Microsoft Engineers Helping Get Baldur's Gate 3 Split-Screen Working on Xbox Series S

IGN speaks to Larian to reveal why Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X and S is taking so long.

Shadowsteal1059d ago

They couldn't even get Redfall or Starfield running at 60 fps. Doubt they'll get very far here.

Ugh. As a big couch coop fan, it sucks to hear that S is not only holding it back on Xbox, it could very well hold it back on PS due to the MS parity clause!

raWfodog1059d ago

Nope, PS5 version is dropping on Sept 6th, same day that Starfield releases.

zaanan1059d ago

“it” refers to couch coop in that sentence. If this is happening with BG3, there is a nonzero chance it’s happening with other multiplats.

raWfodog1059d ago

If you’re referring to local split-screen on PS5, then again, nope, it will release as designed on PC and PS5. PS5 was pushed back a week only to perfect 60fps. The MS parity clause is only referring to XBX and XBS having the same features.

SonyStyled1059d ago

You mean XB1X and XB Series, or XBSX and XBSS?

raWfodog1059d ago (Edited 1059d ago )

Yeah, I meant Series X and Series S. The game is not being released for any last-gen systems.

zaanan1057d ago

Are you being dense on purpose, or do you just lack reading comprehension?

As explained above, the first comment was referring to couch coop IN GENERAL, meaning for ALL multiplatform games.

The second comment clarified this, explaining it applied to “other multiplats” as well. Your insistence that BG3 was not held up on PS ignores the plain meaning that numerous other games might not be able to get couch coop working on S either and therefore drop it from their X version, which could easily lead to it being dropped from the PS version as well.

Are we now finally on the same page?

raWfodog1057d ago

@zaanan

"Are you being dense on purpose, or do you just lack reading comprehension?"

Are those my only two options?

zaanan1055d ago

@rawdog
so you’re being dense on purpose, got it.

raWfodog1055d ago

@zaanan
Hope you got some closure. You seem to be holding onto this longer than I’d expect.

***it could very well hold it back on PS due to the MS parity clause!***

Just FYI, the parity clause from the last generation regarding Indie games and Microsoft pretty much did away with it a year after talking about it and moved onto 'just come and talk to us' mode. That parity clause was also about a same-day release, not the same feature.

So, there is no 'parity clause' element here, otherwise Larian wouldn't be able to have a release date on PS5 w/o one for Series X (they obviously have one). Larian can release whenever they want and Xbox can help them to get the game to work on the Series S or face not having it released there at all or at a much later time.

zaanan1056d ago

I meant the requirement that it have some form of parity between X and S… I might have gotten the “name” wrong.

S2Killinit1059d ago

Hah xbox holding everybody back… how about they leave that last gen box so the rest of us can play?

A Baldur’s Gate TV series is set to follow on from Baldur’s Gate 3

Hasbro and The Last of Us show's co-creator are developing a Baldur’s Gate TV series that'll follow on from the events of Baldur's Gate 3.

Oooof. I have very little hope for this with how badly they screwed up Season 2. I loved and re-watched the first season of The Las of Us 4-5 times now. Only watched season 2 once and will not be watching Season 3 unless I'm very bored. The fact that Larian isn't involved is also another red flag.

TLOU show creator…oh God

There’s a reason why the show went from “Season 4 and possibly beyond” to “it might end at Season 3”

Daeloki109d ago

I mean regardless of who's making it, there's simply no hope for it.
A) Larian is not involved. This is gonna be pure Hasbro greed.
B) It's a game that largely revolves around player choice, with tons of outcomes and replayability. There is no single canon to translate into a show.
C) It's a high fantasy setting, with spectacular visuals that are going to be very expensive, and also very difficult to get to look actually good in live action.

Only potential they have is if they lean into campiness, make it vibe like old 90's, early 2000's fantasy shows like Xena, Mystic Knights etc. Less epic and more failed skill checks, "wrong" choices.

dmonee109d ago

From what I have read, The Last of Us season 2 woes, was because of Neil Druckman. I have hope for season 3 now that he is out if the equation. I have hope for BG live action show. Its also being worked in by the team that did Chernobyl.

Shaky Relationship meaning Hasbro wanted an even larger cut of the pie moving forward. Also why we're not getting BG4 w/Larian. Hasbro just wanted to bleed them dry.

Michiel1989136d ago

no im pretty sure it was related to the people from hasbro that helped with the game getting fired or that only the people from Larian were eligible for bonusses and Larian didn't fuck with that

Christopher135d ago

The people from Hasbro were fired by Hasbro. Why would non-workers on a game get bonuses for not having worked on the game (meaning anyone at Hasbro)?

repsahj137d ago (Edited 137d ago )

Because they are busy for the next Divinity game on Switch 2. Fine by me because I already have BG3 on my PS5, and believe me or not, I didn't finish it. Considering I bought the Deluxe edition to play it ahead of everyone. XD

gigoran8136d ago

if this were able to run on the switch 2, then theoretically the PS4 pro should be able to as well. can't wait for that port

Neonridr135d ago (Edited 135d ago )

you do realize that in terms of numbers it might be on par with a PS4 Pro. However, GPU wise, it has a much larger feature set available to it. The PS4 Pro couldn't even run FSR natively.

Terry_B135d ago

Yeah..I doubt BG3 would run well on the Switch 2.
