SONY will try to recuperate losses and build the PS3 install base. I highly doubt the system will be released in 2012, it's more likely were going to hear about the plan to build a new Playstation rather then it's release.

Lets look at the reasons gameplayer has listed to merit a PS4.

We can avoid the hefty installations if the developers were more like Naughty Dog and Guerrilla Games. Personally to me its not a huge problem, considering it takes equal time or longer to install a game on the PC. For those whining about the amount of free space left, i suggest you go out and purchase a larger hard drive. We all know that the future of gaming on PS3 and 360 will be more games *stand alone and DLC* movies, music, purchasable through the store.

They also mention a redesign of the PS six axis controller, just in time for the supposed armageddon/end of the world. Luckily for us, this design will only work after we transform into hideous beasts.

i dont think that it will be released by 2012. i think it will go for the full lifespan that sony says. (i think it was 10 yrs?) the new graphic cards will barely be coming out in 2012. it would be wiser to hold back on the release of the ps4. they would probably make more money if they held out.(since everything will be cheaper.)

There's just so many things wrong with this article.

Sony determines when nex-gen begins.

It will be an enhanced version of the PS3 with full backwards compatability so the two can exist together on store shelves at the same time. Look for it to be based on the PS3, but with more system memory and a faster Blu-Ray drive. The Cell will most likely be tweaked just to give it a new marketing name. I expect this console to launch for $399 or less. By that time Sony will be making a profit on PS3 hardware sales and the jump in technology won't be enough to drive up manufacturing costs past the retail price. It should be a money maker from day one or close to it.

In reality there wouldn't be much of a need for new hardware, but they will still need to put something out there that is marketed towards the hard core that would be tempted with a next gen console. Sony will not be late to the next party and they will not over price themselves with risky tech.

On topic: I think in the current economic climate will keep new systems on the drawing board a bit longer. We'll probably see a Wii 2 before the next Xbox or Playstation. Luckily, both systems still have a lot of life left in them.

Didn't they say that the ps3 was built to addon components? I mean i would show a link but this was like 2 and a half years ago. Just saying they wouldn't need a ps4 for a while... All thats really missing is ram.

I'm not really all that interested when PS4 comes out because I love my PS3 and plan on loving it for at least six or seven more years. Guys just think of all that we have yet to experience on PS3: Twisted Metal, God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Final Fantasy 13 and Final Fantasy 13 versus, White Knight Story, Killzone 2, MAG, Kingdom Hearts 3 (hopefully), Final Fantasy 7 remake (hopefully), DC online MMO, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Exclusive games coming from Team Ico, Whatever Incognito is working on, Resident Evil 5, Streetfighter 4, Infamous, more Ratchet and Clank games, Resistance 3 (heard a third is on the plate), Star Wars Battlefront (hopefully), do I even need to continue? My brain hurts. Come on guys just don't worry about it. PS4 will come at a time we're all ready for it and that time is definitely not gonna be anytime soon.

Stay away from the media and the bs articles like this and check the facts. PS3 has so far sold 20 mil to 360's 28 mil. Is that a stomping considering 360's price drop, rrod issues(pretty sure there were people buying multiple consoles cuz theirs rrod'd), and the 360's year+ head start? PSN has already damn near caught up to 360's subscribers, not to mention it's FREE and this is the best 360 can do?

I remember when it was more about the games and recently with the current HD consoles, it seems we have lost track of our gaming values. JoedAngel has the right idea; who cares about maxing out a system - it's about the games. Right now, the PS3 is getting some really good games and do I care if those titles are pushing the system to the max: nope. Do not get me wrong, I think that graphics are an important and all but it's not the whole package, just a part of it.

Also you don't need to release a new machine to have a new interface; look the NXE on the 360. It's a new interface and it is the same machine, just with a gui upgrade. So if you can do it with the 360, it is no problem for the PS3. Why not have it where the PS3 owners can have a choice of gui configurations and they can choose from any number of types.

Last but not least, I wouldn't put a date on when the PS4 would be released; it is far too soon to be even talking about it. The Playstation 3 only came out two years ago or so, give it some time to grow and spread out. It is making some serious strides recently and the upcoming year shows that it might have a better time then ever. But in the end this article is just a part of a larger problem with the current gen gamers right now; what's the next big thing? When is the more powerful system coming out? I think we should stop being the type of people to be looking forward; we should be looking at the hardware we have now and how the developers can maximize the gameplay expirences.

i'm still waiting for the xbox 360 to get out of hardware beta testing.

