Diablo 4's First Hardcore Level 100 Player Loses Character to Disconnect

Explore the tragic tale of Diablo 4's first level 100 hardcore player, whose character was lost due to an unfortunate disconnect.

CrimsonWing69953d ago

That’s seriously a bummer to me. Like all that work and something out of your control takes away all that progress. It’d be hard to be motivated to go back after that.

just_looken953d ago

What is not reported is that he is one of many and a new bug is around were you can no longer use your powers.

Check out adsmongold video showing 3 of these towards the end.

Bobertt952d ago

I heard it was cause Blizzard had a bug which didn't let people buy stuff from the shop so they pushed the update without warning to not lose sales which disconnected people from the server. It's almost poetic the most dedicated Blizzard simp gets hurt by Blizzard's greed.

just_looken952d ago

@bob

Ha would not put it past them :)

PhillyDillyDee953d ago

This is why im not interested in any hardcore modes in games. Too much can be lost for a reason that might end up out of your control

lukasmain953d ago

That's why I regularly upload my save game info to the cloud on PS5 because I'm a little paranoid about this shit happening lol

Extermin8or3_953d ago

Won't help you on a game where your characters are stored server side not locally...

dumahim953d ago

That doesn't save you from losing a permadeath character.

ModsDoBetter953d ago

@dumahim

In the case of Diablo IV, that’s correct; however, in many, many other games it absolutely does save you. Dead Space remake or Diablo 2 Remake. Uploading your save to the cloud protects from some of those permadeath mechanics.

lukasmain953d ago (Edited 953d ago )

@ Extermin8or3_, ahh yes you're right. My bad. Still, I do this for single player games lol

All the gear and all the time spent are now wasted. Online-only and hardcore characters are a match made in hell, that's for sure. Few hiccups with your internet connection or something happening on Blizzard servers and you might say «Bye-bye» to all your work.

Weird that Blizzard doesn't have an autosave/backup in case of a confirmed server error (this was a confirmed server error, right?). But maybe that's done on purpose, who knows.

staticall953d ago

Blizzard themselves, who else? More than sure they have all sorts of telemetry and logs, 24/7 support teams, emergency alerts in case of ANY problems. Especially if this is a special case, quote, "first level 100 hardcore player" (and this can be used as a positive PR for their newely released game).

SullysCigar953d ago

If this happened to me, there's no way I'd bother playing again.

Nerdmaster953d ago

That's the main reason why I stopped playing D3, and why I'll never bother with D4. Hardcode mode is the only mode in which I actually have fun in Diablo (without the perma-death there's absolutely no downside to dying), but losing my character because of connection or server issues is unacceptable.

It could either be a new IP, or a long dormant IP that we don't know about. A deep piece of lore that nobody has picked up on. If it's a new IP, what the point of doing this teaser? Nobody will figure it out and it's weird marketing. I'll say it's a old IP making a comeback.

MIDGETonSTILTS1745d ago

The only game I can think of that involves a wolf and a crocodile might be Rampage, but there is no way their rebooting that IP like this

lukasmain45d ago

Could it be SAROS ??? Looks like it might be part of that world design. Alien architecture idk

Lightning7745d ago

Saros? No need to keep that secret we've already seen it plus that announcement wouldn't be received well. I mean PS fans would like it I guess.

Lightning7745d ago (Edited 45d ago )

Deeper analysis on it. If an old IP. It's definitely not in the past 10 years. I think it's a game from the past 20+ years. Why? Well nobody so far is able to figure out what this statue is. Which brings me to think it could be niche 20+ plus year old game. Again New IP? I mean viral marketing can happen but this type of. Marketing makes 0 sense so the chance of a new game are very Slim. IMO of course.

Do I think it's a big game. Tbh it's geoff. Though tbh he's gotten allot better at hyping and tempering expections. I think it'll be divided, niche title that some will be crazy excited for it others will be scratching heads or pissed off. Reception, divided.

No expectations at this point

anast106d ago

? All they had to do is improve on Diablo 2 and not reskin a cellphone game.

Michiel1989106d ago

why do you make it so evident you never even touched or looked at D4. The mobile game is a reskin of 3. There is still plenty you can trash the game for tho, but that will require you into knowing what the game actually is.

If anything the "skin" of the game, aka the visuals is about the only redeeming part of the fkn game.

Christopher104d ago (Edited 104d ago )

1. Don't lock seasons. Let people switch between them and experience the content at their leisure.

2. Stop locking appearance items behind paywalls. You've even made it so you can't unlock as much as before, making it apparent you don't care about giving the content to people, just forcing them to pay for it. Do you think people care about working through new content if they're not going to get anything out of it unless they give your money? The store is littered with money only cosmetics, keep the seasonal stuff obtainable without money.

3. Make every build viable. This game is a big cookie cutter reliant game and you haven't grasped the idea that people want power fantasies and not limitations. But then you expect them to keep rolling up new characters? Make it make sense.

Retroman102d ago

Rather play Diablo 3 instead of 4 to much cut scenes not enouh gameplay for me
