Gotta say that it's a great time to be a gamer. Sure, not all the "free" games are great, and some I have played, but having those games on that list that I never really thought of, or just never gave a chance, and now they offered with my online subscription, makes them ALL something to play.
I give the nod to MS this month. I cannot fire up Tomb Raider fast enough. What a great game to get for free, or rather with gold.

Please don't start another thread of lists of games 90% of which the commenters have probably never even hard of, paragraphs of hate and fact checking and stat posting and sales figures being deep-throated and the cowpat piles of 'indiestation' and 'xboners' being thrown across the thread at eachother and the donwplaying of exclusives
Topics like this are literally ONLY based in opinion. Some people, and there's plenty, don't give a toss about tomb raider, crysis, deer god etc and some people only care about titles such as super time force etc (amazing game btw). You decide as an individual gamer. The title 'showdown' just shows how journalists love to create arguments.
Personally, I prefer Xbox's this month, but I've played all of the ones given away except Deer god, PS has more stuff I haven't played except STFU (not that kind of STFU), so I can't really decide on who has best quality to me, but from what I know, have played and have seen of all of the games, Xbox takes it for me this month. Loved Crysis 3, Tomb raider I loved and I must have spent over 150 hours on battletstation pacific as a kid
Did you bother reading the article? It specifically says that there are a ton of great free games this month, but that tomb raider is the type of AAA title you don't often see on these lists.
Also see that the article is tagged as an opinion piece.

1st of all you never played Super Time Force Ultra, you played Super Time Force, it's different. Ultra is a different version of the game, a better version.
2nd, do you realize you are countering your argument that xbox had the better month by describing how much you have played all the games with gold prior to them being free? So many ppl have played Tomb Raider between the original and the definitive edition i can't imagine that it's a great addition for many, for the 10 million that have already played it. Do u think ur the only 1 to have played out 3 of the 4 GwG games? That lessens the value considerably, considering 3 of the 6 PS+ games are new releases PlayStation obviously doesn't have that problem.
Battlestations is almost 7 yrs old, it released in 2009, are they really giving 6-7 yr old games on GwG still? Imo Battlestations is a very poor addition.
PS+ has a considerably better lineup imo, it gives you 4 quality PS4 games while GwG gives you 1 quality xbone game.
You get 6 games with PS+ compared to 4 with GwG.
3 new releases with PS+ compared to 1 with GwG.
When PS+ gave us Crysis 3 and Tomb Raider free over a yr ago i had already owned them. Over a yr later i'm sure many xbox users will have the same problem.
It's a better month than many of the spring/summer have been for GwG, but PS+ clearly has the better selection this month. 6 good games. La Mulana, STFU, and Twisted Metal were the highlights for me until i played Teslagrad, that game is phenomenal. I adore this month.

September may not be seller but they are decent titles.
There's also the Forza 6 demo, which will be available sometime tomorrow... and Dying Light just got a demo as well - it's suprisingly intense.
I'm keen to check out Crysis and Battlestations (not so sure about 'the Deer God') and I love Tomb Raider... Lara's parents must have been really, really, ridiculously good-looking.

Dying light was great fun on ps4. If you're thinking of getting it on xbox, I recommend the demo. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
Games with Gold has come a long way and now adding BC it will be one of the best services available.
Lately Gold games are quite better than Plus one's, and that's coming from someone who is exclusively a Playstation owner.
Yea for a long time PS Plus games were superior in terms of value at least, but xbox live GwG has finally surpassed it. Now hopefully Sony will respond by improving their promotions as well, benefits of good competition!
We've already had tomb raider free. Xbox is just copying sony from months ago. Gwg hasn't surpassed sony. You are just now getting four games a month recently. We've been getting 6 games. As for BC, it's not as compelling considering that a lot of the multiplayer servers for those titles will be shut down, or are shutting down. It won't last forever.

My PS plus subscription ran out... And I have a bunch of games that I downloaded I'm not allowed to play. That sucks.
You only keep the 360 games, and not the X1 ones. You know that once you renew your PS+ you get access back to all those games you have downloaded.
It was for PS3. MS also gave it away on 360 I think? Still, for a current gen goodie it's quite good, though I also got mine for free from a friend.
Considering I pay £21 a yr for gold and £36 a year for ps+ gold on cd keys Xbox live is a absolute steal with gwg

Just stop. Deer God is new. The new version of TR is new. Battlestations is new. Crysis 3 is the only "mostly similarly title."
On an unrelated note, I hope PS+ users enjoy Super Time Force. I had a good bit of fun playing through it when it came to GWG months ago.
0h my bad, it's the new version of tomb raider. Wow, so some added content on an old game that's already been played on my x360 and ps4. The complaint was a 15 euro difference and everyone here in the comments act like xbl is doing new things, when they are just copying their competitors at this point. You're delusional for calling me a fan boy. All I stated were facts. Stating facts don't make you a fanboy, being ignorant to the facts do. Deer God and Battlestar ions are the only ones worth mentioning, but sony has their own games like grow home they give away free next month. Point is, quit trying to paint xbox better than ps4, when in reality they are both good. Trying to sit there and say gwg is better than ps plus free games, is stupid. They are the same thing. They have the same business model, except with plus, you get new titles for free, and that's commonplace.

well xbox also got Assassin's creed 4 which wasn't on PS4. The point was that PS Plus games have been better yes, but not anymore. Whether they're equal or better depends on preference.
But considering xbox 360 games will also be available on Xbox that's big advantage. PS Plus has been giving more games, but only one or two of them are are actually considerable.

Yeah the first is a good game
First game to get the crazy hours of MP from me and my friend since socom 2. This game is in my top 15 of all time and would still play this everyday if the competiton was more and not so weak in skill. I mean by that Im not this amazing player or anything but I cant stand when people leave after like 10mins because they cant compete it takes 15-20mins to find a game (well 3 months ago)maybe more 30 mins to get 2 other people in the room and then them quit after they lose a ship or 2.
Once again great great great game IMHO anyone ever wanna play against me and my buddy my Tag is in my profile send a invite and a note saying your from N4g and we can get a war going : )
By the way Surigao strait and coral sea are my favorite maps then islands and the new level (To bad it wasnt free so more people woul dhave gotten it)
