To move VR Gaming from niche to mass market adoption, Sony must provide PSVR 2 Games on the same level as their AAA flatscreen brethern.

Well, the issue with the PSVR2 will not be resolved by having more games during the holidays. The issue with the PSVR2 is one of price, the amount of people willing to pay that amount of money for an accessory is small and even for VR enthusiasts is a hard sell as the device is stuck on the Playstation Ecosystem.

But we will see for sure once Sony reveals the 5 months' sales of the headset. With that data, we can at least compare it 1:1 with the original hardware. And while the original PSVR was definitely not a great success, it did move a reasonable amount of units.

MIDGETonSTILTS171104d ago

We know how sales compare…. Psvr2 is selling faster

Vits1104d ago

We know how sales compare based on a single data point that is not 1:1 and was purposely chosen for a reason. Hence why we need more data.

Vits1103d ago

Then why you don't link it?

Babadook71104d ago (Edited 1104d ago )

"hard sell as the device is stuck on the Playstation Ecosystem."

Nah. PSVR had great quality and so will PSVR2. It's not a big deal to be "stuck" on a platform offering some of the best games you can play in VR for half the price.

Vits1104d ago

It's not half the price if you have to buy a new "processor box" for another $500. That is why being stuck on a console ecosystem is an issue. The device doesn't cost $550, it cost $1050.

The only people that don't see it are the few that already have a PS5 and are also interested in VR. Which given how low attach rate for the original hardware was. Is probably not that many.

MIDGETonSTILTS171104d ago

Vits, what’s your cheaper alternative?

Vits1103d ago

@MIDGETonSTILTS17

Don't know man, maybe the most-sold VR Headset to date. Maybe the Pico units, perhaps the newer released Pimax hybrid?

Though I'm pretty sure you gonna say that those don't count. That is what fanboys normally do.

Babadook71103d ago (Edited 1103d ago )

“It's not half the price if you have to buy a new "processor box" for another $500”

Yes. It’s half the price of an equivalent PC headset. Valve Index for example. And the processor box here is also half the price of a comparable PC. If you claim you happen to own a gaming pc and not a ps5 (as some anecdotal and irrelevant info) that’s called cherry picking. I could do the same in reverse. Fail.

“maybe the most-sold VR Headset to date”

Quest 2? Not comparable in visual quality. Fail.

Vits1103d ago

"That is called cherry picking"

Says the guy that cherry pick a specific set of PC VR Headsets to compare it to.

"Not comparable in visual quality"

And remember kids. If you move goalposts you are not a person, you are a fanboy and your opinion is invalid by default.

Babadook71103d ago (Edited 1103d ago )

“Says the guy that cherry pick a specific set of PC VR Headsets to compare it to.”

I didn’t cherry pick. I listed it “as an example”. Please name a PCVR that is under 2x the price and equal in quality. Balls in your court.

“And remember kids. If you move goalposts you are not a person, you are a fanboy and your opinion is invalid by default”

Move goal posts? You brought up Quest 2. I said “comparable”. So you’re moving the goal pasts. I’m not.

I bought it at launch, I've enjoyed it so far. i probably should have waited but I had the
$$ and the opportunity to get one... so I did. no regrets and I hope more people get on board with it as it really is a huge improvement over the first.

Knushwood Butt1104d ago

Same here. As soon as the GT7 compatibility was announced, I was sold.
GT7 in VR is outstanding.
This week I've had two sessions of Humanity in VR and have been loving every second of it.
One thing about VR that continues to amaze me is the impact it has on my state. Every time VR kicks in I involuntary breath what I can only describe as a sigh of relief. Like with Humanity last night, I put the headset on and fire the game up in pancake mode by default. Then from the top menu I toggle VR mode on, and bam, breath a big sigh of relief. It's like instant escapism. That must be having a positive effect on me.

BriBri1103d ago

I used to feel the same way with the Oculus dk1 and Elite Dangerous beta.. weirdly it felt like 'home'

InUrFoxHole1104d ago

Just so I'm clear on this... you'd rather have less options or more?

ChasterMies1103d ago

Buying at launch isn’t the worst financial decision. The price will go down but if you look at price per year, you can do fine by getting more years out of a higher priced item. My issue is the cost of games. I’m a frugal gamer and I’m waiting on all these games to go on sale. Creed looks fun, for example, but it would look more fun if it cost $10. Currently enjoying Humanity which came with PS+ Extra.

S2Killinit1104d ago

I’ve been enjoying it a lot. There are a lot of games for it so far and more are coming. I’m happy with it, as long as you are a VR gamer, you wont be disappointed.

TheEnigma3131104d ago

The price and not launching at retailers didn't help. Once the price drops and more software comes, it'll pick up.

jznrpg1104d ago (Edited 1104d ago )

It’s the same price as the first one. Controllers just come with packed in with it and doesn’t require a seperate camera but those things together same price.

TheEnigma3131104d ago

True, but I didn't buy the first one until a price drop. I can't swing that much money right now.

mudakoshaka1104d ago

Started playing Red Matter 2 today. Now I really can see the next-gen VR graphics quality!

Babadook71103d ago

Me too. Amazing quality. And my kind kid gane also.

mudakoshaka1101d ago

Awesome game! I like the eerie feeling of being alone in space. I also appreciate that it is not a scary game. There are plenty of those already so one can play this one without the tension of a possible jump-scare looming around the corner.
