Redfall 2: It (Only) Just Works

just_looken1122d ago

Well some users had 16x the crashes so the first one is already living up to tod's standards.

"Imagine saving up $70 of your hard-earned money to buy a cool new video game from Steam and mistakenly buying Redfall instead."

If you were foolhardy enough to do this after knowing "years ago ... that Redfall was going to be a terrible game," you could get a refund and save yourself the time it takes to write shill articles trying to convince us Xbox still wins when it loses.

...

Before anyone tries to come with "you didn't read the article," yes I did. I don't care about his made up scenario in which the game gets played for over two hours that is even more ridiculous than the the reality that he could only stomach it for one hour. It seems like being on Game Pass is the only reason he wasted an hour of his life he says "I’m never going to get back."

SullysCigar1122d ago

That's GamePass in a nutshell. If you're going to play something on there, KNOW what you're going there to play. Otherwise, you'll just dip into shovelware after crap after broken mess and you've just wasted your gaming time being miserable.

It's the equivalent of having 100s of TV channels and bugger all to watch. You just sit there, channel flick like a zombie, don't ACTUALLY watch anything and then notice it's time for bed. Sigh.

Eidolon1121d ago (Edited 1121d ago )

Pretty much. I keep up with what's releasing on Game Pass, though, but going in blind.. I would still look up firstly the genre, then gameplay, reviews, score, etc. It pretty much is like your TV analogy, but once I finally find that game(or a few), I play it or it goes in my backlog like a million other games. Primarily I use GameFly for the latest games, so I don't spend $50-70 for new titles, probably since RDR2.

You’re grateful for something enabling low quality games… because you got a low quality game. There’s a lot of thought going into these posts now-a-days..

S2Killinit1122d ago

They are grateful that MS is trying to destroy console gaming from the inside.

lodossrage1121d ago

@thecodingart and @S2Killinit

Yeah, I read that the same way you guys did. If Redfall makes them "thankful" for gamepass, then they're literally giving the ok for mediocrity to be made within the xbox ecosystem.

Unfortunately, what people like this author don't realize is that they're helping MS usher in an age where low quality will be seen as fine with the excuse of "playing it for cheap".

Eidolon1121d ago

Yeah at this point I'm thinking the only good Day 1 games are the multiplatform ones with some exceptions.

BrainSyphoned1122d ago (Edited 1122d ago )

Imagine researching things you spend your money on. Or just imagine buying xbox games during a Steam Sale and getting to play them whenever you want with free online play.

It's a great demo service for indy games though....that I buy on other platforms.

Futureshark1122d ago

Redfall, good enough for Gamepass.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88516d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z516d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan633d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187633d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72732d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood732d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

mkis007732d ago

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
