Review: Redfall | Easy Allies

Arkane Studios have been making games for over two decades with hits like Dishonored, Prey, and Deathloop. Their newest game, Redfall is the first game that they’ve revealed since being acquired by Microsoft and it has players teaming up to battle vampires. It’s a new direction for the company, with added expectations now that they’re in Xbox’s first party stable.

Who expected more due to Microsoft acquisition? The opposite is true. Exactly what we got.

Phil will be tickled pink to see that this review is "double digits higher" than all those 40/100 scores we've seen these past few days. He has a timeline though, so these scores are meaningless. You'll see... You'll ALL see!

This game was in development since 2018. At some point they had to cut their losses and push it out so I really don't blame Ms for the core game. But I'll say this... ms name is on it regardless and I played 5 min. The controls and visuals are trash. The intro is trash... I deleted it.

I disagree you eventually should push out a crap game just to put it out.

This game should have been cancelled, not delayed.

Another year of polish wouldn't change the terrible design decisions they made. No amount of time would without going all the way back to the drawing board.

Microsoft have cancelled better looking games than this. But, got to feed that gamepass right?

While I agree with you I'm just stating from Ms point of view. I'm sure they wanted to recoup some $. Or atleast give it to another dev team (if they can) to flesh it out

30+ seconds to load textures off a SSD, internally reviewed very well

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z519d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan637d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187637d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72735d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood736d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

mkis007735d ago

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