Do you honestly and truly believe that the PS3 is going to flop and that there will be no PS4? I have been reading articles and comments on N4g for a while now w/out commenting and am really dumbfounded by some of the reasoning that goes on. I don't understand why people wish and hope so hard for the PS3 to fail. I went through 6 360's before I finally realized that I had been taken for a ride. (5 RR'd on me and I smashed 1 out of frustration and fury from it freezing and eating my disks.) I don't hate Microsoft, I just won't buy any of their consoles ever again. Why would they release another system when they aren't currently making money off of their current system? Maybe they think this will be their saving grace....But if no one is buying it now, what makes them think someone will by a new one? Freakin A! The console gap needs to widen, they are depending too much on tech and not on GOOD GAMES! And this goes for ALL the devs and pubs.
The next consoles should be out in 2015. An adequate enough time to make great games and people actually catch up with current gen.

I cant believe this. Right, PS3 and 360 gamers are basically on the same wave length. We appreciate hardcore games like GOW and Killzone, Halo and Resistance, whatever your preference we both look for similar things.I have a 360, a wii and a PS3. My son uses the Wii, I refuse to play it as i grew up in an era when Nintendo actually cared about gamers, now they just release toilet and everyone (including me) buy one just to keep the kids quiet. I have a PS3 and a 360. I use my 360 for gaming and my PS3 pretty much as a bluray player. I will explain why.

I bought the 360 because I migrated from PS2 to Xbox when I tried out PSN and Xbox live back in 2004. Xbox live on the Xbox 1 is still ahead of the PSN on the PS3 and im not even exaggerating when I say that. There is so much to say when It comes to the PS3 vs 360 debate but like I said earlier we all like the same thing, decent hardcore games, decent grafix, playability and lastability. You just dont get any of this with a PS3 game. I enjoy playing Halo, GOW, PGR4, Pro Evo, GTA 4. I get good lastability out of these games thanks to the superbness that is xbox live. THe PSN is absolute toilet. I have been anticipating HOME for ages, since I shelled out £425 for my PS3 nearly 2 years ago! Delay after delay after delay, it arrives and im initially impressed with it. But then after about 3 times of going on it it becomes clear, all you can actually do is play pool, chess, draughts and some awful arcade games and that's about it. Long and short of it is that I'm bored after about 2 hours total of being on it. I saw my mate was playing FIFA so I went to send him an invite from HOME but it wont let me, WHY THE HELL NOT? The PSN still doesnt have the ability to send invites like this? The xbox 1 did. You can;'t cross game voice chat, you cant create parties. You can't download films (In UK anyway), there are 293 films for download on xbox live. The graphics, they're actually at least as good if not better on 360 so why does everyone bang on about how good the PS3 grafix are? Show me? Where? LBP was a let down, it's a kdis game and its boring, MGS4 was in the bargain bin a week after release, all sony's big titles have flopped and I can see why, because the PS2 released mediocre garbage and the PS3 is doing likewise. They rave about the bluray player, I was in blockbuster the other day and they're selling a bluray player for £149!! Oh dear Sony, there goes a hell of a load more sales now that Bluray players are coming down in price. All multi format games are either better or same graphics on 360, better online suppport GUARANTEED and more people are on xbox live so more gamers to play with, more content available for download and achievements kick ass over trophies. I ask PS fanboys to tell me why the PS3 is better for games? Please dont tell me that in the year 2020 when GT5 comes out that it will be amazing, you'll probably find out it will flop like all the other games. ALso dont tell me about the potential, tell me why 2 years in the graphics havent exceeded the 360's?? And the 360 has already won this gen (against the PS3) we're 3 years into the 360's life and by my reckoning the PS3 needs to outsell the 360 2 or 3 to 1 for the next 2 years to claw back some respect.

I think the PS3 is doing pretty good, free online,battery free wireless controllers and great exclusives finally hitting the system and seems to have more life expectancy than the 360. 360 was the better system by far the first couple years, but i seriously think the PS3 has improved and has become better than the 360 in alot of ways. The Wii on the other hand is dominating the market because it is mainly for everyone and not too advanced and intense as the other 2 consoles.

According to OXM magazine a while back around the time when Gears Of War was first being developed, the Xbox 360 was designed around Gears of War the 360 went from having 256mb of internal memory to having 512mb (FACT) go do some research and you will find this to be true so yes the Xbox360 was maxed out in november 2006 with Gears of War!!!!!! this is undeniably the reason why there is nothing that looks better on the 360 then Gears, end of dissuasion end of story.
