I want a Steamdeck, but it's not available in my country yet unless I pay a fortune that amounts to more than my PS5 and half my gaming PC. If this reaches my shores at a relatively affordable price I'll grab one just to use my damn PlayStation while my two kids hog my precious LG C1 to watch unspeakable YouTube videos. However it all depends on the price and essential functionality; it better have proper DualSense features, a good battery life and a bright, high resolution screen since its sacrificing everything else about handhelds these days.

And no, I never want to game on my phone.

I’m sorry but this thing is dumb. A single purpose device that is Wi-Fi only and needs to be on the same network as a ps5… just use your tablet and get a Backbone controller. No need to also buy this dumb thing. DOA. Should at least be able to do cloud streaming via Wi-Fi/cellular. The fact that it has to be on the same network severely limits the practicality and return on investment of this device.

The only purpose of Project Q is to test the ability to create a Cloud version of the PlayStation network where the user is forced to only use PlayStation products from the PlayStation store.
When you see it that way suddenly it's quite obvious why Sony is fighting so hard against the MS/Activision merger and most importantly making sure COD stays the same.

The article tries to shill as much as possible that Project Q is not a CLOUD console when in fact it is 100% that.
Saying you can only use Wifi still does not change the fact that will communicate with the PS5 via TCP IP (Internet Protocol) and both devices will need an IP (given by your router) to establish a connection.
To explain, this making a phone call in your area code or making a long-distance call still equals making a phone call where you are not talking face-to-face.

To me, it makes a lot of sense.
Look at Switch users, they mostly play at home but NOT on their TV.
I'm sure many people would like to play from their bed or play while your family members are watching TV.
Many people don't even know that remote play exists or have tried it and weren't convince because an iPhone display is small and the phone can overheat + that dumb notch.
And those controllers you can buy (backbone and others) aren't as good as dualsense.

Seems like this is primarily aimed at kids and teens who don't own mobile phones or computers and share a TV with the family for everyone else there's remote play on literally every other device from android, iOS to windows.

I don't buy a Netflix box to watch Netflix because I have a hundred Netflix capable devices Sony just need a smart tv app and that will complete the remote play app loop

It's basically another controller option that enables access to remote-play directly.

I bought a Backbone about two months ago and It’s really great. It’s small, easily portable and works just fine. BUT, the analog sticks are not as good as the ones on Dualsense, so this is he only reason I might think about Project Q. You have much more control with the bigger sticks on Dualsense - in FPS games this is a significant difference, especially when you’re used to the super great DS sticks.

I love my PS5.. But what are they thinking?
Unless its $99 , (which I know it probably wont be) , As I can play remote on other devices, that also support controllers....it seems worthless, except to those that pushed the idea at Sony.

I'm think this is a by product of a ultra low latency wireless psvr2 adapter. Project Q won't cost alot to make if the development was for another project, battery, hardware based video decompression. 8 inch screens are cheap and the controller has had as little thought about it as possible.

Its for gaming parents who can’t play on the TV because the kids are hogging it. In my case anyway.

Sony and their handheld device decisions. I swear they meet and say, "how can we best show incompetence in the handheld space?"

The main selling point I see with this is the screen size and the more ergonomic design compared to the alternative. The price is what is key and on the high end, I don't think it should cost more than $150.

here in japan the backbone one price is around 19800yen around 150$, so if they priced this right around 20000 - 25000yen i probably might get it. But if this device is for remote play only its gonna flop hard.

People are declaring DOA status because although no one knows its price I think it’s a safe bet that it’ll cost £199 at least, and it’s unlikely to be that cheap. And there already exists a free solution that almost everyone has, that being remote play and a phone/laptop/tablet with a dual shock/dual sense controller.

So the question remains… why would anyone buy this?

It’s a complete non product, solving no problems for no people.

Can’t wait to see that price though, I’ll be shocked if it’s £199. I’d guess at £249 to £299

I played remote play for the first time today, star wars Jedi survivor on it. It works flawlessly.

Wuchang is great. Nine Sols didn’t have a physical copy so I never played it but I’ve heard good things so I will check it out. I stopped playing sports games many years ago when before the card dlc’s or whatever they’re called.
