of time if no gamepass titles interest me, and I can cancel then switch to gamepass for a few months before a new big release comes out (hello Hi-Fi Rush!) then cancel again.

It sounds like a bad move up front, but looking at the prices it's a very good deal for all people involved.

Only updates a few times a year, so you're going to go months with no change. $1 more for full game pass, I don't really see the point of this other than to make GWG people pay more.

As we said before, fees, fees, FEES if this is true. Microsoft has plenty of fees waiting for it's player base. Take way something they really didn't support with quality. And give less content for more money.

Prepare to start paying up the ass to pay for the Activision deal. Even though they supposedly got gobs of money. They want you to pay for it. Not them.

Microsoft is looking to get those monthly payers. Not someone that pays annually.

It's a given they are going to make gamers pay for the deal. They didn't buy them out of the kindness of their hearts. It's to make more money in fees. Because it's obvious they don't make money on sales. Or their games wouldn't be landing day one in a service. And sales reporting stopped years ago.

PPL has been complaining about GWG's poor offering for months (myself included) but having them revamp it to a complete collection of decent titles is bad?
Care to explain how this is worse compared to the current offering?

The offerings were poor to get gamers to move over to game pass. That's called grooming. And you fell for it. They could have easily put great games in the service. It wasn't by accident they did that.

1) yep they did try to increase the price and they back out because of ppl concerns
2) And they did remove the paywall for free 2 play because of ppl concerns
3) Are you still paying for the essential things called cloud saves on PlayStation?

Also, I love how you include me in something I don't use for I have been advocating that MS should drop completely Xbox Live GOLD due to the fact that the situation changed a lot since the 360 days due to 3rd parties paying their own servers and similar service being free on PC.
Personally, I play on PC and use game pass on PC

I don't pay for online. Guess again. Haven't for years. And don't miss it. Local play with friends and family is better. Only used it for discounts. Too many flash sales and reductions in price made it obsolete.

Yeah. They removed it after years of forcing gamers to pay for it. Making a big chunk of change. None of you made a peep about it as if it was okay. I said it for years. Multiple times in my previous comments.

I love how you think I'm paying for Sony's just because I support the better platform. You can support something and not agree with something else they offer.

As for Microsoft, you can't say they don't have enough money to have made GWG better. But as usual, they chose to offer less while gamers paid more for less quality.

So Games with Gold is ending. Games with Gold had gotten so bad, I doubt anyone will care. The 25 game catalog sounds a lot like the PlayStation Plus catalog that Sony launched with the PS5 and then sunset this last spring. For longtime subscribers, there were a lot of titles that had already been offered with PlayStation Plus. Will Microsoft’s catalog be fixed for the this generation or do they plan on rotating titles? The pricing is also a big “if”. Microsoft floated the idea of $10/month a few years ago and the outrage sent them back to $60 annual plans. $10/month to play games on-line would be outrageous (especially because games should be free to play on-line). Don’t get greedy, Microsoft. This is how you lost the console war.
