Stray Comes to Xbox This August

Announced during today's Annapurna Interactive showcase, Stray is coming to Xbox on August 10.

Awesome news, but how a propos to see two timed exclusives show themselves as timed exclusives on the exact same day. All these companies are the same. And their competition benefits us as long as it's done on a fair playing field.

4Sh0w1071d ago (Edited 1071d ago )

Agreed. I was just saying the same thing on the other thread, a lil more too. At this point folks should be used to it...its literally how the console business and most business's in fact have always worked.

jznrpg1071d ago

Not the same.

Nobody is trying to buy publishers taking them away from others and calling them exclusives except MS.

Christopher1071d ago (Edited 1071d ago )

I think you missed part of my comment.

GhostScholar1071d ago

So you can’t buy a publisher, but you can pay them to not put the game on other systems I.e. what Sony has done with square? Cool……makes sense…….I couldn’t care less if someone loves Sony or Microsoft or Nintendo, but when your fan boyism strips you of rational thought you may have a problem.

So much for PlayStation keeping games away from Xbox.. more and more it appears as if it is up to the developers after the agreement ends.

darthv721071d ago

.... (looks at scorn ps5 announcement) likewise

Crows901071d ago

Isn't the argument that Sony keeps games away from xbox? The other way around not exactly the same they just bought a bunch of third-party developers to keep games away from PlayStation...

darthv721071d ago

gotta admit, the timing of these two couldnt have been more purrfect. Scorn (an XBGP exclusive) being announced for PS on the same day that Stray (a PS+ exclusive) gets announced for XB. Yes... both sides do deals to get content.

andy851071d ago

Didn't Stray say console exclusive for a limited time in the trailer? I don't remember Scorn saying that, just that it was exclusive.

lelo2play1071d ago

After a year, very few people really care about timed exclusives.
That's the problem with timed exclusives, hardly anybody cares about those games after the timed exclusive period.

-Foxtrot1071d ago

I think it really just depends how the game does

lelo2play1071d ago

Take the example of the Rise of the Tomb Raider one year Xbox exclusivity. After that time, Sony gamers really didn't care about purchasing the game.

jznrpg1071d ago

@leloplay3 Rise of the Tomb Raider wasn’t as good as the first game so that’s also part of it.

Seraphim1071d ago (Edited 1071d ago )

@ lelo2play -

"For context, the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot sold 3.4 million copies during its release month of March 2013 at retail alone, across multiple platforms. Despite this, Square Enix claimed actually failed to reach sales targets for the month. The game went on to sell over 8.5 million copies by 2015. Rise of the Tomb Raider sold 1 million copies at launch as an Xbox One console exclusive, however by November 2017 (after the game had come to PlayStation 4) the game had sold over 7 million copies. Given how much of a sales boost the game received on PS4, it's hard to imagine that this timed exclusivity did much to drive Xbox One sales."

The hype beast may have been slayed by a year later, but if a game is good-great, gamers are still going to buy/play it regardless of when it releases.

lelo2play1071d ago (Edited 1071d ago )

@Seraphim
What that tells us is the game released in 2015 selling one million on the Xbox at launch. 2 years later the game had sold 7 million on all platforms.

So... in 2017...
How many copies did it sell on Xbox (it didn't stop at 1 million at launch)?
How many copies did it sell on PC?
How many copies did it sell on Playstation (game released in 2016)?

and the big question is...
Did the game have good sales on Playstation after the 1 year exclusivity deal?

I still remember at the time all the fuss about the 1 year exclusivity deal, and most PS gamers claiming they wouldn't purchase the game.

Especially as it seems to not be announced for Gamepass as of yet, if ever.

Crows901071d ago

Well that's not exactly true. If you grab examples of bad games yeah that would be problematic. They do all of their advertising for a timed exclusive launch. Then when they're about to release on another platform they barely do any kind of advertising. It's not so much that people don't care is that they don't even realize or it's not being advertised. That or is also that the game isn't that great to begin with. Rise of the tomb Raider was okay but not mind blowing. Imagine a Spider-Man for the PS4 suddenly released on the xbox. I think a lot of people would care not because of the exclusivity thing but because it is a good game. They would also care because of the exclusivity thing but that's not the point I'm making.

Take starfield for instance. If we assume that it is going to be at least an 8 out of 10 game across the board when or if it releases on PlayStation I'm pretty sure it would sell a ton. Even if it's one year after launch

4Sh0w1071d ago

.....sure if its a game you really can't wait to play I imagine thats a bummer, but most of the time most of us have a backlog anyway, and if it's a good game, I will still play it when I can get to it.

A good game is a good game, no matter when you play it.

CantThinkOfAUsername1071d ago

Rise of the Tomb Raider went from 1M to 7M thanks to PS players, but you're clowning yourself as usual.

Tacoboto1071d ago

Oblivion
Bioshock
Mass Effect 1
The GTA IV campaign DLC on Xbox
GTA III - San Andreas on PS2
... Rise of the Tomb Raider
The content of The Orange Box finally moving off PC

As Foxtrot says, it depends. Great games are worth playing, whether it's for where they first release or where they eventually release.

The more people that get to play the better! Such a great game

jznrpg1071d ago

My youngest daughter is obsessed with all things Cat since we have a cat and she loves him like he’s her personal rag doll.

She had me play it mostly but she played also and it was a fun little game. I may not have played it otherwise

Review: Stray (Switch) – A Brilliant Game Lands On Its Feet With A Solid Switch Port| NintendoLife

"Stray won’t challenge you, frustrate you, or take up too much of your time. Perhaps that’s why we enjoyed it so much. It plays like an open-world point-and-click paired with largely on-rails action sequences. Some minor gripes and expected disparities between the Switch port and versions elsewhere aside, as we sauntered around its post-apocalyptic environments on all fours, Stray did an impeccable job of making us want to talk to everyone and explore everything it had to offer – and we had an appetite for more once it was all over. To us, that’s the mark of a compelling adventure." - Nile Bowie | NintendoLife
