Dev Calls Baldur's Gate 3 An "Anomaly," Says Developing A Similar Project Can Kill Studios

After some RPG fans started considering Baldur’s Gate 3 as the new baseline for the genre, the head of the Strange Scaffold Studios presented some points to prove otherwise.

Just keep in or increase teh amount beastilaity in the game and we are good

Charlieboy3331037d ago

Judging by your name you have a 'fondness' for mice.....or gerbils probably?

HyperMoused1035d ago

Judging by your name you are a boy whos half evil, and named Charlie

Charlieboy3331031d ago

Nice comeback.....especially the 'half evil' part 😂

neutralgamer19921038d ago

Honestly I hope they can deliver because there is a lot of talking and hype behind this game. I for one am very excited because now a days every game has ROG elements very very few are role playing games

Sony should consider acquiring them if they’re mutually interested.

Xbox bought up most other Western rpg studios with Zenimax…. And this outlier studio sounds like they deserve 1st party backing for their next ambitious project.

All studios that push the boundaries for gaming, which gets harder and harder each gen, they deserve to be backed as a 1st party studio, one way or another.

shinoff21831038d ago

Agreed. Sony needs rpg. Wrpg, jrpg something. Screw fps bs

I enjoy Sony’s focus on third-person action games, but I understand why some would prefer a broader focus.

I think Sony wants to be the maker of cinematic games, which I support until they start to turn all of their games into TV shows… idk how Twisted Metal will recreate the game on a tv show budget, and I cringe to think that the GoW show will skip Greek monster Kratos and go straight to the contrasting older Norse Kratos….. the father/son dynamic in the Norse era is much less impactful without the Greek Kratos in one’s memory for contrast, imo.

Considering that the LoU show had the biggest budget of any tv show ever, and they still could only afford a handful of actual action scenes…. I think it is clear that it is too expensive to try to translate video games into live-action mediums.

If anything, animate an adaptation, Sony. But more so, focus on stories in games instead of movies and TV.

I hate that MS has made this the go-to necessity. Those games used to be multi platform like most of the games coming from the other studios they absorbed. It’s the times we live in I suppose.

If Sony had a list of acquisitions I’d like to see it start with Square Enix and From Software.

Zombieburger6381038d ago

Not if it means console exclusive larian games and higher ups having any control over the game. They are a pc first game company and it should stay that way.

sadraiden1037d ago

Divinity Original Sin 2 is on consoles.

Christopher1037d ago

Please, no. We need to keep these studios impartial and not tied to any platform. We're delving into a future that makes for a weaker industry if we keep talking about acquiring more and more studios by hardware manufacturers.

Oooof. I have very little hope for this with how badly they screwed up Season 2. I loved and re-watched the first season of The Las of Us 4-5 times now. Only watched season 2 once and will not be watching Season 3 unless I'm very bored. The fact that Larian isn't involved is also another red flag.

TLOU show creator…oh God

There’s a reason why the show went from “Season 4 and possibly beyond” to “it might end at Season 3”

Daeloki98d ago

I mean regardless of who's making it, there's simply no hope for it.
A) Larian is not involved. This is gonna be pure Hasbro greed.
B) It's a game that largely revolves around player choice, with tons of outcomes and replayability. There is no single canon to translate into a show.
C) It's a high fantasy setting, with spectacular visuals that are going to be very expensive, and also very difficult to get to look actually good in live action.

Only potential they have is if they lean into campiness, make it vibe like old 90's, early 2000's fantasy shows like Xena, Mystic Knights etc. Less epic and more failed skill checks, "wrong" choices.

dmonee98d ago

From what I have read, The Last of Us season 2 woes, was because of Neil Druckman. I have hope for season 3 now that he is out if the equation. I have hope for BG live action show. Its also being worked in by the team that did Chernobyl.

Shaky Relationship meaning Hasbro wanted an even larger cut of the pie moving forward. Also why we're not getting BG4 w/Larian. Hasbro just wanted to bleed them dry.

Michiel1989125d ago

no im pretty sure it was related to the people from hasbro that helped with the game getting fired or that only the people from Larian were eligible for bonusses and Larian didn't fuck with that

Christopher124d ago

The people from Hasbro were fired by Hasbro. Why would non-workers on a game get bonuses for not having worked on the game (meaning anyone at Hasbro)?

repsahj126d ago (Edited 126d ago )

Because they are busy for the next Divinity game on Switch 2. Fine by me because I already have BG3 on my PS5, and believe me or not, I didn't finish it. Considering I bought the Deluxe edition to play it ahead of everyone. XD

gigoran8125d ago

if this were able to run on the switch 2, then theoretically the PS4 pro should be able to as well. can't wait for that port

Neonridr124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

you do realize that in terms of numbers it might be on par with a PS4 Pro. However, GPU wise, it has a much larger feature set available to it. The PS4 Pro couldn't even run FSR natively.

Terry_B124d ago

Yeah..I doubt BG3 would run well on the Switch 2.
